[slim] SB Classic ( sentral third of the screen brighter the left/right) ?
Hi all ! I have 2 sb classic for many years ( 6 or 7) which have been worked flawlessly all this time. Couple of days ago, I paid attention, that on one of them a cehtral third on the screen is a little brighter then left and right thirds ( I am not sure it's exactly thirds , look like one). It doesn't bother me , but I wonder if it's a sign that screen might die soon. Has anybody else expereinced similar problem ? Is it software/hardware related ? Has anybody managed to get spare screen and change it ( I hope it will not come to it though) sl789's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5667 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96465 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Warning ! squeezeslave-7.5.1-9211_all.deb caused problems all over Ubuntu 10.10
I did a colossal mistake installing squeezeplay_7.5.1-9211_all.deb on Ubuntu 10.10. Suddenly, I started having problems all over the OS in absolutely unexpected places (for example I couldn't play .avi files in Movie Player, applications menu got screwed etc.). In addition, the package caused the problems all over OS (Movie player stopped working etc). After purging the package everything returned to normal. I searched thru threads and found at least one other person describing similar problem ( garbled screen ). I run Ubuntu 10.10 on Dell XPS 410 for many months without problems at all. squeezebox server 7.5.4 works flawlessly with two SB3 boxes ( 7.5.2 worked great as well.) [slim] Order of playing ntracks in an album - by track numbers or title names ?
Hi ! Re: [slim] Help needed : SB3 disconnect from SlimServer
Hi ! First, thanks a lot for advices. I've just checked DHCP settings on D-Link DI-624 (BTW I have set static DHCP where fixed IP is assigned to each MAC). The lease time is 1 week (maximum allowed by setting) , but I'll check next time. I don't think it's a problem since SqueezeNetwork connection is fine. Regarding laptop connectivity - I'll check next time when disconnect happens, but let's assume it loses connectivity for some reason and then it restored, I think players will reconnect automatically. The fact is that when I see players are disconnected - all I need to do is to stop and then start SlimServer on the laptop - after it players reconnect by themselves - I don't need to do anything. Hi Azinck3 ! Used uour advice pointing my Palm T|X to the address- works like a breeze. Thanks a lot for advice. Those forums are as best as SB3 itself regarding quality of help and speed of response. Regarding ideal solution which I would like to see (I know ideal is unreachable) is multizone (2 or 3 zones) , centrally located SB with no screen, just box, connected to multizone amp and separate wireless screen modules which you can place in different locations to control different zones on SB. Sort of like multiline, multihandset phone. As one of participants mentioned there is no need to operate high quality amp to listen to BBC news enogh just a pair of powered speaker. It's true - for low quality Internet stream, but SB3 also have capability for high quality playback and to enjoy it on need a decen amp and speakers -- sl789 sl789's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5667 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24620 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Azinck3, you might be right about multizone issue, digital content is much easier to distribute and there is no degradation in quality over distance. Running speaker/s-video wires it's indeed a pain and if they are of decent quality it might cost so much it's OK buy just another source/sources instead. I still don't know cost-wise what is cheaper - 1 high quality multizone amp like Denon 5805 with 4 zones or 4 decent single zone amps. When I bought my Onkyo/Integra DTR-7.4 with second zone couple of years ago I thought about one box solution. I am not sure if I do the same now - it's a good quality amp and I like it but may be now after those second zone issues (BTW there is no digital signal to Zone 2) I would consider two separate amp. -- sl789 sl789's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5667 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24620 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] I am sure this issue was raised thousends times ...
Is it possible to modify SB3 to shadow it's screen output on TV screen ? I do realize that not having video output on SB3 boosts the sales (one need to by unit for each room rather then plug it into multizone amp) so slimdevices as a company might be not happy with it and that's why it's not on the unit. I have 2 Zones amplifier, speakers, TV set and infrared extender in the bedroom. I very much enjoy my SB3, but kind of reluctant to shed another 300$ for second unit and run wires all the way back to amp. It's possible of course to have some control of SB3 without seeing the screen using numbers on keypad (that's what I am doing now) but it's limited to using faworites and music files stored on computer and one can't browse internet radio stations -- sl789 sl789's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5667 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24620 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: FLAC playback problem, any opinion ?
Strangely, after I did full rescan, problem disappeared and it plays normally now. After I encoded it with FLAC, it appears immediately in Browse Music, so I didn't need to rescan initially. -- sl789 sl789's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5667 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24529 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] FLAC playback problem, any opinion ?
Hi all ! I used EAC and then FLAC (version 112a) to encode a classic CD (Murray Perahia - Bach Keybord concerto #3,5,6,7) One of the flac files has playback problem both on my SB3 and soft squeeze (it plays for 5 minutes of total 7 then jump to next part) It plays perfectly OK on Winamp. I am new to Flac and wonder if somebody experienced simular problems with other CDs. Is it a way to check flac file correctness ? I have the latest version of firmware (bought SB3 2 weeks ago and upgraded firmware immediately) -- sl789 sl789's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5667 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24529 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] any recommendation for Hard Drive Enclosure
Hi All ! I was wandering if anybody can recommend good 3.5 hard drive enclosure which also would work with Linux. I would like to put my 800CD to FLAC (just bought SB3). I use slimserver on my laptop which works perfectly, but I have only 60G drive. So I am thinking about bying FireWire/USB2 enclosure and Internal harddrive 300/400G capacity to keep it. In the future I hope to use it with this little Linksys NAS whicg can ran slimserver (since Linksys NAS) run Linux I think enclosure shoud have linux driver I checked one (MadDog FireWire/USB2.0) but it doesn't compatibel with Linux I'll appreciate advices -- sl789 sl789's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5667 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24261 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
