Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store

2009-02-18 Thread govardha

Hello,

I just purchased and installed my copy of iPeng. I am pretty happy
with it, save for some minor sluggishness when it starts up. Further,
I have noticed a few times it does not identify the SB3 which is
playing some content.

I have one question, I use the iTunesupdate plugin to rate the songs.
I do this by hitting a # on the remote and the SB3 shows the rating.
Is there some way the plugins usage can be incorporated?

There is a distinct possibility this may just not happen, but I thought
I would ask.

Thanks,
G

[slim] Difference between the SB3 Boom ?

2009-02-13 Thread govardha

Hello,

My squeezecenter runs on my mac and I put it to sleep after a certain
amount of idle time.

When the machine goes idle, the Boom complains and a few minutes later
just switches to the clock(I have SuperDateandTime as my plugin). On
the other hand my SB3 just goes blank.

What do I have to do get my SB3 to perform the same way as my boom?

Thanks,
G

Re: [slim] Issues with parsing iTunes xml file scanning

2008-01-04 Thread govardha

Hello,

I think I found a fix for the problem.

I followed the instructions found on the Apple support site below to
rebuild my library.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313

Once I did that, and further rescanned my iTunes library from scratch
and everything seemed to work properly.

Try it out.,

[slim] Issues with parsing iTunes xml file scanning

2008-01-01 Thread govardha

Hello,

I am running the latest 6.5 version of the Slimserver software. I am
running Mac OS X 10.5.1.

I run the following plugins in my system.
- SuperDateTime
- MyPicks
- iTunesupdate

Lately I am having significant issues with parsing the iTunes xml file
and hence all my playlists in iTunes. I have done numerous clean
rescans, and CLI wipe out db's and rescans, but in some static
playslists which contains for instance 25 songs, it just scans 12
songs.

I am at a total loss trying to figure what is going on? I tried using
the latest 7.0 software and it was such a pain in the ass and even more
buggy than this current version. Does anybody have any idea what I can
do to debug this problem anymore?

Best,
G

Re: [slim] Unable to scan library

2007-10-09 Thread govardha

Hello Jason,

You will need to find where server.exe is located in Windows and
further go into that directory in the dos prompt to execute the
command.

Cut and paste the string exactly as given below

server.exe --itunes --d_itunes

There is a space right after .exe and after --itunes.

Ever since I did the update manually, the playlists seems to be updated
just fine automatically. All my playlists are rescanned every morning
at 630.

I use a fantastic plugin called iTunesupdate which keeps track of
rating changes and increments the listened/skipped count. I have a few
smart playlists which are hence updated.

Re: [slim] Unable to scan library

2007-10-08 Thread govardha

Mr.Leadley,

I don't have Slimserver installed on a Windows box, but from what I
have read in the forum, there is a server.exe executable which is
identical to the server.pl(perl script in Mac OS X).

Go to C:\Program Files\Slimserver* and look for a server.exe

Further in the dos prompt type in the following command.

server.exe --itunes --d_itunes

When I do this in Mac OS X, I get a lot of debug info. If you would
rather not see the debug info, skip the --d_itunes flag. Please note,
the only reason why I had to go through this procedure was because I
had issues with SlimServer not picking up some changes using the web
front end. You ought to try that first, before you attempt this
approach.

Let me know how it works. The above command worked like a charm and my
Slimserver has been functioning as expected.

[slim] How to rescan just itunes playlists using scanner.pl

2007-10-07 Thread govardha

Hello,

I am aware of the myriad options in the scanner.pl script. How do I
just run the script in the CLI to rescan just any new iTunes playlists?
The command below seems to scan the whole library once again, which is
not what I want.

scanner.pl --itunes

Thanks,

[slim] Unable to scan library

2007-10-06 Thread govardha

Hello,

I have an iTunes library of about 6000 songs. I added some songs to
the library this AM, and tried to do a force rescan to pick up the new
songs. But to no avail.

I have a smart playlist with newly added songs and I have been able to
access it just fine in the past.

I tried rescanning just the playlists, but to no avail, I finally tried
to rescan the entire library again, but once again I am unable to see
the updated playlist. The playlist in question has some entries, but
not the new ones.

I am running iTunes 7.4.1 on a Mac.

Any thoughts?

Re: [slim] Unable to scan library

2007-10-06 Thread govardha

Just to keep everybody updated. I tried numerous rescans through the
web interface but to no avail.

Finally, I ran the following command in the command line.

~/Library/PreferencePanes/SlimServer.prefPane/Contents/server/server.pl
--itunes --d_itunes.

This command parsed through all the songs my iTunes instance was
managing, but it also did one other thing. All my playlists were
updated successfully. Everything seems to work just fine.

I am not sure why the web interface does not work, but the command line
does.

[slim] Re: Adding di.fm radio stations into playlists etc..

2006-09-28 Thread govardha

Radish Sidhue,

Thanks for your response. I have managed to get things working, but
there is 1 glitch that I found out.

I am a premium subscriber of DI.fm, I tried entering an url in the
following format.

http://www.di.fm/listen/trance/192k.pls?user=useridamp;pass=passwd

When I save it and try to play it, things go bersek and my SlimServer
instance just freezes up. I have to do a Stop Server/Start Server
routine to wake up the server again. Any thoughts on how I can get
around this problem? I do have another choice which does work, but I
am reluctant to use. When I download the listen.pls file from di.fm's
web site and look at the contents of the file they have an entry like
this.

http://userid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:8000

When I save this entry, things work fine, but it seems like every so
often these specific ip's sound crappy, so I would prefer using a
generic url as given initially.

Thanks for providing a prompt alternative right away!

[slim] Re: itunes alternatives

2006-03-17 Thread govardha

I used to use J.River Media Center and have found it pretty usable. It
does support iPod and all the music formats you were asking about. It
is pretty fast and the ability to customize the front end and song
management is amazing. I do use iTunes as I use a Mac now, although it
is a decent product, at times it can be slow as hell.

Unfortunately the product tends to be on the expensive side, I think
they include a 30 day trial, give it a whirl.

I think the problem is definitely iTunesupdate. I have disabled

My SB3 has been working like a champ for the last 3 hours without
skipping a beat(no pun intended ;-).

I guess it is time to visit the plugins forum and start my work there.

[slim] Performance Issue SB 3 Mac OS X(iMac G4)

2006-03-11 Thread govardha

Hello,

I am just in the process of using my new SB 3 in conjunction with my
iMac G4(10.4.4, 768 meg physical memory).

I have installed the AlienBBC iTunesupdate plugin, but I am having a
tough time with performance in this rig. Once I start playing a
particular playlist(iTunes) in the SB3, things sound great, but my mac
is brought to its knees. Using the activity monitor I find that perl
uses about 70% of cpu and further, the remote is unusable. I am only
about to play one or at the most 2 songs before the music playback just
starts stuttering.

This happens after playing barely 1 or 2 songs in the playlist.
Stopping playback doesn't help either. The only cure seems to be to
stopping starting the Slimserver.

I am running Slimserver 6.2.1, with the plugins listed above.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Update to my previous post.

I uninstalled the iTunesupdate plugin and that seems to make the
difference. perl is not using 70% of the cpu and things seem to be
fine. I will try running newer versions of Slimserver and see whether
anything else works.

Thanks,

[slim] Re: Performance Issue SB 3 Mac OS X(iMac G4)

2006-03-11 Thread govardha

Update :

I think this post probably ought to go in the forums on plugins.

I moved from SServer 6.2.1 to 6.5.b1, and also update iTunesupdate to
the appropriate version. Unfortunately the performance issue still
remains. I have disabled direct update, and I will try out tomorrow
once again and see whether that makes any difference.

Is there any other way to update the iTunes library information on the
songs played/count etc? I think this plugin is fabulous but
unfortunately it renders my system practically unusable.

Please note, I may also be to blame here. The system is an aging
machine(iMac G4 1 ghz, 768 megs of memory). Is that a possible reason
too? My library is about 5800~ songs.

Thanks for any feedback.
