[slim] SB hardware yet with embedded SB Server?

2010-05-12 Thread huytere

I heard some rumors that a future product will have SB Server embedded.
Is this every going to be true? I hate leaving a PC on all the time so
I can control my Receiver via Crestron/iPhone/etc

When is it coming?!

If I am using the SPDIF on the SB Receiver is it pure Digital? or does
it do D/A conversions internally?

Just curious, I doubt anybody could hear any difference either way.

I think the market will in 6 months be
flooded with atom bases nettops that do a great job of running sbs at
the 100 dollar price point.

Re: [slim] Live Music Archive

2010-01-05 Thread huytere

Can we use the RSS feed? The Rss Feed can be found here:

http://www-tracey.archive.org/services/collection-rss.php?collection=GratefulDead

Maybe I could write a program that would download the RSS nightly to
our local SBS, and then we could add this local RSS feed. That way it
will load quickly and be very responsive GUI.

I think if sling trys to load
http://www-tracey.archive.org/services/collection-rss.php?collection=GratefulDead
it will be too slow and unresponsive.

I am good at programming, but new to SB... so need some guidance. Could
I build a Dead app? It could expose several browse methods:

Year
Charlie Miller
Rating
Quality (soundboard vs mic vs fm)
Search

Ideas?

Would it be better to convert the RSS data to OPML data? I think it
would be nicer to have a proper App, because of the sheer amount of dead
recordings is staggerleeing.

Re: [slim] EPG whats on for all streaming stations

According to Will (the Radiotuna administrator) he said This is on the
road-map and development is currently underway.

So someday we will have good metadata for all the online radio
stations!

Please help the cause by going to vote for this feature request here:

Re: [slim] Sumoh TinyAmp S30

2009-12-31 Thread huytere

I have been looking for an amplifier similar to this for a long time, so
I could add zones to my whole-house digital music system.

I am having trouble locating an amplifier with the following
characteristics:

100 watts output per channel
single digital input
2 speaker output
volume control
controllable via serial rs232 or ethernet IP.
price near $300

Is anybody aware of such an amp? In all my main zones I have bought
Marantz SR6001 because the main zones are all 5.1 (good for watching
movies). It is just the other zones like hallways, garage, etc where I
need an amp like this. If anybody could help, please advise. Thanks!

Re: [slim] EPG whats on for all streaming stations

2009-12-24 Thread huytere

That is great. I created some bookmarks on the radiotuna website, but it
was not showing me the currently playing song... is it working for you?
I am not sure they actually poll up to the minute for their metatdata,
it looks like they are storing data as people tune in or something like
that. Not sure yet though.

I asked them to do it also. THey could provide the metadata for
bookmarks as an RSS feed, that will make it easy for plugin developers
to integrate it.

Please vote for the idea here:

Re: [slim] Best of Luck - moving on...

2009-12-23 Thread huytere

Many of you will say this is overkill, but if you really want to
troubleshoot things, here are the steps to identify the problem.

If you are experiencing issues, here are some steps to see if the Duet
problem is purely wifi/environment related:

Make sure your SB receiver is plugged into a wired ethernet connection
directly on the router switch port! No homeplug, no wifi, a real old
fashioned ethernet wired connection. Use a very long ethernet cable if
you need it!

Install SB Server on a dedicated machine that is not doing any tasks
except serving SB. Password protect it so nobody in the family can use
it. Make sure you install SB Server on a clean OS install, not an old pc
with ten million shareware apps that are hogging resources. The machine
should have good specs, at least 2 gb ram, 1.0ghz cpu.

Unplug all wireless devices in your house including phones, wireless
doorbells, ham radios, etc. Anything that uses a radio should be shut
off. Disable all laptops that are using wifi.

Make sure nobody on your home network is using the network/internet,
especially video sharing, ip cameras, etc, streaming audio/video, VOIP,
Vonage etc.

Make sure your wifi access point is not located near any metal objects,
especially anything with electronic components. For testing purposes,
put it right in the middle of your testing room.

Make sure your wifi access point is high quality device, not a 20
dollar special. Think of all the engineering that goes into
manufacturing a wifi access point, there is lots of quality issues if
you have a poor device. Make sure it has good clean power from a UPS.

At this point, you have a pristine environment to test the duet
handheld controller. Now it is the ONLY device on the wifi network and
it is just sending *very small* data commands to the receiver (ie Play,
Next, Up, Down, etc). This is known as a dedicated wireless control
network because the wireless network is dedicated to only sending very
lightweight commands, it is NOT competing with a million other bandwidth
robbing things. Make sure your wifi access point is very close to the
duet handheld controller, this will ensure that the signal is very
strong. If you have a weak signal the battery has to work overtime on
the controller and it will drain faster. The closer / stronger your
signal is to the wifi access point the better control signals you will
be sending.

Ok, lets assume everything works great for a few days, you have no
audio drop outs, the controller is very responsive, everything works
perfectly. Now you can start to do things like turn on your house phone.
Then test it for a few more days and slowly add more things to the
environment till you find the devices/human behaviours that are causing
the performance problems.

Another thing you could do is create a control only wifi network that
is dedicated 100% to the duet handheld controller. No other devices
(laptops, etc) are allowed to use this wifi network. That way its
resources are dedicated 100% to the controller traffic.

Re: [slim] SqueezePlay and Controller

2009-12-23 Thread huytere

my understanding from research and testing is that you *may* have
buffering problems if you try to use a software player.
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezePlay

I have been using squeezeplay for a few days now while I have been
waiting for my receiver to arrive. By the way, you can buy the receiver
as a standalone device, you do not need to buy the remote control. I
have been having often buffering/timing issues where things sound slow
or fast and it is hit or miss.

Is this happening cause it is software/soundcard related problems? Is
anybody able to say their softplayer works 100%? What is a recommended
soundcard with spdif output??

Re: [slim] SqueezePlay and Controller

2009-12-23 Thread huytere

Thanks for the info, things change so often in this scene it is great to
get such fast responses. Right now I have ordered my SB Receiver from
logitech.com and I think it may be out of stock because it has been a
few days waiting and I paid extra for next day delivery. So, in the
meantime I am using SqueezePlay beta. I have set up my SB Server, and
configured it to run on Windows Server 2008 as a Windows Service. I have
rebooted several times and it is working great. Now, I would like to set
the SqueezePlay.exe player to start automatically at system startup, so
if the server gets rebooted it will start up automatically and start
sending audio out the soundcard. Any ideas how to do this?

My thinking is that i will find the Powertoy that allows user to login
by default at system startup. Then I will write a batch file to wait 2
minutes so the player will start up after 2 minutes. I guess I am
getting bored.. lol

Launched recently from a kitchen in Brighton, they collect Now

 searchable.

You can search by artist and it will list stations that are currently
 playing (and recently played) tracks.
You can also tune in. They check local database for cover art and links
 to buy.

I've dropped them a note to see if they might be interested in making
 info officially available.

Yeah, that is exactly what I was thinking. Logitech should do this, it
would be such a great feature.

Hi guys, I added support for Favorites. Has anybody else made any

Can anybody post their SMW and Vtpro application? I need to start
testing it with a vtpro app. Right now I am just testing using Crestron
toolbox debugger and it works good now with favorites...

Re: [slim] EPG whats on for all streaming stations

2009-12-21 Thread huytere

I think you mean RDS.

Thanks, I was not really expecting to get much. I was hoping that since
mysqueezebox.com is in the cloud it could pulse all the common
stations like shoutcast, radioIO, internet radio, etc. And then if the
users personalized Pandora/slacker stations could be kept alive in the
cloud so that the metadata for the currently playing song would be
stored in the cloud. That way, we could have whats playing now
metadata for ALL our favorite stations without having to press so many
buttons!

As a 3rd party software developer, will SB support this? For which
services/apps Just XM/Sirius??

[slim] EPG whats on for all streaming stations

2009-12-20 Thread huytere

1) Does SB have now playing metadata support for all the apps and
internet stations? I am looking for the EPG data similar to how tv
companies store whats on - now playing in their EPG.

Assuming I have these favorite preset radio stations, which of these
support cover art, now playing EPG

2 Pandora stations
3 Shoutcast stations
5 Sirius stations
1 Xm station
1 Slacker station
2 Last.FM stations
5 Live Music Archive concerts (from archive.org)
7 RadioIO stations

My goal is to build a very simple UI. The UI will simply show all the
consolidated favorite internet stations and the now playing EPG info.
When he selects the station he wants to listen to, the cover art will be
available. Since many of these stations do not have proper cover art,
the SB should use the Amazon app to display cover art based on the
keyword of the artist (from EPG metadata).

Hope this makes sense... I realize this may be asking for a lot more
that what it was intended so please bear with me.
