Re: [slim] LMS with Google Home, Chromecast and IFTTT (maybe)?

2017-12-13 Thread meep

Hi there

Check out the hab-tunes videos to get an idea of how LMS voice control
works on Alexa. I'm hoping to migrate this to Google Home once released
(early new year)

As Castalla says, there's no direct selection of music yet (working on
favourites and playlists right now). It will always be for control of
LMS and squeezeboxes - I've tried direct streaming music to the Echo
device itself but it's hampered by very significant lag so playback of
local files through an echo of google home is unlikely - you'll always
need to play back via a SB device.

Stay tuned to Alexa developments to get an idea of what might be coming
to a Google Home near you.

A forum migration is a significant undertaking. I think everything SB

[slim] Streams fail when Radio synched with SqueezeSlave?

2010-06-24 Thread meep

I have a Squeezebox Radio and a couple of instances of SqueezeSlave
outputting to t-amps.

When I use the Radio in standalone mode, it has no problem playing from
my library of any internet radio station.

If I sync the radio with one or more of the squeezeslave players,
library music plays fine but internet radio streams wont;s play (radio
interface seems to hang at 'connecting' or similar)

Where should I be looking to solve this?

Thanks

[slim] Squeezeslave just quits - any thought?

2010-04-20 Thread meep

I use squeezeslave to provide players in my whole house system. Have had
no problems, rock solid.

I've recently set up Win XP as a virtual system on VMware server and
set up a single instance of squeezeslave.

Now when I launch it from cmd, it opens, registers in SqueezeBox Server
but shuts down silently after a minute or so. (back to C:\ prompt).

If I play something through it, it stays up but once playback ceases,
it will quit after a minute as well.

I've tried specifying a logfile and while the file is created, nothing
is written.

Any ideas? Had no problems like this on a real pc but don't see why
virtualized would be any different in this regard?

Re: [slim] SqueezeSlave is blocking my SPDIF when playing

2009-08-23 Thread meep

Well, it turns out that I was using ASIO drivers for the squeezeslave
devices and the DVD playback software.

M-audio does not support multi-client access via ASIO. Multi-client
access is available via WDM drivers or a combination of ASIO and WDM.

I set my DVD playback software to use WDM SPDIF driver and all is
well.

Now, if only squeezeslave didn't fall over so much when listening to
internet radio it would be perfect for my needs

I set up Windows Media Player to play to one of the analog outputs and

[slim] SqueezeSlave is blocking my SPDIF when playing

2009-08-22 Thread meep

Hi all

I have an m-audio delta 410 PCI sound card in my Win XP box running
squeezecenter.

The 410 gives me 4x stereo outs and a SPDIF out.

I am running 3x instances of squeezeslave on the same machine each set
up with a discrete MAC address and set to output to three of the stereo
outs on the sound card. This works great and gives me multi-zone audio
along with a couple of squeezeboxes.

Now, if there is music playing on one or more of the squeezeslave
players, when I launch DVD software (TheaterTek or ArcSoft Total Media
Theater) on that machine, no sound is heard on the spdif output. If I
quit the squeezeslave instance and restart DVD playback, sound works.

None of the squeezeslave instances address the spdif output.

Why would sound playing through squeezeslave addressing analog outputs
affect didgtal playback from another application?

Here's the result of my testing. In each of the following instances, I
try playing a DVD through one of the players set to output via SPDIF;

SqueezeCenter Not Running, SqueezeSalve Not Running, DVD Audio OK
SqueezeCenter Running, SqueezeSlave Not Running, DVD Audio OK
SqueezeCenter Running, SqueezeSlave Running (not playing), DVD Audio
OK
SqueezeCenter Running, SqueezeSalve Running (playing), DVD Audio FAIL

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Re: [slim] Player Name Display?

2008-09-28 Thread meep

Hi KDF

I'm aware of that issue and, yes, I would have set different MAC
addresses in each instance of SoftSqueez. (On my previous server I had
a batch file that launched each instance with a unique MAC address, set
the correct channel on teh sound card etc.)

Actually, the difference is the addition of a SqueezeBox to the set up
since I tried this before so I might remove that and see if it's
causing an issue.

[slim] Can no longer run multiple SoftSqueeze

2008-09-28 Thread meep

Hi

Just updated to 7.2 and latest everything (squeezebox firmware,
softsqueeze etc.)

With previous versions, I could run multiple copies of softsqueeze on a
single PC (multi-zone system). Now, when I start the a second instance
and hit play, my Squezebox and other softsqueeze stop playing and it
looks like SqueezeCentre locks up (the only way to get music back is to
restart the application on the server).

Is this one of the 7.2 bugs??

Thanks

[slim] Problem Launching SoftSqueeze From Batch File

2008-04-18 Thread meep

Hi

I've set up a batch file to launch an instance of SoftSqueeze. (I'm
doing tis as I want my server to launch multiple instances at startup
for a multi-room set-up).

Anyway, the following command line in the batch file results in a
permanent message "connecting to slimserver...";

java -Dslimserver=localhost -Dmacaddress=f7:25:9d:78:9f:65
-Dskins=headless -Daudio.mixer="M-Audio Delta 410 3/4" -jar
softsqueeze.jar

Removing the headless option as follows results in the errors listed
below dumped at the command line;

java -Dslimserver=localhost -Dmacaddress=f7:25:9d:78:9f:65
-Daudio.mixer="M-Audio Delta 410 3/4" -jar softsqueeze.jar

In this second instance, SoftSqueeze UI opens but only one instance, a
second instance will not launch until I dismiss the first.

This is on Windows Server 2003, Slimserver 7, Softsqueeze 3.6, latest
Java runtime as downloaded today.

Here's the complete error generated when no -Dskins param is defined;

Help appreciated

Peter

Squeezebox 169 = bargain?

2008-02-23 Thread meep

Hi

Browsing my local PC superstore this week I see they have Squeezebox
for €169 - down from €299 a few weeks ago (I think).

This is surely a bargain, right? Now, I'm wondering, are they just
clearing local stock or is there a new version coming out and would I
be better holding off?

When I get a Squeezebox, I will certainly post subjective comparison.
The thing is, if you have a PC serving tunes anyway, why not leverage
it as your playback system as well (for a small extra outlay).

Regarding sound quality, in the past I have used ASIO drivers to bypass
the windows kmixer on the m-audio card. This negates many of the
arguments against onboard decoding (resampling!) and provided the audio
card has decent dac circuitry, you can't really get much cleaner audio
out.

Just what I was about to post! I happened to have the m-audio left over
from a previous HTPC build and found it fit for purpose. If it had not
been to hand, I would most likely have used a cheap sound blaster or
similar. Given that this is for whole house audio using budget amps and
mix and match speakers, the set up is more than adequate. (For serious
listening, a more serious system would be advised).

Having said that, I'm more than happy with the sound quality, given
that it's always background in any case. One could install RME or
higher end sound cards for beter output.

Guys

Sorry, did not have notification on this thread and happend across it
just again today.

Different songs, different zones = easy.
Syncronisation = Moderately easy

Though, with SS 6.x, syncronisation was not precise and would produce
odd echoes standing between adjacent zones. Have recently upgraded to
SS 7 but have not tried zone sync yet.

@schatzy
That Russound Amp certainly looks like a good, low power, flexible
solution. However, the T-Amp is hard to beat for price at around $40! I
really like that switching, though.

@Zaragon
Yes, additional zones require speakers and an amp, and a second
soundcard if going over 4/5 zones. However, SBs will need some kind of
amp anyway.

I've spent about 4 years looking at a cost effective, DIY multi-zone
whole house audio system. I've looked at the matrix switching,
multi-zone ,€1,000+ amps, the various in-wall solutions etc. For my
money, the best solution to a star-topology pre-wired speaker set-up is
as described. Slim Server is such a flexible system. I still feel guilty
about leveraging all the free bits though and will be purchasing a
squeeze box anon.

Now if they only did video as well.

Re: [slim] Multi Zone Installation help please

2007-12-17 Thread meep

And then there's this apporach;

I have a similar star configuration with all my speaker cables running
back to a single point. This point is adjacent to my structured wiring
panels, network hubs etc. Essentially, everything terminates proximate
to each other in my attic.

Beside this mass of cables, I have installed my server running Win
Server 2003. This holds all my music files and runs SlimServer.

In the server, I have installed an M-Audio Delta 410 sound card that
gives me 4x stereo outputs and one SPDIF output.

The SPDIF runs to my A/V receiver in my HT. The 4x Analog outs run to
cheap as chips digital T-Amps stacked beside the server. Each one
powers a set of speakers somewhere in the house.

I have set up 5 instances of SoftSqueeze on the server, each one with a
different MAC address and mapped to one of the 5 audio outputs.

I use any of the following to access SlimServer and control music in
any zone;
-One of two Nokia 770 handhelds accessing the Nokia 770 skin
-A PSP accessing the Nokia 770 skin
-Any PC or laptop anywhere in the house.

Now, not a squeezebox in sight and a fabuosuly usable system! To add
more zones, I just need to add more sound cards to my server.

To my mind, this set-up is best for the start speaker config. My next
task is to have my alarm system cut off power to the T-Amps so that
they do not run needlessly when the house is empty.

[slim] SoftSqueeze Good, SqueezeSlave Bad

2007-11-18 Thread meep

I've started converting my CD library to FLAC.

I have SlimServer 6.5.4 set up on a Win 2003 Server, Dual 2.8 Xeon, 2GB
Ram box with M-Audio Delta 410 sound card.

If I fire up SqueezeSlave (0.7.0) and play a FLAC file, I get a lot of
digital interference; pops, splutters, pauses, stutter, micro-replays,
skips etc.

If I launch SoftSqueeze and play the same track to the same audio
device, all is well.

Now, I'd prefer not use SoftSqueeze as i want to run this as a
multi-zone system with multiple headless soft instances and I don't
want the Java overhead etc. that SoftSqueeze entails.

Anyone any idea why SqueezeSlave might be misbahaving?

[slim] Multizone jnlp problem...

2007-10-28 Thread meep

Hi All

I've set up batch file to launch 3x instances of softsqueeze. The
batch file, (reproduced below) launches slightly modified verions of
.jnlp per instance. The purpose of the .jnlp files is to set the MAC
address and sound dievice per softsqueeze instance.

When I set this uo a few monhs ago, it worked perfectly. Running the
batch file would launch the 3x instances and each would have seperate
settings.

Now, however, the 3x softsqueeze instances launch but they do not take
on the different MAC and device settings. They all take the same
settings and I must change them manually via each player settings.

All I can think that has changed are either an OS update or, more
likely, a Java update.

Anyone any thoughts on how I might fix this?

The batch file is as follows;

C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaws.exe -offline "C:\Program
Files\SlimServer\server\HTML\EN\html\softsqueeze\softsqueeze_movies.jnlp"

C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaws.exe -offline "C:\Program

Re: [slim] Help: Can't rescan iTunes

2007-10-14 Thread meep

Solved it:

It's necessary to pasted the path to your iTunes library into the
'Music Folder' field under Server Settings --> Basic.

Odd but scanning now works.

[slim] Help: Can't rescan iTunes

2007-10-13 Thread meep

All

I had my slim server set up to use my iTunes library and it worked
great with my multiple soft squeeze instances. (everything on same Win
Server 2003 box: slim server, iTubnes, softsqueeze).

Yesterday, I wanted to see how FLACs wouyld work with my setup. I used
EAC to create a FLAC version of a CD. I switched off use iTunes in SS
server settings and pointed to the flac directory. I did a clear &
rescan. All worked great, SS found the album and ll listing showed 1
album, 1 artist etc.

OK, test done, I reversed my steps (switched use iTunes back on etc.).
Did a clear and rescan but no luck. SlimServer still found the single
FLAC album. I cleared the music path field and did a rescan, now SS
finds 0 albums 0 tracks.

Any ideas how I get my SS instance to connect to my iTunes again?

Thanks

Peter

[slim] multiple softsqueeze startup help

2007-08-11 Thread meep

hi

i have a pc with swveral audio outs. one is usb to a receiver, others
are analog outs on m-audio delta 410. i'm using slimserver and multiple
softsqueeze instances to drive a multi-zone setup.

i am using a batch file to launch several .jlnp files into turn, each
with a different mac address specified. this works well with
softsqueeze 1 outputting to usb and softsqueeze 2 outputting to delta
out 1/2. however, when i add in a third instance outputting to m-audio
3/4, tracks will not play to that player instance in slimserver UNTIL i
have first started something playing in the payer attached to out 1/2.

this is odd.

slimserver and softsqueeze instances running on the same win server
2003 box serving itunes lib on the same machine.

attempting to play a track in 3/4 before launching one on 1/2 results
in the progess bar starting, progressing a little and resetting.

any ideas?

peter
