Re: [slim] Connecting two rooms to one SB3?
I just want to update that I went with option #2 (optical out from SB3 to the study receiver), and it works perfectly. I can't notice any delay :-) -- orenb orenb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13367 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76684 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Thanks for the helpful comments guys. Phil Leigh;529385 Wrote: > Option 2 (coax) or 3 - NOT 1 Yes, I guess you're right. Both receivers have their own DAC's, but I'm sure the SB3 DAC is better. Now, wouldn't there be latency issues if one receiver gets an analog signal and the other gets digital signal that still needs to be converted? > The drawback here is actually not being able to play different SBS > streams on these two receivers, it will always be the same music. This isn't likely to pose a problem. > Using the first Receiver's tape out to feed the second Receiver would > also not be one of my choices. The main reason I was considering this is to have both receivers use the SB3 DAC. However, having the sound pass through another receiver and then though a relatively long cable should probably negate the benefit of the better DAC. I think I'll start with option #2. If I bump into latency issues I'll try option #3. -- orenb orenb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13367 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76684 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Connecting two rooms to one SB3?
I currently have two SB3 units - one in the living room and another in the bedroom. I'd like to have the music in my study synced to the rest of the house, but I've given up on getting SoftSqueeze to sync properly. I don't want to buy another SB3, so the only alternative I can think of is to connect the SB3 in my bedroom to the receiver in the study using a long (~5M cable). I'd be happy to get some advise on which of the following options would be best: 1. Connect the RCA line-out of the SB3 to an RCA splitter, and then have two pairs of cables connected to each receiver (the one in the bedroom and the one in the study). 2. Connect the first receiver using RCA and the second one using either of the two digital line-outs in the SB3 (optical and coaxial). 3. Connect the SB3 to the bedroom receiver and then use one of the receiver's RCA out ports to connect it to the receiver in the study. Note that I intend to keep the SB3 in the bedroom, because I can control the SqueezeBox server from the PC in the study. I'd be happy to hear about any alternative options that don't require buying another SB3. Thanks! :) -- orenb orenb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13367 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76684 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

iPhone;352225 Wrote: > And here is my question. Why would anybody "WANT" to sync PC playback to > the quality playback of any of their Slim Devices? The PC playback quality is fine for my modest requirements. The sound card is only used as a digital output. It's connected to the S/PDIF input of my Harman/Kardon AVR-200 receiver, which drives a couple of Tannoy MX2 speakers. Not audiophile gear by any means, but good enough for my workroom. If the SB3 hardware can do it, then why can't a good sound card? I'm not happy about spending hundreds of dollars just to be able to get my PC to sync properly. [slim] What sound card should I use to get accurate sync between SB3 and SoftSqueeze?
My current cards (on-board and SB-Live) typically can't pull it off. Is there a card, preferably an inexpensive one, that can? I'm using SqueezeCenter 7.2 and SoftSqueeze 3.7. [slim] Is it possible to use the Alarm Clock with SqueezeCenter?
I'd like to use songs stored on my PC for the Alarm Clock, but under Alarm Sound I can only find SqueezeNetwork content. Is there any way around it? Thanks!
