That does sound enticingly simple...

Re: [slim] LMS 8 on ReadyNAS

2021-05-13 Thread YHS1979

Thanks for the replies.

It looks like I'm running Perl Version: 5.20.2 -
arm-linux-gnueabi-thread-multi-64int

I guess the Raspberry Pi option could be more straightforward - and has
certainly been on my radar for a while but I think I'd like to try to
stick with the ReadyNAS if possible - it's served me well thus far I've
never even touched a Pi before... (As an aside, if I went down this
route, would it sort of piggyback on the existing NAS or would I have to
copy my music over to something else?)

[slim] LMS 8 on ReadyNAS

2021-05-13 Thread YHS1979

Please help a very confused person out.

I've been using Squeezeboxes for years and currently have what seems to
be a rock-solid system running two Touches, two Receivers, two Booms and
two Radios based on a ReadyNAS 102 running LMS 7.9.0.

My daughter has asked to see if we can incorporate Spotify hence me
revisting these forums today. Having got lost in the discussions for a
while and trying to bring myself a little more up to date, I like the
sound of LMS 8 (and am eternally grateful to the folks who are keeping
LMS alive) but I've literally no idea if this is something I can use on
my system.

I can't seem to find an idiot's guide - would anyone be able to tell me
if v8 is an option for my system and if so, which of the downloads I
should be looking at here:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=8.2 ?

Many thanks for any advice, links or other pointers.

I did think about this but it would be another box to hide and another
AC outlet used up...

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 cannot find LMS

2016-11-07 Thread YHS1979

Ah, I knew it was too good to be true - after the phone seeming to
consistently connect to the main router all last night, today I find
that I'm back to square one.

I'm pretty much convinced that this is some oddness within the Sky
router now and have resigned myself to not getting it sorted until I
replace it with something else.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 cannot find LMS

2016-11-06 Thread YHS1979

Finally got this sorted out :D

Searching for the main router by model number led me to a discussion on
the Sky help forum started by someone whose wireless devices couldn't
see other connected devices.

Disabling "Enable IPv6 on Lan side" within the router worked for him and
seems to have done the same for me.

I'm going to see what the next couple of days bring but it seems to have
solved the problem without causing any new ones as of this evening...

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 cannot find LMS

2016-11-05 Thread YHS1979

I think I've probably reached the limits of my understanding over the
last six months of battling with this...

The second router is definitely not connected via its WAN port and the
DHCP has always been disabled on it.

But if the problem was with how the second router was set up, wouldn't
the connection problems arise when devices tried to connect via it -
rather than through the main router?

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 cannot find LMS

2016-11-05 Thread YHS1979

Restarting the PC righted things at that end - to be fair this is
something that seems to happen every once in a while regardless of what
else has been happening.

The SB2 seems to be behaving itself connected to the main router but the
phone still seems to only allow Orange Squeeze and Squeezeplayer to see
LMS when it is connected through the repeater. I suspect that the brief
period of it appearing to work last night was caused by the phone
connecting to the repeater despite being closer to the main router while
the latter was rebooting. As of this morning, if I'm closer to the main
router Orange Squeeze tells me that there is "no route to host".

I'm starting to revert to my original hunch that this is some strange
incompatibility between my Samsung phone and the router...

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 cannot find LMS

2016-11-04 Thread YHS1979

I knew it was too good to be true...

The SB2 seems to be working fine, Orange Squeeze on the phone seems to
be OK but now my laptop no longer lists any of the Squeezeboxes on the
"network" page and I cannot access LMS via the browser even if I type
"192.168.0.2:9000" directly into the address bar.

I need to revisit this in the morning, I think.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 cannot find LMS

2016-11-04 Thread YHS1979

Many thanks for the further reply - and for your time in wading through
that horribly formatted PC Advisor website.

I've been checking the set up again and I think I've cracked it: I think
the problem was that I'd set the IP address of the repeater *within* the
range that the main router was allocating. I won't pretend to know why
this would have caused the problems it did but in correcting it, both my
phone and Squeezebox 2 seem to be happily connecting to LMS.

This has been tormenting me since moving into this house almost 6 months
ago so I'm thrilled to finally have a solution :D

Many thanks, once again, for your time and advice.

I'm using a second router, set up as per the guide here:

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/network-wifi/how-set-up-router-as-repeater-summary-3633135/

The second router seems to work completely perfectly and the "main" one
seems to work perfectly for everything apart from certain (but not all)
devices' ability to see the LMS.

I'd like to think that there is something simple in terms of the
router/repeater set-up to account for this but I'm at a loss as to how
to track it down.

[slim] Squeezebox 2 cannot find LMS

2016-11-04 Thread YHS1979

I've just added a Squeezebox 2 to my Boom, Radio x2, Duet x2, Touch x2
set up and have found that although it will happily connect to either of
my routers, it can only see LMS when connected to the "extender" router
(same SSID, connected to main router by ethernet cable, fixed IP).

Bizarrely (to my mind) LMS itself is also hard wired to the main router
in that it is running on a ReadyNAS connect via Ethernet.

This problem exactly replicates the issue I also have with my Android
phone/Orange Squeeze detailed here:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?105736-Android-phone-intermittently-not-finding-LMS=

I just don't get it - why can't these devices see LMS when they are
directly connected to the router that LMS itself is physically connected
to and yet all is fine when they connect via the repeater/extender
router?

I'm intending to use the Squeezebox 2 in a location that is essentially
halfway between the main router and the repeater so any help in trying
to get to the bottom of htis would be very much appreciated.
