Re: [slim] Pre-Announcement: ickStream Music Platform
Hello there, looking forward to seeing where this leads to ! Since I'm mostly listening to local music, I understand I won't be the primary target, but that's not something frozen. And, juste like others here, I'm concerned about what will happen when my SB harware comes to fail. So here are my needs and current use of my system : - 1 sb3 (still branded slimdevices, hence my concern...) currently rigged to a set of not-so-bad speakers, and so turned in a kind of boom, mainly use in kitchen or bathroom. - 1 computer running squeezeslave and moose for the UI, connected to my main living room amp I'd like to try and buy a couple of touches (or SB3) from ebay, to be able to install something permanent in kitchen and bathroom, and maybe to connect to main amp instead of computer But I could imagine moving to another system (Software/Hardware). Concerning my song selections (I was hesitating to post in Erland's poll about playlists, but it seems better to do it here) : I'm currently using MusicIP/Sugarcube, (thinking of trying out SmartMix too), Erland's Dynamic Playlists, TrackStat, and I also did some tests on setting up my own smart selection system, based on custom tagging (like mood / tempo / feeling ...) and retrieved with CustomBrowse / selected with SQL Playlists. I also use a set (maybe 20) of static playlists (like Cover songs, Road Mix Day, -/Night both transfered to my car audio, ...) and what I most missed in SBS/LMS, was the ability to easily add any song (including, but not only, the currently playing track) to any of these playlists, without having to load this target playlist and/or loose my current track selection. I do use Playlist Manager that allows to do this using the add... button, but somehow I'm not altogether satisfied. PS : I registered as potential beta tester, but I might not be very useful here. On the other hand, I may be able to help with translation to french, if needed. Re: [slim] ReplayGain manual adjustment
OK, thanks Rick. Actually, I'm really not comfortable with foobar. I tried again, but that's not the point, because as I said, I did change the values... I finally found out why SqueezeCenter was still seeing and applying the original value : I modified the replaygain values in the ape tag. But for this album, the values where also present in the ID3v2 tag, and this one (still unmodified) was read by SC. So I removed these redundant infos. I'm going to check my other files, and take some time to clean everything up, just in case... -- Stan Pulsar Stan Pulsar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6669 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71696 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] ReplayGain manual adjustment
Hi, and thanks for your answers. ShadowWar, the ReplayGain played files are quiter to allow enough dynamics. Generaly, players implementing ReplayGain (e.g. Winamp, ...) support proceed the other way, they apply a -6 dB gain to files without gain tags. Rick, I didn't try Foobar recently, but when I once did I noticed that when I changed a single tag it messed up the others (I use characters with accents, and those didn't survive the process) Anyway, as I say, I did change the values in the tags. The problem was, SC didn't seem to heed these changes, and managed to find the original values... But where ? -- Stan Pulsar Stan Pulsar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6669 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71696 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] ReplayGain manual adjustment
Hi there, I have a couple of albums where the replaygain volume is a bit low... (I use mp3gain to set it) I decided to increase it by 1dB (track and album) I changed the values of the ape tag containing the info, using mp3tag (also tried with winamp's tag editor) But SqueezeboxServer (7.4.0) won't take these changes into account... it still shows (and uses) the initial values of the first mp3gain scan. I tried to look for new and changed files, then erase db and rescan, with the same result... Why is this happening ? What tag does SBServer read ? If the whole db has been erased, where do these persistent values come from ? And anyway, is this the good way to manually adjust replaygain values ? [slim] Re: Some MusicIP 'brains-out-blowing' problems
Annnd. nope. I eventually rescaned to set stats back to 'full count' (13018 by 248 artists), but after a while (and probably the nightly scan), they decreased again to 13013 songs by 229 artists. So the trackstat settings for minimum songs by artist/album... are not responsible for this strange behaviour. This is getting repetitive. -- Stan Pulsar Stan Pulsar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6669 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31894 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Some MusicIP 'brains-out-blowing' problems
Well, I'm feeding this post all by myself... I think I've find out why the stats would decrease... I checked which artists where missing, and they all have only a few tracks, no entire album. So I went in the settings to find if something could be responsible for this behaviour, and I did find such an option in the (newly installed) trackstat plugin. There are minimum numbers of songs for an -artist -album to be shown, and a minimum duration for the songs. I'll see if this sets things back to MM matching values. -- Stan Pulsar Stan Pulsar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6669 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31894 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Some MusicIP 'brains-out-blowing' problems
Well, I checked this too. But I've 13 non-mixables tracks in MM, and only 5 tracks not shown in SS. And this certainly doesn't explain the 19 artists missing. I checked what artists were missing (I only found 18, but that maybe my mistake, reading 2 lists of about 240 names) and they are artists with only a few songs and no album of their own. For the moment the stats in SS didn't go back to full values, nut I decided to let go and not rescan, to see my nightly scheduled scan will set this right. -- Stan Pulsar Stan Pulsar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6669 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31894 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Some MusicIP 'brains-out-blowing' problems
Hello there ! First, I'm sorry if the questions I'll ask here have some kind of answer somewhere, but I've been trying to get this work for 3 days now, diggind deep in both this forum and musicip's (unsuccessfully as you might guess) and I really need to know if it's worth struggling further. I run SS 6.5.1 and MusicIP 1.7.1 on win XPsp2. SS using MM, and 'blank' music folder setting. I keep MM running as GUI, because in the headless app there's no way to set exclusions (disabled tracks, books, ...) and in SS there's no way to forget about unchecked songs, like when using iTunes. There's one problem with MM-GUI's API service randomly stopping, but I posted on musicip forums about that. Let's see. Just to settle this, I've also checked all what follows in headless mode with whole SS cache deleted, so this wouldn't be an answer. What I want to expose here is the erratic behaviour of this fantastic but capricious couple of apps. My stats, shown in MM : 13002 songs (12989 mixables), 248 artists, 840 albums, 34 genres. When SS first scans, everything matches. (except albums, but that's ok since both apps don't handle my [n/a] tags the same) But then, songs went down to 12997, and later on, after a short MM/SS shutdown/reopen (in right order), back to 13001 (!) but this time with only 229 artists... In top of that, trying to create a mix doesn't always work... Sometimes (when trying from webUI) it creates an empty list. When trying from the remote, it shows 'MusicMagic Mix (1 of 50)' but keeps repeating the same song (must be the same 'empty list' symptom). Maybe this won't work while playing, I remember having stopped the song once, retried and got it to work. This whole flood to say that using this combination can be a real hassle, but the mixing possibilities are huge. But my music is on a local server, so I really need this to work from the remote or the webUI (on another computer) without continually having to physically access the server to restart, rescan or whatever. So any advice by people managing to master this would be hihgly welcomed. -- Stan Pulsar Stan Pulsar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6669 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31894 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Stan Pulsar;172327 Wrote: Maybe this won't work while playing, I remember having stopped the song once, retried and got it to work. Well, after a few more tries, this seems to be correct. So it would be a nice feature to keep playing a track and being able to lauch a mix 'up to come'. And BTW, when displaying 'now playing' it would be easier to have this option just after a right arrow hit, just like 'add to favorites' (I already proposed this in the SS7 whishlist post) Because navigating right, then twice down to show album, then right again to show same track but with the littel 'm' then long 'play' to start mix, this isn't quite handy. -- Stan Pulsar Stan Pulsar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6669 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31894 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Let's here some suggestions for SlimServer 7
Oh, and here's another one I forgot: I recently switched from iTunes to MusicIP Mixer as a source for the SS scan. (those 2 are BTW still in sync) In the iTunes settings, we had the ability to ex- or include unchecked songs. It would be great to be able to do the same with disabled MMM songs. (Sorry if this is already possible, I couldn't figure out how) -- Stan Pulsar Stan Pulsar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6669 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26874 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Let's here some suggestions for SlimServer 7
OK I will not go through all the big 'headlines' features that were suggested in the 27 first pages (libraries, playlists, ...) (ps, am I doing it?) - showing ratings would be great, and being able to use them for browsing, or f.i. for filtering a random mix, ... - an easier way to launch MusicIP mixes from SB would be nice. maybe I'm doing this wrong, but it's not altogether obvious how to proceed when listening to a song. Maybe an option taking place just below 'add to favorites' when pressing right arrow? like 'create musicip mix' or whatever... - an easier way to sync/de-sync two players. a. from the webUI side : no more 'player settings''audio''sync with...' but something on the main menu, perhaps in the plugins section b. from the box side : something similar to the grabplaylist plugin, allowing to choose any running and playing device and hit 'sync !' (maybe with a 'resume' function that would not start the track over again) -- Stan Pulsar Stan Pulsar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6669 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26874 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
