Re: [slim] Net::UDAP - SqueezeBox Receiver configuration tool
Indeed, that just saved me, too! [slim] Squeezecenter miserably slow all of a sudden
Hi. I've had Squeezecenter running on a dedicated machine for 2 years...never a problem. Within the last few weeks, the server is miserably slow. The machine is untouched and sits behind a pretty solid firewall. There's no malware on it. It's an XP box, static IP. Requesting the Squeezecenter interface via http using the loopback host is painfully slow on the box it's running on. Getting at it from one of the other computers, etc., is also bad. Nothing seems to be react quickly. Running 7.5.1 - r30836. Where do I start? Now that my wife has grown attached to this thing, it's really starting to hack her off, to. Thanks. Re: [slim] Squeezecenter miserably slow all of a sudden
Also, according to Task Manager, the memory/cpu usage of SqueezeSvr.eve seems high to me. CPU is pegged at 50%, memory usage around 220,000K. Now, I haven't really looked at it before, but that does seem high to me. -- kpfeif kpfeif's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9991 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83132 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Squeezebox Touch Usability Question
Hi. I'm excited about the new Squeezebox Radio, and the Touch surely looks pretty, but regarding the user interface choice with the touch - I don't get it. I see two ways that people will use this: 1. As the music source for a full-featured A/V system (or just an A system) 2. As the music source for a small, stand-alone system with a set of powered speakers. I use my Duet in a setup like #1. I have a full-featured remote (the Duet Controller OR the iPeng on the iPod touch) that I use to surf around. The screen is right in my hand - easy to see, etc. What I can't imagine is a screen all the way across the room...and I don't see me getting off my big butt to walk over there and change music. I have great vision, but a small LCD screen across the room? Difficult at best. #2 - that'll work fine, and I'm sure it'd be great. But the Boom does that already...complete with speakers. Yeah, there's the screen, I guess. Other ideas... Have some sort of remote input setup for the Touch and use it like a jukebox controller. You'd still need to run the audio signals from the touch back to a receiver/amp. Am I missing something? BTW - I'm ordering the new Radio today. Just what I need for my small nightstand. -- kpfeif kpfeif's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9991 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67390 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Smiling - local Clearchannel stations AVAILABLE on RadioTime
Maybe this is old news, but I was glad to see that our local Clearchannel AM stations are available on RadioTime. There are huge powerlines between me and the transmitters - I get nothing but static on AM radio. We're back on the air, and I'm loving it. Re: [slim] Multi room solution
aubuti;431220 Wrote: I think the old approach of home-run speaker wires to a centralized amp is on the wane, to be replaced by cat5e or cat6 and networked players. Not this year or next, but some time in the next few years. And your friend is very smart to do it wired instead of depending on wireless. Agreed, but I think there will always be a place for homerun speaker wiring as long as that particular zone is for background music - speakers are in the ceiling, etc. I think a mix works best for me. The dedicated background systems - the patio, kitchen, dinette, dining room - are powered by a central amp and fed from a single player. Meanwhile, the standalone systems - the the living room area, the master bedroom (where there's a TV and other sources), etc., each have their own player. I wired my house 2 years ago and already, through the advent of the Duet controller, it's out of date. I don't need the volume controls in each room. Instead I can control the volume from the remote. I couldn't afford multiple receivers so I have what I call the whole home audio bus which provides line-level audio to standalone systems and to the background music system. It works well and was awfully cheap. -- kpfeif kpfeif's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9991 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64246 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Multi room solution
I'd like to hop into this thread a bit. I have a Duet setup now and am very happy with it. Somebody I know is building a new home and asked me about his proposed whole-home audio system. It's using one of those controller units, home run speakers, central amp, etc., and dumb keypads. The cost = $8,500. Wow. I think my setup, or a setup that uses a receiver + the iPeng app, works better in that it's interactive. He's interested in doing this. He'd have a dedicated receiver for each zone - 8 zones in all. They will have gigabit wired ethernet to each receiver. Since the receivers feed independent zones, each they'll all be located by one another. I know Sonos is out there and brags about their player synchronization. So, how reliable and well do the SB receivers or Duet receivers sync? -- kpfeif kpfeif's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9991 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64246 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Slim Center + Apple TV iTunes server on same machine
Hi. I run Slim Server on a Windows XP machine that sits downstairs - I built the thing in 2003. It's based on an AMD Ahtlon XP 2400+ CPU, 2gig RAM, and tons of hard drive space. Sure, it's old, but it seem to work just fine. I'm thinking about picking up an Apple TV to serve up TV shows, etc. My sat TV bill is $68 a month for nothing but regular channels. iTunes will be running on the box, and it'll be doing the streaming, etc., of video, etc. Meanwhile, the box will also run Slim Center. Now that I think of it, I use Slim Center to usually just get at Rhapsody and internet radio, so it doesn't do a lot of music stuff from the library. That should be pretty light on the CPU load. What do you think? Can the box handle it? -- kpfeif kpfeif's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9991 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51981 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Zone 2 with Denon 3808 CI
Hi. Probably not. I have an Onkyo receiver with Zone-2 functionality. I'm betting that Denon and Onkyo implement this in the same way. Only analog sources can be routed to the Zone2 analog outs. For instance, I, too, have a Squeezebox receiver connected to CD input of the receiver. The receiver can do the D/A conversion for listening in the main room via the digital inputs, but alas, it can't route that to the Zone2 analog outs - I HAVE to hook up the analog outs of the Squeezebox to the CD input's analog ins to get the Squeezebox audio to Zone2. -- kpfeif kpfeif's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9991 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51768 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Pricing?
Ok, just thinking out loud here. The Boom is priced at a VERY competitive $299. Meanwhile, the classic Squeezebox is at that same price point. Surely the SB has some audio advantages over the Boom, but then again, the Boom is complete with a set of speakers and amps to drive them. I see people having a problem paying $299 for the SB. Will we see some price changes in the near future? I'm betting yes. -- kpfeif kpfeif's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9991 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51605 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Rhapsody no longer works
Ok, I think I got it. It was holding on (somehow) to an old invalid account email address. The log file indicated it was trying to use that. So, somehow I deleted it via Squeezenetwork. In the meantime, SC had some weird permission problem while starting. I ended up removing and reinstalling 7.2, and it's working now. -- kpfeif kpfeif's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9991 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51207 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Rhapsody no longer works
I've verified my info, password, etc. I've never had a problem with it. I can browse my Rhapsody albums, favorites, etc. I can browse, search, etc., the Rhapsody library. When I hit play I get the track gets cued up, track length displayed, etc., but nothing - the timebar that shows the track's length and the current position just sits there at 0:00 of the song. I'm paying for this thing, and it's annoying not being able to listen. Any ideas? I'm on the latest Duet software as well as SC 7.1, running under WinXP. It also doesn't seem to work via SqueezeNetwork. Same here. Very disappointed right now. I have a high-power line within 500 feet of my house and it's between the transmitters and our house.
