The context menu and all menus is completely controlled by the Squeezebox Server. Just wanted to chime in with my appreciation for both the sale you are currently conducting and the quality of your app. Just purchased squeezepad yesterday and spent a good part of the day playing with it. I should start by saying I have had ipeng on my iphone for quite some time now and have used it exclusively to control my squeezebox. It too is a very good app and I considered purchasing it for my ipad also but when I saw your sale I could not resist. Glad I didn't. Both apps have their strengths and I am happy to have one on each device. The speed and simplicity of squeezepad is certainly very much appreciated. Essentially involved zero learning curve for myself and the rest of the family. Within 5 minutes of looking at the app my 10 year old son had mastered it and was rocking the house with his favorite classic rock. One question I have (and I asked of Pippen of ipeng fame also) is a limitation that I think is on Rhapsody's part and not the app but I will ask anyway. I have a great deal of playlists already composed in my Rhapsody library. Is there anyway in squeezepad to take individual songs off those playlists and add them to my queue? Currently I can get the whole list to display but holding down on an individual song does not present the option to do anything with it. I realize I can load the whole playlist and then delete what I don't want to hear but some of my playlists are quite long and removing 50 or 100 songs is quite tedious. Thanks for any help you can give me and once again job well done. Version 1.7.5 finally got reviewed by Apple Here is the list of enhancements - alphabetic index-bar now works again with the beta 7.6 Squeezebox server - finetuning of alphabetic index-bar: letters with diacritics (É, Á etc) don't start new sections. More finetuning done on the Swedish, Norwegian and Danish alphabet with correct handling of Å, Ä, Æ, Ø and Ö - the Settings menu was extended with a menu-item to rescan your music library. No need to start the web-interface anymore after you added songs to your library. - SqueezePad registers a custom URL on your iPad and can be started with 'squeezepad://'. This can be used to integrate SqueezePad into other remote control applications. - improved menu loading: on rare occasions the menu didn't load when selecting a player the first time As always: if anything is not working as you expect don't hesitate to contact me here or at support(at)squeezepad.com. Hi Webkemmi, it's unfortunately missing right now when you use the 7.6 server, as Logitech changed the protocol a little bit. There is an update fixing this issue already waiting for Apples Review. I uploaded it already on June 4th, Apple change the status to 'In Review' on June 9th. I have absolutely no clue what they are doing so long :(, asked them yesterday about it, but got no answer *sigh* See me cursing about that review process ... This workaround works well on real Squeezeboxes (Boom, SB2, etc). However, it does not work when using the iPad / SqueezePad itself as the playback device. The file handle remains open in this case, even after powering off the iPad completely. The Squeezeserver setting to stop the track on pause only works for a real Logitech device and not for the ipad. It doesn't apply when trying to set it for the iPad. I guess I'll just have to make sure I always play a track until the end and not pause mid track when using the iPad as playback device. Hi Dave, I never considered that a user needs to completely stop playback, so right now it's not possible in SqueezePad. There is a workaround for your problem though: if you enter the Web-Interface of your server and then go to the settings, there is an option 'Power On Resume' under Player->Audio. Here you can configure, that your player will stop, when you power off the device. Powering Off is two taps in SqueezePad: Home Menu button on the bottom left and then the corresponding menu item. Hi, I have purchased SqueezePad and am very happy with it - it is an excellent app and the best way I have found to manage my Squeezebox. I have one question / issue. Is there a way to completely stop playback of a file using SqueezePad? Hitting the pause button on the playback screen pauses it ok, however, I can't find a way to actually stop playback. Holding the pause button down doesn't seem to do anything. I use a low power Linux box to run Squeezecentre with an external USB powered HDD. When a track is paused, it still keeps a file handle open to the file (visible using lsof). As a result, the USB drive does not power down. The only way I can stop the file completely is to walk to the Squeebox Boom itself and hold the pause key to stop playback completely. Powering off the Boom (from either SqueezePad of the physical the power button on the Boom itself) has no effect. Thanks for your help. I've been using SqueezePad with the playback function since November and find it extremely useful. When I'm listening on the iPad I often use Splashtop Remote Desktop to connect to my PC. Once connected, the playback quietens then disappears. It also does this when I switch to a web page with sound, e.g. tvcatchup. I suspect this is because the iPad is switching its sound input source to the remote PC or web page. There don't appear to be any iPad or Splashtop settings to change this behaviour and I was wondering if there is any way this could be controlled by SqueezePad? SqueezePad 1.7.3 finally made it to the AppStore. The biggest improvement/change/bugfix is that SqueezePad is now compatible with version 7.6 and 7.5.4 again (lets see and wait how long). Logitech made me get some more gray hair in March. One change breaking SqueezePad after the other was introduced (some changes even affected iPeng for a while). You can review the timeline in my blog (http://www.squeezepad.com/2011/03/problems-with-beta-versions-of-squeezebox-server/) To be fair: one could argue that most of this was due to bugs in SqueezePad (which were not visible before as previous server versions just didn't use all features they were sort of allowed to use). Well I'm still a bit grumpy that some of these changes also happened on the maintenance version 7.5.x but then again I'm happy that everything is resolved now! Version 1.7.2 adds the following enhancements: - a small favorites button now appears on the bottom of the left menu, giving you fast access to your favorites from every menu - playback now supports native FLAC decoding: saves a lot of bandwidth when you have a FLAC library - gapless playback: when you have a playlist, Squeezepad already starts to download the next song in the background. As you are used from your Squeezebox one song then starts right after the other without any gaps - playback synchronization support: yes you can sync the iPad now to another Squeezebox and they will start their streams (almost) simultaneously. This is one of the most annoying things about that review system: that you have no way to contact users leaving comments. I'm seeing the same: for some reason most people writing bad comments don't even try to contact you for help. It's not so much about the bad comments (in the long run you can't avoid some and it doesn't matter if there are enough good ones) but often it's stuff where you immediately see that with a simple hint (like e.g. RTFFAQ or RTFAppDescription) you could help them solve their problem and make another user happy but there is no way you can do that... Just got round to trying this. The music playback on my iPad is a great feature! Unfortunately the sync. is badly broken for me - is this a known issue? I've been trying it synced to my SB Radio & classic (both individually and all together). I can't get anywhere close to sync. When I first tried it with my radio, I played all the way through one track with the music only coming from the iPad. The radio showed the correct artwork and play symbol, but no audio. Once it moved onto the next track, the radio started playing but many seconds out. I'm now trying it synced with my SB classic, but I can only seem to get one of them (classic or iPad) playing at a time. Also, when the iPad is playing and synced, the iPad player's pause control has no effect, though "next" and "previous" do. I get 1.5Mb/s upload now, and it's moving to 5Mb/s in May, so it should be OK :) I purchased it anyway, as it's nice to have local access to music on my ipad, and you have the best support for file types - I don't need to install Lame, native flac will be good too. I know of one user who was able to connect via 3G to his local library, but had big buffering problems. He didn't try bandwidth limiting of the server yet though (one can configure, that the server will transcode everything to mp3 of a certain bitrate for a specific player). If you do figure out how to decode FLAC natively on the iPad I suggest you spinoff another app to allow people to play locally stored (on iPad) FLAC files. I suspect there's lots of people who wish they could play FLAC on their iPods and iPads - including me! Well done! I'm trying the test drive right now and it's working well. Just a couple of hiccups when trying to switch tracks rapidly...what you would expect given the transcoding that has to happen server-side. So...how much more work to make the flac decoding happen client-side? I'm not complaining, mind you. A (windows) server indeed handles WMA transcoding for local files and it's good to know that this also works automatically for Napster. I did a quick search about WMA decoders, but didn't get any far. Also I need to read into licensing issues, maybe as with mp3 there are still licensing fees which might apply before I can support it natively. Just tried Napster using my SBserver, and probably because of transcoding, it works fine. I do find that occasionally that both Napster and BBC IPlayer seem to require a touch of the stop and start control to stream. I wouldn't say that Squeezey and SqueezePad work the same. Squeezey only supports mp3, so the LAME codec needs to be installed on the server - and anything must go through the CPU intensive mp3 encoding. SqueezePad support a lot more formats natively (and I'll implement native FLAC in some later version anyway). FLAC to PCM decoding (i.e. SqueezePad) is much more lightweight than FLAC decoding and mp3 encoding (i.e. Squeezey). Also - as written - Squeezey doesn't support internet-radio (which needs some special treatment, as the iPad mp3 decoder alone cannot handle all streams). And none of the other Apps can operate with MySqueezebox.com alone. I'll look into Napster soon, don't have an account myself but that's what the testing is for. I already updated all descriptions this morning that Napster and Rhapsody right now are not working. Sorry to anyone who wants to stream these right now. For Napster I still have hope - and for Rhapsody AndyG destroyed my hope. iPad playback -- a brilliant new feature! I've tested it on my local music library (.flac, .mp3, .m4a,.wma), Internet radio, Sirius Radio, last.fm, and Slacker; all are good. Unfortunately, Pandora requires a subscription to play to the iPad, and Rhapsody doesn't allow playback at all: "This player does not support Rhapsody. A Squeezebox2 or higher is required." I realize that this is a Rhapsody limitation, and nothing can be done to change it. Still, well worth the upgrade price. Today is the last day where Apple releases updates to the AppStore ... and tell you what: SqueezePad 1.7.0 slipped through in the last minutes - must be christmas - and I am so very excited ! Now SqueezePad brings you a very special new feature: Music-Playback directly from your iPad. After a lot of really hard work now your iPad becomes a little Squeezebox on its own. Unlike other Apps out there, SqueezePad is able to stream: - your local music - internet radio stations - songs from your Apps like Last.FM or WIMP. - stuff from MySqueezebox.com You find this feature as an in app purchase (half the price of SqueezePad) in the players menu. Just hit the 'Activate iPad Playback' button and you can either test the feature 15 minutes each day or buy it directly. As my beta testers and I cannot test all music streams and files of the world I definitely recommend testing first ;-) - if any of your preferred streams doesn't work please contact support so that we can find a fix for that! The following music formats are directly supported: mp3, aac, alac, wav, aiff, pcm. With the help of your Squeezebox Server you can also stream FLAC and OGG to your iPad (the server will convert them to either WAV or MP3, based on your server settings). WAV works out of the box, for mp3 you'll need to install the LAME codec. If your Squeezebox Server runs on a Windows machine even WMA-files are possible without problems! Spotify right now unfortunately isn't working, but Triode is working on a solution already, which will be available next year (I heard a prototype is working already :D ) With iOS 4.2 (you did upgrade already, didn't you) you will get even more convenience: Your iPad will continue to play music even when you leave the App. Please be aware, that when you stop your music for more than two minutes, iOS will still suspend the App. You will need to enter the App again to start some new music. You can also control playback outside the App via the 'iPod Controls'. Double tap the home-button of your iPad and then swipe right - here you can control volume or skip tracks as well. Other things changed in this version: - when showing coverart, embedded art is now preferred over album art.
