Just a quick answer before I call it a day. I'm from The Netherlands so
shipping a complete unit to the USA is probably not the best solution
;-)

Ralphy provides more up-to-date versions of SqueezePlay for
Windows/OSX/Linux on
_this (\"https://www.mediafire.com/folder/4q8dvq20iyz9e/Builds\";)_
website. They all have the new Joggler skin included and provide a good
starting point for testing new versions of your VU meters. I am using
Windows and on this platform it's as easy as replacing the included .png
file with a new version before starting SqueezePlay. The file to replace
on Windows is:

C:\Program
Files\SqueezePlay\lua\applets\JogglerSkin\images\UNOFFICIAL/VUMeter/vu_analog_25seq_w.png

jstraw,

I saw your post in the "Building the best Pi LMS Player" thread where
you asked what thread is best suited for discussing your updated analog
VU meters.

First of all thanks for your continued support. As these high-res VU
meters are specific to JiveLite and especially the Joggler skin (which
to my knowledge is the only skin still under active development) I would
suggest you continue in the
_JiveLite
(\"http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?98156-Announce-JiveLite-cut-down-squeezebox-control-application\";)_
or
_JiveLite_for_piCorePlayer
(\"http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103330-Jivelite-for-piCorePlayer\";)_
thread. All development on the Joggler skin, at the moment, is for the
piCorePlayer's included version of JiveLite (made by Ralphy).

I am in the process of making my first analog VU meter and am also
struggling with a decent name. As a placeholder I opted for JiveLite
Touch.

It's not really about the display size but about the resolution of the
Joggler skin. The Joggler skin is, in my opinion, the only real
successor of the original Touch interface. All other HD skins lack
certain features compared to this skin. The current Joggler skin
resolution is 800x480 which is why the official Raspberry Pi display
(which has the same resolution) is such a good match. To be future proof
you could develop your new meter in a vector based program like
Illustrator/Inkscape.

Where are you located? And what kind of contraption are you looking
for?

I will post other JiveLite related stuff in the JiveLite for
piCorePlayer thread.

Ronnie,

I do have some tips and tricks but these are specific to my build. These
involve the FLIRC adapter I use, how to sent a Wake-On-LAN command from
piCorePlayer so my LMS server powers up, issues with JiveLite and their
solutions and tinkering with other VU meter skins. I already posted
these solutions in other threads, but I can post them here as well if
there is interest.

I am no Linux wizard so most of it was trial and error and a bit of
Google :D

No problem. That's the nice thing about a Raspberry Pi based solution:
everybody can build one according to their own personal preference.

I thought about the Audophonics kit, which represents decent value for
money in my opinion, but decided against it and went for a
piCorePlayer/Official 7" display/Jivelite solution. The OLED display is
too small to be readable from a distance of a few meters.

Interesting alternative for the Raspberry Pi (not price-wise):
_UP_-_Intel_x5-Z8300_board_in_a_Raspberry_Pi2_form_factor
(\"https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/802007522/up-intel-x5-z8300-board-in-a-raspberry-pi2-form-fa/description\";)_

Raspberry Pi GPIO compatible according to the developers.

One thing against this kit is the slow update rate of the OLEd display.
See _this_video (\"https://youtu.be/o7v0J_CfpNY\";)_ of the kit

I do have the HifiBerry DAC and IQAudio DAC. Both are based on the
PCM5122 DAC from TI. The Audiophonics has a Sabre ES9023 DAC and a TCXO
0.5ppm which, theoretically, should produce better jitter values. My
ears cannot hear any difference between them though (could be my age:
50). I do think the Audiophonics DAC has a bit better built quality,
especially the RCA connectors are more sturdy.

The Audiophonics DAC does not have hardware volume control whereas the
HifiBerry and IQAudio do have hardware volume control.

You could use an
_Audiophonics_I-Sabre_DAC_ES9023_V2_TCXO_DAC
(\"http://www.audiophonics.fr/en/kits-modules-diy-dac/audiophonics-i-sabre-dac-es9023-v2-tcxo-raspberry-pi-20-a-b-i2s-p-10176.html\";)_.
This DAC has the RCA connectors aligned with the USB ports/ethernet
connection. I have the "normal" version of this DAC and the RCA
connectors from the audio cable are visible at the top of the screen. It
doesn't bother me though ;)

Steen,

Thanks for this solution! Why haven't I thought of this configuration
before

It looks like this also has the advantage of the frame stands not
blocking two of the USB ports.

You can also use

Don't forget a reliable 2A 5V power supply if you want to power both
Raspberry Pi and touch screen with the same power supply. I can
recommend the
_official_Raspberry_Pi_power_supply
(\"https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/universal-power-supply/\";)_.
My experience is that power supplies with a USB connector and a
detachable USB to micro USB cable will produce an under-voltage warning.
This is due to the resistance of most USB to micro USB cables (24AWG vs.
28AWG).

Pascal,

You need to resize the original jstraw .png file to exactly 1 x 453
pixels. Then everything lines up OK. Picture attached is of the Joggler
skin in SqeeuzePlay for Windows with the vu_analog_25seq_w.png file
replaced.

You can use the 2...9 keys to quickly select a letter just like on the
original remote. E.g. '3' cycles through the letters D, E and F. Hope
this helps.

Changed logging level for both Now Playing and Custom Clock to debug and
I now see lots of errors in the SqueezePlay logfile when the Custom
Clock VU meter screensaver kicks in:

Code:

ERROR squeezeplay.ui.draw - get_image_surface:413 no SDL surface available

This is on a Windows 7 x64 system with an integrated nvidia graphics
card. Also tested SqueezePlay on an Intel NUC with the same result.
Surprisingly the Mac OS X version does work OK. I think it must be a
Windows only bug.

Re: [slim] SqueezePlay for Windows with ASIO, DirectSound, WASAPI and WDMKS device support.

2015-10-04 Thread kolossos4730

Hi Ralphy,

To test some of the custom VU meters supplied with the Custom Clock
applet I installed Erland's Custom Clock and License Manager applet (I
do have a license for all his plugins) in the latest SqueezePlay version
with WQVGA Small as the screen skin.

When I select one of the Custom Clock VU meters styles, the first time
the screensaver kicks in this indeed displays the VU meter in
SqueezePlay (see first screenshot). All subsequent screensaver
activations display a black background and, depending on the style, the
artist/album/title (see second screenshot). All VU meter styles do
behave this way and only if I uninstall/reinstall the Custom Clock
applet the VU meter becomes visible again (but only the first time the
screensaver is activated).

18930

18931

Is there a way I can get this to work with the Windows version of
SqueezePlay?

Regards,

Arie
