I'm a very deliberate purchaser of music, and looking at the album stats that amounts to 120 new albums a year. most are CDs. Last.fm tells me that I listen to an average 20 songs a day. Though at a peak last year, I listened to 65 Scott Walker tracks in a day. Like others, I am not sure Artists is measured the same way. It doesn't seem likely it would jump from 704 to 6,292 when I a primarily purchase albums rather than individual tracks. 2013 Total Tracks: 15,994 Total Albums: 1,513 Total Artists: 704 Total Genres: 27 2020 Total Tracks: 25,739 Total Albums: 2,359 Total Artists: 6,292 Total Genres: 51 Location 1: ReadyNAS Ultra 2 4TB > RPi3 > piCorePlayer > LMS 7.9.2 > Squeezebox Touch >NAD 326BEE > BeoLab 4000 Location 2: Squeezebox Touch, Audio Engine A2+ Controller: Asus Tablet > Orange Squeeze Music: Ripping (FLAC) dbpoweramp, Tagging: mp3tag bomboloni's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=57289 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111480 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

+1 Since I work from home, I would estimate I use my Squeeze box system 10 hours a day, so I am extremely grateful to everyone involved in keeping it alive and making improvements. The irony is that I would have paid Logitech a great deal more for this system if it had the functionality back then as it does today. Keep up the great work! Last year they sold over $40MM in CD's, and this probably means someone has figured out they can get even more $/sq ft selling different products. I do think that the CD will be relegated to the big online shops or specialty stores in cities. I imagine with Amazon in the market, the margins have shrunk. According to the RIAA, physical sales have been shrinking, but CD's along with vinyl still represent 16% of all music sales, or $431MM last year. Streaming is 62% of all music sales. The best thing about CDs is that they offer the biggest bang for the buck. They are priced low, and you can rip into any type of file you want. Although for me they are simply a back-up disc after I have ripped them. Re: [slim] Do people still buy digital music? New business idea; would love feedback
This reminds me, in some aspects anyway, of Noise Trade (www.noisetrade.com). You sign up for a weekly email and you get access to full albums or in some cases, compilations of artists. I believe when I signed up I told them what genres I was interested in. It is a pay-what-you-want model. I find it good for discovery since the emails do a thorough job of categorizing the music by stating - For fans of: follwed by a list of band names or record label names. It's only mp3 at this point but I've discovered a few bands through them. I think that is the case. I use Orange Squeeze Preview on both my phone (Galaxy Nexus) and my 7 tablet (Nexus 7). On the tablet I get a 3x3 grid of albums when I choose My Music/Albums. However on the phone it is single column with thumbnails of albums on the left and the album title and artist to the right. Re: [slim] Squeezebox is (not) dead... One year later.
A year ago when I first read that Logitech had pulled the plug I was running a single Squeezebox Duet on a NetGear ReadyNAS Duo with 2TB of storage in my living room. The discontinuation of the line caused me to upgrade to a Squeezebox Touch and I upgraded my NAS to a NetGear Ultra 2 with 4TB of storage. I now have a more powerful system and I doubled the amount of storage. I've since installed a second zone in the bedroom with the Duet and I bought a second Touch on sale a week after the product was cancelled, and I'm holding onto that as a backup. So a year later, I have a faster, more robust system with double the storage. I've upgraded to 7.8 and with the Smartmix and Music Artist Information plugins the system is significantly improved over what was available when Logitech pulled the plug. Re: [slim] ANN: Orange Squeeze 1.3.0 released!
Great to see a new update is coming to Orange Squeeze. The large icons are excellent, and moving between screens is very snappy. I found a few issues, but I assume these are probably things that are further down the list that you already know about. I am using this on my 2013 Nexus 7. 1. If I long press a song and choose show artwork I only get a thumbnail rather than a full screen image. 2. Using the Music and Artist Information plugin, when I chose either Album Information or Artist Information it simply gives me a playlist of the the same song three times, and if I click on one of the songs, that produces an even longer playlist of the same song multiple times. 3. There is also one bug in version 1.3.7 I hope can be fixed in the new version. When accessing the Album or Artist Information using the Music and Artist plugin, there is a /n/n where there should be a line break. Keep up the great work. Re: [slim] Where are your CDs?
I save the back insert only when it is the only place that the list of songs appears. It can be extremely frustrating to buy a CD only to open up the booklet and there's no information about what is on the CD. bomboloni's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=57289 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80369 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Where are your CDs?
If I had a basement or attic, I'd store my CDs in their jewel cases on open shelving, however I live in Manhattan. With real estate at a premium, I need my 2000 CDs to take up as little space as possible in the same cabinet as the stereo. I buy the majority of my music on CDs and I do this for two main reasons; I want to rip them to FLAC, and I want to keep the disc as a backup along with the digital backup. I also like having easy access to the liner notes. The jewel cases get thrown out and I put the CDs in plastic sleeves along with the booklet. When I took on the project about three years ago, MUJI sold these great 14 storage boxes that would hold up to 400 CDs in sleeves. Unfortunately they have stopped making them, and I have not found anything that works as well. I tried the Snap-n-store boxes but I found that they are a tad too narrow. 14396 +---+ |Filename: IMG_20130131_100804_0.jpg| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=14396| +---+ bomboloni's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=57289 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80369 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

vicvondoom wrote: thanks for the reply, the one I mainly use is the one that follows this(ipeng) more radios local london your choice of station... please tell that'll stay..?! Yes Jim, that is exactly the functionality that MySB provides and that functionality you will lose. Logitech has stated that MySB is not going away anytime soon, but they have not provided timeframes on when/if they will pull the plug. As a practice you should choose add to favorites on all of the stations that you use. If MySB is down you can go to Favorites and all of your stations will be there. The only caveat is that if the station changes the address to access the station, then you are out of luck. Unless someone know of a method to add an address without the aid of MySB.com. Re: [slim] How many of you have spare squeezeboxes?
After reading all the posts here I realize I am severely deficient in squeezeboxes. The first and only Squeezebox I purchased is a Duet which I've had for more than three years. I'm confident someone will eventually come in address the gap in products that Logitech is leaving behind, however I have too much time invested in getting this system to work perfectly to abandon it. I just purchased a Touch from Amazon so I have at least one device for backup. bomboloni's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=57289 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96198 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
