If this is a wider issue, i.e. you want to use your pre-amp for your TV / DVD etc, then you might want to invest in a universal learning remote - it makes the process much more seamless. I use the Harmony 880, which works amazingly well; pushing one button turns on my amp, turns on the squeezebox, and switches the amp to the right input. Hitting another button turns off the squeezebox, turns on the DVD player and TV, and switches the amp input to DVD. It's a bit spendy, but you can search online for deals, and there are other threads in the forums comparing cheaper harmony models (they all have similar functionality, just different packaging / form factors). And of course there's a world of other universal remotes out there. Cheers, Geoff ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

If the preamp doesn't have a remote in, you'll have to buy an IR Blaster. If you're using analog out, this won't work, unfortunately, because you can't set analog volume fixed. I don't think that's true about IRBlaster and analog volume control http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?IRBlaster The volume on the SB2/SB3/Transporter is set to a fixed value as soon as an IR command is selected for either volume up and/or volume down. This fixed value can be changed directly in the IR Blaster file itself if needed. Open the Plugin.pm file with an editor and find the following line in the 'Global variables' section: my $gFixedVolume = 50; # Volume set (in SB2/3) if volup or voldown is used (max is 100) Change the value to your liking, save the file and restart SlimServer. And if you're not using IRBlaster, you can fix the volume at any level you'd like using my VolumeLock plugin. -Peter -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim BlankSaver BottleRocket FuzzyTime SaverSwitcher SleepFade StatusFirst VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37112 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Changing the remote's functionality
The remote is very basic and its function can't be changed any more than you could use your DVD player remote to control your preamp. It is not a universal or learning remote. However, if your preamp has a remote in jack you could use a submini cable to connect the remote out of the Transporter to the remote in of the preamp, then configure the IRBlaster plugin to send volume up/down signals to the preamp when a volume up/down event happens on the Transporter. The Transporter will still try to respond to the volume up/down, but if you're using the digital volume out with volume fixed nothing will happen. [slim] Changing the remote's functionality
