Re: [slim] Using iMac as a music client and living with iTunes?

2009-09-18 Thread ianof

OK ..

answered the first part of my question myself by searching these
forums.!

Installed squeezeplay beta on my iMac and it connects to my
squeezecenter and synchronises with the other devices I have. Great!

So my question now revolves around the best method of setting up a
separate itunes library on my iMac to 'feed' my iphone (and keep a
backup of all my music) - I'm guessing there are other threads on this
so I will continue to search.

The ideal situation would be...

- I keep maintaining my music on my WHS server;

- This music folder on the WHS is somehow synchronised with my iMac and
itunes picks up any changes to the folder

- iTunes is used only for the iphone and when I want to listen to music
exclusively on my iMac.

Too much to ask for?

Regards

Ian

Re: [slim] Using iMac as a music client and living with iTunes?

2009-09-18 Thread ianof

Thanks David

I'll search on the following topics
1. iTunes 9 and folder monitoring
2. Synchronising files between windows home server and iMac OSX10.6 (if
I can't get iTunes to do this)
3. iTunes 9 'self-managing' (to avoid me having to add every new folder
of music manually) .

It would be great if iTunes could monitor the folder on the windows
home server and reflect any changes in the iTunes library which will be
held on the iMac (i'd have to go wired while it build the library given
the amount of data). I'd back up my mp3s differently (have RAID on the
home server)

Will post progress here. Any further advice appreciated (pretty new to
this iMac and iTunes thing but have had squeezecenter and mp3tag working
well for years)

Regards

Ian

Thanks

[slim] Using iMac as a music client and living with iTunes?

2009-09-17 Thread ianof

Hi there

I have 2 SB3s and 1 Duet. I hold all my music on a TranquilPC windows
home server running squeezecenter 7.3.2.

I have recently purchased an iMac for the family. I would like to be
able to listen to music on my iMac direct from the WHS and ideally be
able to sych the iMac with the SB3s and duet (so I can have the same
music playing in a number of different rooms). Is it possible to use an
iMac as a client of squeezecentre and synch to my other SB devices?

Also I manually (!) copy all my music media from the WHS to the iMac to
get iTunes to select music for my iPhone (I did this to keep a copy of
all my music and keep iTunes away from my main library). However when I
add a new folder of music to iTunes I get duplicates etc. Any clever
way of keeping the folder on my WHS and my iMac in synch and having
itunes keep up with additions?

Thanks for any advice

Regards

Ian

Re: [slim] What 'library management' tool for synching with Sony mp3 player ( ipod)

2009-02-08 Thread ianof

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I guess what I'm looking for is a tool that scans the music location
and updates the library location and updates automatically when new
folders added etc (I think the GOLD version of media monkey can do
this). Ill look into the J. river media jukebox which also seems to be
able to do this.

[slim] What 'library management' tool for synching with Sony mp3 player ( ipod)

2009-02-05 Thread ianof

I'm the proud owner of 2 SB3s and 1 Duet with all of my songs collected
over 20 years (20,000) held on a Tranquil PC SQA-5H home server running
squeezecenter 7.3.2 and MusicIP.

I manage all of my song library through folders and occasionally update
the full squeezecenter library.

I recently purchased a Sony NWZ-739F mp3 player (loverly piece of kit)
because it is drag and drop and it allowed easily move the folders of
music I wanted. However I've begun to realise the limitations of this
in that when I retag music it doesn't automatically sych through or I
can't easily create playlists on my PC (using musicip) and copy these
to the device.

So what I want is a tool that will sync to the Sony but which I can
point at my homeserver and refresh easily. I do not want to have to
start managing my library through this tool (like Itunes forces me
to).

My son has an IPOD nano so I have itunes but I can't figure out how to
automatically recreate/refresh the library (other than remembering to
add the folders of music I add manually). Single solution to both
devices would be brilliant.

Regards

Ian

[slim] sending sb3 sound to 2 sets of speakers?

2007-11-16 Thread ianof

guys

my neighbour wants to run sound from 1 squeezebox to 2 sets of speakers
in 2 adjacent rooms.

does he need to get an amp with 2 speaker outputs or is there any other
smart way of 'splitting' the speaker audio out?
