Re: [slim] 7.6 and MusicIP not working

2011-08-09 Thread mjm2705

I raised an issue with the iTunes scanner on 7.6 and it appears to be a
known issue which also affects MusicIP.

Check this thread for status and link to bug report.

Re: [slim] No more free last.fm on the SB!

2011-02-08 Thread mjm2705

I'm torn on this ... I love last.fm as a means to scrobble stuff and see
what I'm listening to (I know that no-one else cares but it keeps me
amused) ... yes this will continue to be free, for now.

I also love using last.fm as a music discovery tool and have lost count
of how much I have spent on CD's and downloads of artists I discovered
via Last.fm that I would never have heard of otherwise. But I only
ever investigated new music via last.fm sporadically and at times when
nothing else seemed appropriate to listed to at the time ... this would
have been a few times a month but those session could have made me
explore 6 or 8 artists and buy the same or more CD's / downloads.

Am I willing to pay £3 a month for the ability to be able to go and
search out new music? Possible, I subscribe to Q and NME in print to
effectively do the same I guess ... am I likely to? probably not ... I
might explore Napster instead as I can at least then listen to the stuff
Q NME tell me is worth listening to.

But I have to say that my life would be worse off without Mono,
Explosions in the Sky, Kevin Devine, Manchester Orchestra, The Radio
Dept, Air Formation, Malory etc whom I would never have experienced
without Last.fm

I think the record companies should be funding last.fm to encourage
people like me to find new sources of listening and therefore create
new sources of revenue ... now that's a business model !!!

Re: [slim] SBS iTunes integration on a ReadyNAS

2010-08-18 Thread mjm2705

Yep, that all works fine !!!

Only minor niggle now is that when I have to reboot the iMac for a
software update then it tells me that it can't find the iTunes lib and
I have to manually navigate to the file on the NAS.

I suspect this is because iTunes loads faster that the ReadyNAS can
mount the share so no big deal.

Also, I guess this was probably due to iTunes being open when the iMac
rebooted hence it auto strtaing on re-boot? Would ensuring it was
closed on start up still make iTunes look for its library in the
background on start up?

I'm a Mac newbie ... have patience!

Re: [slim] SBS iTunes integration on a ReadyNAS

2010-08-16 Thread mjm2705

I just got a ReadyNAS Duo after buying an iMac and getting rid of my PC
/ Server. I had got to the point where I assumed iTunes integration on
the NAS was a non-strater and you've just cheered me right up.

So far I've move my iTunes folder to the NAS and pointed iTunes to it
... no probs.

Then after enabling iTunes in SBS and pointing to the .xml file on the
NAS I got the same issue as above where the scan would show my 23,000
files but the SB would show nothing :-(

I'm assuming I need to rebuild my iTunes .xml so have to delete all
entries from iTunes and re-add the files ... JUST IN CASE ... I'm now
backing up said 23,000 files before I wipe iTunes :-)

Finder on Mac says 3 hours to go so I'll wait til tomorrow before
cleaning out iTunes and re-adding the files.

I'll be going to bed with a smile on my face though knowing its
possible ... is that pathetic ???!!!

Re: [slim] how to listen to my music without computer on

2010-08-16 Thread mjm2705

You could of course buy a NAS box.

I've just bought the Netgear ReadyNAS Duo with a 1TB drive (and another
free 1TB drive on the way thanks to a mail in offer) for £200

Squeezebox server pre-installed (although I went through the relative
pain of upgrading to the latest version) and despite the fears,
performance is fine feeding both my SB3 and my Boom.

ReadyNAS is also waay better at serving 1080p video to my 2 PS3s
via 200 Mbps HomePlugs that my other 'budget' NAS box (WD MyBook
World).

So now my ReadyNAS runs away under my study desk relatively quietly all
the time with no PC or Mac connected most of the time but happily
sttreaning media to my SB's, PS3s etc, I update iTunes via my iMac but
can also connect via my 2 PC laptops.

Very easy, pretty cheap !

Re: [slim] Logitech should hire Pippin! Those having difficulty w/Controller should get iPeng.

2009-12-08 Thread mjm2705

I bought the Squeemote ipod touch app (£4.99) before knowing that ipeng
existed. I love Squeemote apart from one thing, it doesn't seem to be
able to disregard The in band names therefore all bands with The
appear under 'T' in the alpha sort list !!!

Does ipeng do anything that should tempt me to spend more money (£5.99)
??

[slim] Sb3 Boom Display Setup

2009-12-05 Thread mjm2705

I've had an SB3 for about 18 months and just added a Boom .. love them
both and now use Squeemote app on iPod Touch to make a great setup.

Only issue I always had with the SB3 was the now playing info
displayed. I has upgraded from a Netgear MP101 which allowed [Artist],
[Album] [Track Title] to be visible on a 3 line display.

When I got the SB3 I tried lots of configurations to match this and
gave up (I hate too much scrolling info)... I settled on track name,
remaining time and a mini spectrum analyser on the SB3.

When the Boom arrived I noticed the image on the box showed a Boom
displaying 'Duran Duran' where I always have Now Playing X of Y, it
also had remaining track time and the track name in large text. This
brought me back to trying all configurations of screensaver, display etc
and still no joy.

My ideal setting would allow the top left of the display to read Artist
/ Album (instead of Now Playing), top right would show remaining time
and main text would be track name.

Is this possible on the SB3 / or Boom ???

If so, how?

All help appreciated.
