Re: [slim] What is missing from your Squeezebox experience ?
"What is missing from your Squeezebox experience ?" The ability to pop to the shops and buy one. There's none to be seen in the high street any more here in the UK, unlike Sonos, AirPlay, Philips Stremium, Naim etc. These are everywhere from department stores to hifi shops. It's really quite sad to see the demise of the once market leader in audio streaming. amrace's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94987 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I think you're right and the virtually zero presence of Squeezebox on the UK high street doesn't do much for the confidence of potential purchasers. There are 53 wireless music players on the website of the John Lewis department store, there are Sonos, Airplay, Bluetooth players and one or two others between £84.99 and £1,199 but none are Squeezebox. I realise that a Bluetooth player isn't in the same league as a Squeezebox but it's all some people require to play music from their ithing. -- amrace amrace's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91090 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Logitech Airplay Speaker
It appears that many of us think that the future of Squeezebox is not too bright so Ive been looking at what else is on the market for when the time comes to update my ageing kit or to build on what I have now. Sonos and Apple Airplay are similar alternatives but the Apple option has been described by some as non-HiFi. My current system is something like this: Apple lossless files - iTunes Squeeze server Lossless streaming over Wifi Squeezebox Classic digital coax out to DAC amp and speakers - iPad control using iPeng. An Airplay version would be something like this: Apple lossless files - iTunes Airplay Lossless streaming over Wifi Airport Express optical out to DAC, amplifier and speakers iPad control using Apple Remote. Is the Squeezebox method more HiFi than the Apple? I think Ill have my Squeezebox system for some time to come though as it works really well for me. After the initial set up (which can be a nightmare) its quite a user friendly system, especially when used in conjunction with the iPeng iPad app. Even adding new music is easy, rip a CD into iTunes and in a few minutes it appears in on my Squeezeboxes, no tagging, scanning or whatever is required, its easy. I'd like an extra zone on my system and I'm quite tempted to give the Airplay system a try. I appreciate i can't sync it with my squeezeboxes but I dont really need that option where its going. Re: [slim] Logitech Airplay Speaker
I found a download of the user manual here. http://www.scribd.com/doc/70131052/Logitech-Air-Speaker It appears to have wifi and an ethernet connection but there's no mention of LMS. It looks like it's purely for Airplay streaming. Do you think Logitech will keep both Squeezebox and Aiplay wifi streaming systems in its future product lineup? I auditioned Accoustimass amongst others while looking for a compact 5.1 system and in my opinion they didnt sound a patch on the Castles especially when listening to music :) -- amrace amrace's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25883 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Boombox to plug SB into?
How about a Bose Wave, you could buy the "cheaper" radio only version as you won't require a CD if you're using it with a SB. It has an auxillary input and the new model has a flat top which looks ideal for sitting the SB on. I've got the old style CD version which sounds great for a second system. http://www.bose.co.uk/home_audio/wave_systems/wr_II/ Boston do something similar if you're not into Bose, both are mains powered though. -- amrace amrace's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25883 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: Hmmm....2nd thoughts on buying SB3
I have a SB3 hard wired to a PC via a 3COM Office Connect modem router. Considering I had never installed a router or Squeezebox before I found it all reasonably easy to install and configure to synchronise with iTunes. I use iTunes to rip to Apple lossless as the software is very user friendly and I had previously used it with my iPod. I think the sound quality is excellent, my SB3 is connected via digital coax to a Yamaha AV amp, a Musical Fidelity amp and Castle Compact speakers/sub-woofer. Since purchasing it six months ago the ease of use and sound quality have got me to listen to more of my 300-ish CD collection than I have for years, and Ive bought more new CDs than I have done for a long time. I also use the SB3 to listen to internet radio and the BBC Listen Again programmes in good sound quality from the comfort of my lounge. Go for it. PS. The SB3 has a high WAF in our household -- amrace amrace's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25733 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Hi, I use AlienBBC quite regulary, it's an excellent application (thanks to all involved). I've just a couple of questions regarding the display. 1. When listening to a station my SB3 doesn't display any track information, all I get is the station name or the "Listen Again" programme name, is this normal. 2. The spectrum analyser freezes every second or so, does anyone else experience this. [slim] Internet Radio Breaking Up/Dropping Out
Internet Radio Breaking Up/dropping out Hi, I have an intermittent audio dropout problem when listening to internet radio on my SB3, this occurs especially during evening times, the audio drops in and out at a frequency of about once every second making it impossible to listen to. I can listen to internet radio during the day without a problem. Alien BBC on the other hand works ok more or less at any time. I realise this is probably an internet/ISP problem as evening time internet radio is also erratic on my PC but I wondered if anyone else has experienced this. I live in the UK, have a Tiscali 1Mb connection and use a 3Com router wired to the SB. Would upgrading my service to 2Mb + cure the problem? PS Ive had my SB3 a few months now and think its a fantastic piece of kit.
