Re: [slim] Controller scratch

2008-04-15 Thread casonbang

Thanks for this tip!

I've had my Duet for a week or two and hadn't noticed it yet, but sure
enough scratch marks were developing on the back.

I cut a 1/2 inch strip of black sticky-back felt wide enough for the
back and stuck it on the inside of the stand with just a tiny bit
covering the top edge.

Looks fine and as a bonus the remote slides in a little smoother and
has a more solid feeling in the stand.

Actually I'm extremely disappointed with the front face ptotection .
I've only had my Duet for 2 weeks and have many scratches. I would have
thought that 1) the front face be made from glass , extremely scratch
resistant or 2) use a scratch resistant coating or 3) offer face
 protectors or a case etc.
You could view this as going through an initial phase of hoping it will
stay looking good as new. It's a natural psychological response to
anything you buy. The reaction to the first blemish is always one of
disappointment.

But nothing stays in mint condition forever. After a while, objects
acquire a patina of use, and their scuffs and dings become an intrinsic
part of their character - almost a mark of their usefulness. So once
your Controller is smothered in scratches, it'll be no big deal.

Most of what is you have said is true, but I don't subscribe to the
attitude that After a while, objects acquire a patina of use, and
their scuffs and dings become an intrinsic part of their character -
almost a mark of their usefulness.. Look at the iPhone, it has a
glass front face. It was designed for daily interaction especially in
the front face region. I have 3 SB3's and a Transporter, none of that
equipment has any scratches. Those devices weren't designed to be
portable/handled on a daily basis. I was just saying the front face on
the Duet's Controller could have been alot better. For instance the
clear front face could have been recessed to prevent surface scratches.
I already mentioned different materials, it just bothers me that I
handle my equipment with care and that the controller after week 2
looks terrible. I'm not looking forward to seeing what it will look
like after year 2.

I couldn't agree more. I'm not so bothered about the black casing but
the perspex display facia is just not up to the job. If mine continue
to scratch at the rate they have I will not be able to read the
displays at all in a years time, let alone two. The perspex is OK for a
device that does not get knocked around a lot but is the wrong material
for a hand held controller (especially one costing as much as the
Controller).

I am certain that Logitech will have to address this issue soon and
will start producing them with tougher perspex/glass. I just hope that
they supply the new display facia as a spare part and that it can be
easily replaced.

Now with all that said there is no way I'm parting with Duet, it's a
fantastic piece of equipment. I just wish the product design would have
matched the user interface.

[slim] Controller scratch

2008-03-22 Thread PSSO

My brand new Controller has already some scratches on the back and as
far as I can see, this is caused by the dock (charging station)
I have “modified” the dock a little bit (see the picture below).

I noticed this on mine as well. The bottom part of the battery cover is
pretty skuffed already. Not bothered about it though :)
