If you are in the US, I'm potentially interested in one Radio, but
understand if you are looking for someone to take them all.

Hmm, possible - I haven't really explored all the
possibilities/interactions/order of operations of what's going on.
Would've been a good test during school vacation 2 weeks ago - will try
to find some time to explore/test.

Re: [slim] Compatible WLAN cards for SB3, Boom, Reciever Transporter

2012-06-18 Thread TomS

I bought a used sb2, wired only, and opened it up to find a slot just
waiting for a wireless card. So I bought one and some antennas and it
worked, and continues to work, just fine.

All I can retrieve easily is this description of the card, from my ebay
purchase history:

TL-WN560G MiniPCI Mini PCI WiFi 802.11b/g adapter

I don't know that this helps SB3 owners, but perhaps this card, if
found, would work there as well.

I added a wireless card to an SB2 I bought used. I had to buy antennas
as well.

You have to use the card mentioned, support for this card is what is
written into the firm(?)ware of the sb3 - you can't just pick any old
card, including an n card.

I added it on the server (Squeezebox Server, running on a machine here
at home). That was straightforward as there is a choice to tune in a
URL you enter (Internet Radio-Tune in URL), and then I just made it a
favorite.

Similar process on mysqueezebox.com, although I don't use that so don't
have the exact location in the GUI.

Re: [slim] Connecting SB3 directly to old mac mini

2009-12-20 Thread TomS

I'm not a Mac person, but generally speaking without a DHCP server for
either device to get an IP address from, you should assign them both
static IPs in the same subnet.

That means use something like this:

IP address of mac: 192.168.1.100
subnet of mac: 255.255.255.0

IP address of SB: 192.168.1.101
subnet of SB: 255.255.255.0
gateway/etc for SB: 192.168.1.100 (if you really need to put this info
in)

Hope this helps

Re: [slim] Anyone using Deltacopy for backup's?

2009-08-25 Thread TomS

Again, slighty off topic, but I use deltacopy/rsync to sync from windows
to my linux server. And, i have an external USB disk on the linux
server, formatted NTFS.

One thing that I've hit is that the ntfs-3g filesystem on the linux
machine (which is what I am using to mount the external usb drive) loses
its original date/timestamp - all files moved there directly through
deltacopy/rsync get the current time/date. Of course if you don't care
about time/date stamps this doesn't matter.

A workaround is to rsync to an ext3 drive and then sudo rsync to the
usb drive (if I remember correctly).

[slim] Another successful implementation!

2009-07-28 Thread TomS

Well, tonight I helped my brother get Squeezecenter running on his Mac
Mini to serve his new Transporter and Duet. He had the Duet running
against SN but was ready to get the transporter and local library
going.

I wanted to post this because:

1. wanted to say that it went flawlessly for him/us (no hiccups at
all), and I know we read quite a few problem threads but people don't
often post success stories.

2. I used a free remote desktop s/w to show him some of the SC
options/config. It's called Teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com) and
is free for personal use. Mac/PC cross-platform compatible. Works great!
Just thought people might want to know about it (not affiliated with it
at all, just a happy user).

Thanks SD/Logitech for making me, and now my brother, happy listeners.

Simplistically (that's all I can provide), it is a mutant-RAID USB data
store. It's nice in that you can mix and match disk sizes and it will
take care of the redundancy for you and grow things as you swap/add
bigger drives.

It can be a NAS by adding their ethernet add-on.

FWIW, it uses SATA (SATA I or SATA II) drives internally, and if you use

Re: [slim] Greatest Hits problem?

Okay, removing the DISCNUMBER=1/1 comment from the flac files solved
that, except for one pesky cd which insists on going into the VA
category despite the fact that there is no compilation flag or
discnumber. I'll figure that out.

But this brings me to my next question- I wonder what other duplicate
names I have in my collection.

Does anyone have any unix shell script or even windows something that
will show me duplicate album names based on flac tags? I'd even take
duplicate folder/directory names as for the most part they are
equivalent.

Thanks,

[slim] Greatest Hits problem?

2008-03-24 Thread TomS

I am running:

SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 17793 - Debian - EN - iso-8859-1
Server IP address: 192.168.5.3
Perl Version: 5.8.8 i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 5.0.45-Debian_1ubuntu3.3

I have 7 artists who have albums titled Greatest Hits. For any
artist who (in my collection) only has a Greatest Hits album, they
are nowhere to be found in the Artists list (on SC or SS or the SB3).
If I go to Albums, only 2 of the seven are listed, and if I go to a
specific artist who has other albums besides Greatest Hits, I get the
wrong thumbnail cover.jpg in SC (although once I select it, it does show
the right one).

I have checked the tagging and all is correct there (see output from
metaflac at bottom).

Another weird thing - I have a duplicate (backup) disk on a windows box
and it works fine (maybe not a final sc 70 on windows, can't remember:
SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 17491 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252)

Permissions on linux are totally open for the music folder and I can
browse to it and play fine via Music Folder (but they don't get added
to the library ).

Here's sample output from metaflac --list, which shows an artist (and
album artist) of Tom Jones, but nowhere can I see Tom Jones in my
collection unless I browse via Music Folder. Advanced Search fails as
well.

[slim] Network Health Question

2008-03-13 Thread TomS

I just pulled some cat5e to feed my Squeezebox3 and SC PC, so I am now
totally wired.

When I run the network test at 5000 kbps on the SB3, I get the
following test results:

=
 85 :0 : 0%
 90 :0 : 0%
 95 : 15 : 6%
 100 :3 : 1%
=100 : 224 : 93%
max : 100.00
min : 94.238683
avg : 99.629842
=

If I run this same test from another pc on the (wired) network running
softsqueeze (*not* the SC pc), I get 100% all the time.

Note that if I run the 4000 or 3000 kbps on the SB I get 100% all the
time.

In the help it says A Squeezebox2/3 attached to a wired network should
be able to achieve at least 3000 kbps at 100% (which I do). What should
I expect for the 5000 kbps test from an SB on a wired 100mbit network?

Or asked another way, should I be concerned about the results above
with respect to my wired network or is it the SB hardware that can't
keep up?

Thanks,

Tom

[slim] network test from SC?

2008-03-10 Thread TomS

I think I'm blind and perhaps my memory is gone but...

I was pretty sure at SlimServer 6.5x there was a choice to run a
network test on a player from the web UI.

At Squeezecenter 7.0, I cannot find a place to initiate a network test
from the browser interface.

Yes, I can find it on the player but I was thinking it was somewhere in
the UI of SC.

Is it there somewhere?
