Great news! I suppose by Symbian, you mean S^3 (Not S60)? Either way,
this might just be what allows me to justify getting the N9, which,
sadly, otherwise seems like a hard thing to do.

I wish you success!

Thanks!

Squeezster (for Symbian) requires Symbian Anna or Symbian Belle.

Today the Nokia N9 version also made it to the Nokia Store.

OK,

on your PC, go to the Web UI on your browser (http://[serverIP]:9000),
to the lower-right you will find Settings -- Plugins tab.

At the bottom of the Plugins page, tick the box Show all 3rd party
plugins [x], click Apply. Then a plugin Tablet Skin should appear.
Tick the box and click Apply. SBS may want to restart, that's OK.

Now (still on your PC) you shold be able to go to
http://[serverIP]:9000/tablet. If it works, try it on the phone.
Bookmark the URL for convenience. Done.

Make sure you are trying to connect over WLAN, not mobile internet.
http://[serverIP]:9000 should work.

It works a lot better, however, by using the Tablet skin for the SBS
WebUI (3rd party plug-in). Also try the Opera Mobile (not Opera Mini!)
browser and see if you like it better. I'm using this on a C6-00 which
is pretty similar to yours.

Ask in case you need further instructions.

Sure, just take a look at the options via the web ui under Settings
Interface Web interface. There you have (as of 7.4.2):
- Default (the normal :9000 skin)
- Classic (the old skin)
- iPeng (not to be confused with the iPeng app)
- Fishbone (packs a lot of info on the screen)
- Nokia770 (already noted)
- handheld (already noted)
- Touch (like Nokia770, but often better for screens that aren't
exactly the same resolution as the N770)

Any can be invoked via the Settings menu as described above, or by
adding the name of the skin to the end of the server's URL.

Re: [slim] Controlling Squeezecentre with a Nokia phone

2010-02-27 Thread deadkenny

The plan in Nokia is all based around Qt. Symbian continues (and is now
open source) and the future Symbian^3 and Symbian^4 phones will be Qt
based, the latter I think far more.

The idea is that the general smartphones will be Symbian, the top end
range will be more likely Maemo (or now MeeGo). Both platforms run Qt
apps.

From a developer perspective, you don't have to develop specifically
for each individual OS which has always been the pain with Nokia (e.g.
having to do a version for S60 3.1, then 3.2, and 5.0). Just develop for
Qt, and the binaries are compatible across the OS range once the Qt core
is there. Might have to rebuild for Maemo though, and you may have to
add some customisations for the different experiences (screen sizes,
layouts and touch/non-touch).

P.S. You can do Qt now on S60 3.1, 3.2 and 5.0 phones. Check out the Qt
for Symbian demos and it just installs the core framework and a bunch of
apps. They work very well on my E72.

The plan also is to eventually support Qt apps in the Ovi Store, but
they need to be easy to install with all dependencies, and it's not
there yet.

Oh, and then outside of Qt, there's the WRT framework and I think
there's an Ovi framework. Not to mention you have the option of Java,
which is universal even with S40 phones.

Anyway, I'm planning to play about with Qt. If I manage to pick it up
and no one else has bothered I might look into a SqueezeCentre remote
control app of some kind as it's something I'd like, but I know nothing
about Qt at present so it's going to be a long way off. If someone's up
for starting an open source dev I'd be interested in helping out once
I'm up and running. My dev skills are more on the underlying C++ side
than GUI look and feel though (I'm a software developer, not an artist
:D), though the C++ is a little rusty as I've been doing C# for a few
years now. Now if we had Qt.Net on Symbian... :D

I see a small community growing here... that's great.

Due to a major differences in the GUI between Symbian and WM x.x. I'll
have to do quite some re-writing.
But I have looked into Symbian already, and I'll give it a go.

If it is do-able, we are talking 4 to 6 weeks.

Maybe - fortunately Nokia is offering a developing enviromnent for
free.
And I have already begun to create different layouts for the following
screens:

240x320
240x400
320x320

and multiples of theses

That's great news. I've just got a Nokia N97, so a symbian controller
would be great. The N97 and a few of Nokia's newer touch screen devices
use a 360x640 screen - any chance you could add a layout for such a
screen? None of the resolutions you've listed have the same aspect ratio
as a 360x640 screen. Of course, i understand that you're only just
starting development so something like this might be outside what's
initially achievable - just thought I'd put the request in. Thanks
heaps.
(oh and while I realise that you're offering SlimControl as freeware,
if you were accepting donations for a symbian version, I be happy to
send you a bit of cash).

Opera Mini won't work, as it exists outside your local network. That is,
the pages you view through Opera Mini are actually coming from the opera

Hopefully now Symbian/Nokia have started there own application store
(like Apple) a developer will be tempted to write an app. There is
already a '.NET app'
maybe this could be scaled down and converted to Symbian. I'm going to
knock up a N97 homepage widget this weekend but that will do nothing
more than display whose currently playing!

[slim] Controlling Squeezecentre with a Nokia phone

2009-01-30 Thread Mr_Sukebe

Please excuse my lack of knowledge on this, I did try searching for
info, but there wasn't much and it left me even more confused.

In short, I bought a snazzy Nokia 5800 today, which I'm guessing is
capable of controlling my SB. Squeezecentre is running on my XP PC.

I get the impression that I'll need to add an application (skin?) onto
the phone and configure it to address Squeezecentre. Is that correct?
Anyone got a mugs guide link to the process?

Thanks in advance.

I would imagine you need to connect your phone to your wireless network
and browse to your local squeezecenter, perhaps using the handheld or
nokia skin.
