[slim] playing music file names with accents
I am playing my Squeezebox by sending commands through the http interface on port 9000 using wget. With Slimserver 6.5.4 on an XP Pro machine it works really well - even when the music file titles have obscure characters with accents etc. I now want to run SqueezeCenter 7 on a Vista machine, but any unusual characters are giving me problems. wget is sending identical commands to SqueezeCenter 7, but any file name with an accent just doesn't get played. Any file name without an accent plays perfectly. File names with accents play fine when I select the file when viewing SqueezeCenter 7 via the web interface Anyone got any ideas? Is the http interface different in some way between 6.5.4 and 7.0.1? -- malone malone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15007 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49327 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] How do you use your Squeezebox Controller?

Having had a look at what the controller is, I can't actually see any extra features that would make it more useful for my particular needs than my present system. So, if I had a Duet, I suspect my answer to the thread's question would still be "wouldn't use it", assuming I could still control the server using http. Thanks for your observation EnochLight. Yes, I've spent some time comparing WAV and MP3 160Kbit/s and have decided that I can hardly detect the difference on a blind test. I have good audio equipment and I suspect the reason is to do with my age. It is known that one's sensitivity to high frequencies deteriorates with age, and now I'm over sixty (so old I can't work out how to change my description on this forum from Junior Member) it's possible this effect is disguising the artifacts introduced by the MP3 compression. Mind you, I am sure there are stacks of people around who pontificate authoritatively on the merits of FLAC over MP3 who would consistently fail a blind test. But this is off-topic. -- malone malone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15007 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47945 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I've got a Squeezebox controlled by Slimserver 6.5.4. Presumably the "controller" you refer to is the remote control I got with my Squeezebox? How do I use my controller? I've never used it - probably never will. The main reason I use the Squeezecentre is as a method of getting high quality audio wirelessly from the external hard drive where all my MP3s are stored to my amplifier. Most of my listening is to classical music for which I find classification systems based on the MP3 ID tags unhelpful. I don't directly view the Squeezeserver via a browser on my computer because I prefer to customise the classification and search of my MP3s my way. My "controller" is my general purpose laptop computer running MS Excel. I have a database of all my MP3s classified according to my own system on spreadsheets. I've written code in VBA which allows me to search and select the appropriate piece of music, and then VBA sends http commands to instruct Slimserver to play the appropriate music and control the player. I don't want wall-to-wall musak - I just want to listen to a piece of music every now and again. Most of the pieces I play last over 1/2 hr so I'm quite happy to return to my laptop when I want to hear a different piece of music. I'm very happy with the result. It may be a different approach from most people, but a decently designed product like the Squeezecenter should, and does, allow this sort of flexibility. -- malone malone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15007 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47945 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Slimserver Problems running on Windows Vista
Has anyone managed to get SqueezeCenter_7.0 going on on Windows Vista x64 Ultimate SP1? I can't get SqueezeCenter to start as a service - I get the error message that it started and then shut down again. I've tried many of the things mentioned in this thread without success. Before I continue trying it would be great if someone could provide an existence theorem for SqueezeCenter 7.0 working on Vista SP1. -- malone malone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15007 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32578 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] http command for skipping a certain number of seconds within a song
Yes, that's the answer, and it works fine. I had looked through the CLI page but missed the "time" command. Thanks very much. -- malone malone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15007 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42833 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] http command for skipping a certain number of seconds within a song
Some of the MP3 files I listen to are quite long (1 to 2hrs). It would be very useful to be able to skip, forwards or backwards, a specified number of seconds or minutes within a song? Is there an http command I can use in my browser to control the player to do this? -- malone malone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15007 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42833 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Using Squeezebox with a player other than Slimserver
Yes - I think you may be right. I've just managed to get Wave Input working on another (desktop) computer with a much superior sound card. But it's very poor - lots of drop-outs. I'm still looking into it.... -- malone malone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15007 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42191 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Using Squeezebox with a player other than Slimserver
Thanks for those ideas. I just been trying WaveInput which sounds the most productive direction, but I can't get it to work at all on my laptop with WinXP Pro SP2. It appears in all the Slimserver menus and says Audio 0 is playing but there is no sound from the Squeezebox... -- malone malone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15007 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42191 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Using Squeezebox with a player other than Slimserver
I often play my MP3s with Total Recorder because it offers more flexibility than Slimerver (eg skipping a certain amount of seconds forward or backward, and a wide range of editing functions) I wonder whether there is any way of directing the output from Total Recorder, or from any other MP3 player for that matter, directly to my SqueezeBox rather than my computer's sound card? Or does this question demonstrate my complete lack of understanding of what's going on? -- malone malone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15007 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42191 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
