Re: [slim] Multi-room listening
Has anyone given thought to a very simple solution. Ignoring going down the road of a specialist mutiroom supplier, (which in truth would be the sensible though expensive solution), how about wall mounting an SB Boom box in each room. Complete with amplifcation, speakers and the ability to sync (a la party mode you require). 3 x off at circa £200.done. You could even connect an sb3 in a favorite listening room to an existing hi fi for serious listening, and the boom boxes in the other rooms again with the facility to sync. Dont forget the fantastic I Peng on I-pod / touch which would let you control your system. I would like to use a single Duet/SB3. he maximum distance to the speakers will be 75ft so I guess I'll need ome good speaker wire. I'm not that familiar with these do it all receivers but I'm guessing hat each zones volume can be controller separately without the need of special volume control? Re: [slim] Game On: Sonos has an iPhone app
Pippin this may sound like a daft question, but can you confirm. The art work showing on the album page, is this drawn from I Tunes? I have not been able to tie my artwork to my albums in SC. Obviously though they show up on the I Touch when accessing albums transferred from I Tunes. Re: [slim] Suitability of Network Powerline Adapters?
I changed my PC to a new Apple last year and foundthat I experienced the same peoblem you mention. If I monitored the wireless signal, it stayed above 75% all the time, yet I still experienced hanging or drop out. The problem was exasperated if running more than 1 squeezebox at a time even though 1 is connected via ethernet! (strange). I decided to go down the Homeplug route to try to eliminate this. I bought 2 x 85mb from Maplins @ £39.99 each and can report that since then no drop out whatsoever. Its been great. I would also like to mention I upgraded to SC7 with no problems and am happily using IPeng on my I Pod touch which is amazing. I have had my duet now for a 12 days and most of the time it does work fine. However, at other times it is very difficult to get the SB to connect properly to my networked PC, and at other times (rarer) I get drop out of signal for several seconds. While playing, the music stops and the starts again say 10 seconds later. I'm not sure whether it is resuming where it left off or restarting the track. It has been suggested that my problems are due to weakness of wireless signal at the SB. I have been monitoring this (only when connected obviously!) and find that it can very between 2% and 49% without any apparent changes introduced by myself. This can occur over periods of minutes. I have tried channels 1, 6 and 11 and they all seem to be similarly variable. Someone has suggested I try a couple of boxes which can be plugged into a local mains socket and then connected with an ethernet cable to the router at one end and the SB at the other. Can anyone tell me whether this should work adequately for music streaming and also whether it does so in practice? What makes and models might be recommended? My router is a Linksys WRT54GL and my PC runs XP with a SiS 900-based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter card. My music is coming from iTunes. Any ideas welcomed. -- copernical copernical's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16717 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46241 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss AOL's new homepage has launched. Re: [slim] SB3 Networking Issues: Please participate
I have not had any issues with the former, but at the end of the year I bought a new I mac and since using this as my music source, I am experiencing sound drop out. The wireless signal remains constant but the sound stops either for 2 seconds or 5 seconds (embarrassing when singing at the top of your voice). I would add that I am running a second SB which is connected via ethernet and experience no drop out whatsoever which suggests a wireless issue. When the sound drops out; the song restarts from the point where it stopped which suggests a streaming problem? My next step was to try a set of the Mains networking kits to allow an ethernet connection, but I would appreciate any feedback on this. [slim] Problems After Recent Upgrade
I recently upgraded to 6.5.1, and now find I can not search or browse any of my music. Slimserver finds my library ok and scans it, but when it comes to playing music I can no longer select it like before. For instance, if I go to browse music and press right arrow, I get the Artist option. If I right arrow again it still goes to Artist. The same happens with Album and song. On the Slimserver page the music is all visible, but if I select something and click either play or add, it does not move accross to the playlist page. I can play Radio. I have done a complete uninstall and a fresh download to no avail. Is this likely to be a firmware problem on my SB3? Any ideas? Re: [slim] Re: SB in the kitchen advice please
Thank you Speakers are available via numerous resources. I bought mine via Sevenoaks (Hi Fi shop), but any decent retailer should be able to source them. You can buy cheap ones via E-bay but I could not vouch for quality. Personally I would avoid any of the cheapos and invest in a good brand name, Boston, BW, Monitor Audio, Kef all have ranges. Remember the SB3 is a good quality component which I feel deserves to be partnered with decent kit to enjoy at its best. As for the amp, yes I have set this to a reasonable level, and just use the volume control via the SB. Once again I cant emphasise enough how good it really is. I have sunk an SB3 in the wall, mounted ceiling speakers and (Due to water/electricity), installed the amp in a cupboard outside the room. As cabling was not a problem due to buiding work, I have connected the SB via ethernet (Router is in office in another part of house) I actually run it wirelessly though. For speakers I paid more because of the moisture in the room, they are by Boston and were about £150. Any amp from the cheap web outlets will do. Richer sounds do a quality amp for about £50 which coupled with decent speakers will surprise and delight you. The whole thing is nothing short of brilliant. [slim] Skins
Can anyone help me please. I was checking out Skins for my PC and selected one which I cannot now clear from my desktop. I did not catch the name of it, but it looks like an Apple I-Pod skin. White screen, Large Icons. There appears to be no way back to change this. I've clicked on all buttons, and nothing takes me back to settings. I have just downloaded newest version of Slim hoping it would default back to the original skin, but it hasn't. I have looked in all the folders in the Slimserver programme folder, but to be honest that is getting beyond my level of knowledge. Can anyone advise how to get back the settings to change the skin. Re: [slim] Re: Last.fm streaming
Guys I have only lately picked up on this thread. I have the free version of Last FM at the moment which I frequently use. Obviously from this thread I'm guessing this can be streamed via my SB. I have gone to the proxy settings and typed the IP address of my router as the host but the display just sits reading connecting to server. Could anyone take a minute or point me in the right direction as to how I configure Last FM to stream via my SB's. I am currently running SB1 (Wirelessly) and SB3 Wired. PS. I am running the new Belkin "Pre N" router. Supposedly with far better signal stregnth and range. What I have found though is that only one SB can connect to it wirelessly. It doesn't matter which one, but the other sits with wireless signal stregnth showing "0%". It doesn't matter where the connected box is either(in terms of range). If I have the SB1 connected (Downstairs) and the SB3 sitting right next to the router, the SB3 still shows 0% and vice versa. Anyone any experience of this? ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Nokia 770 Internet Appliance as Slimserver Controller
This is a great thread and judging by the amount of response allready, there is huge potential for Nokia et all in this niche. For too long the people like AMX, Creston etc have monopolised and as such it has been a rich mans playground. I truly believe that as products like this become available we have to embrace them and show other manufacturers that we DO want products like this, but are only willing to take them up if they get theQuality/ Funtion/Price correct. That said, why cant Slim put a video out port on the SB? I have mine integrated with my home cinema setup to provide music instaed of playing CD's. (I have a seperate room for serious Hi Fi listening). If you had a video out, then you could display your slimserver on your TV/Plasma/Projector. You could then navigate this via your remote giving you much more ease of use for setting up playlists etc. I dont think this would have an adverse effect on the price of the SB. Any thoughts all?
