Re: [slim] LMS with Google Home, Chromecast and IFTTT (maybe)?
Hi there Check out the hab-tunes videos to get an idea of how LMS voice control works on Alexa. I'm hoping to migrate this to Google Home once released (early new year) As Castalla says, there's no direct selection of music yet (working on favourites and playlists right now). It will always be for control of LMS and squeezeboxes - I've tried direct streaming music to the Echo device itself but it's hampered by very significant lag so playback of local files through an echo of google home is unlikely - you'll always need to play back via a SB device. Stay tuned to Alexa developments to get an idea of what might be coming to a Google Home near you. [slim] Streams fail when Radio synched with SqueezeSlave?
I have a Squeezebox Radio and a couple of instances of SqueezeSlave outputting to t-amps. When I use the Radio in standalone mode, it has no problem playing from my library of any internet radio station. If I sync the radio with one or more of the squeezeslave players, library music plays fine but internet radio streams wont;s play (radio interface seems to hang at 'connecting' or similar) Where should I be looking to solve this? [slim] Squeezeslave just quits - any thought?
I use squeezeslave to provide players in my whole house system. Have had no problems, rock solid. I've recently set up Win XP as a virtual system on VMware server and set up a single instance of squeezeslave. Now when I launch it from cmd, it opens, registers in SqueezeBox Server but shuts down silently after a minute or so. (back to C:\ prompt). If I play something through it, it stays up but once playback ceases, it will quit after a minute as well. I've tried specifying a logfile and while the file is created, nothing is written. Any ideas? Had no problems like this on a real pc but don't see why virtualized would be any different in this regard? Re: [slim] SqueezeSlave is blocking my SPDIF when playing
Well, it turns out that I was using ASIO drivers for the squeezeslave devices and the DVD playback software. M-audio does not support multi-client access via ASIO. Multi-client access is available via WDM drivers or a combination of ASIO and WDM. I set my DVD playback software to use WDM SPDIF driver and all is well. Now, if only squeezeslave didn't fall over so much when listening to internet radio it would be perfect for my needs Peter -- meep meep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12744 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66947 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

You are, of course, correct. That will teach me to jump to conclusions. I set up Windows Media Player to play to one of the analog outputs and this too prevented SDPIF output. [slim] SqueezeSlave is blocking my SPDIF when playing
Hi all I have an m-audio delta 410 PCI sound card in my Win XP box running squeezecenter. The 410 gives me 4x stereo outs and a SPDIF out. I am running 3x instances of squeezeslave on the same machine each set up with a discrete MAC address and set to output to three of the stereo outs on the sound card. This works great and gives me multi-zone audio along with a couple of squeezeboxes. Now, if there is music playing on one or more of the squeezeslave players, when I launch DVD software (TheaterTek or ArcSoft Total Media Theater) on that machine, no sound is heard on the spdif output. If I quit the squeezeslave instance and restart DVD playback, sound works. None of the squeezeslave instances address the spdif output. Why would sound playing through squeezeslave addressing analog outputs affect didgtal playback from another application? Here's the result of my testing. In each of the following instances, I try playing a DVD through one of the players set to output via SPDIF; SqueezeCenter Not Running, SqueezeSalve Not Running, DVD Audio OK SqueezeCenter Running, SqueezeSlave Not Running, DVD Audio OK SqueezeCenter Running, SqueezeSlave Running (not playing), DVD Audio OK SqueezeCenter Running, SqueezeSalve Running (playing), DVD Audio FAIL Any thoughts? Re: [slim] Player Name Display?
Hi KDF I'm aware of that issue and, yes, I would have set different MAC addresses in each instance of SoftSqueez. (On my previous server I had a batch file that launched each instance with a unique MAC address, set the correct channel on teh sound card etc.) Actually, the difference is the addition of a SqueezeBox to the set up since I tried this before so I might remove that and see if it's causing an issue. The thing is, if you have a PC serving tunes anyway, why not leverage it as your playback system as well (for a small extra outlay). Regarding sound quality, in the past I have used ASIO drivers to bypass the windows kmixer on the m-audio card. This negates many of the arguments against onboard decoding (resampling!) and provided the audio card has decent dac circuitry, you can't really get much cleaner audio out. I happened to have the m-audio left over from a previous HTPC build and found it fit for purpose. If it had not been to hand, I would most likely have used a cheap sound blaster or similar. Given that this is for whole house audio using budget amps and mix and match speakers, the set up is more than adequate. (For serious listening, a more serious system would be advised). Having said that, I'm more than happy with the sound quality, given that it's always background in any case. One could install RME or higher end sound cards for beter output. Guys Sorry, did not have notification on this thread and happend across it just again today. Different songs, different zones = easy. Syncronisation = Moderately easy Though, with SS 6.x, syncronisation was not precise and would produce odd echoes standing between adjacent zones. Have recently upgraded to SS 7 but have not tried zone sync yet. @schatzy That Russound Amp certainly looks like a good, low power, flexible solution. However, the T-Amp is hard to beat for price at around $40! I really like that switching, though. @Zaragon Yes, additional zones require speakers and an amp, and a second soundcard if going over 4/5 zones. However, SBs will need some kind of amp anyway. I've spent about 4 years looking at a cost effective, DIY multi-zone whole house audio system. I've looked at the matrix switching, multi-zone ,1,000+ amps, the various in-wall solutions etc. For my money, the best solution to a star-topology pre-wired speaker set-up is as described. Slim Server is such a flexible system. I still feel guilty about leveraging all the free bits though and will be purchasing a squeeze box anon. Re: [slim] Multi Zone Installation help please
And then there's this apporach; I have a similar star configuration with all my speaker cables running back to a single point. This point is adjacent to my structured wiring panels, network hubs etc. Essentially, everything terminates proximate to each other in my attic. Beside this mass of cables, I have installed my server running Win Server 2003. This holds all my music files and runs SlimServer. In the server, I have installed an M-Audio Delta 410 sound card that gives me 4x stereo outputs and one SPDIF output. The SPDIF runs to my A/V receiver in my HT. The 4x Analog outs run to cheap as chips digital T-Amps stacked beside the server. Each one powers a set of speakers somewhere in the house. I have set up 5 instances of SoftSqueeze on the server, each one with a different MAC address and mapped to one of the 5 audio outputs. I use any of the following to access SlimServer and control music in any zone; -One of two Nokia 770 handhelds accessing the Nokia 770 skin -A PSP accessing the Nokia 770 skin -Any PC or laptop anywhere in the house. Now, not a squeezebox in sight and a fabuosuly usable system! To add more zones, I just need to add more sound cards to my server. To my mind, this set-up is best for the start speaker config. My next task is to have my alarm system cut off power to the T-Amps so that they do not run needlessly when the house is empty.
