No. But I've tried several times to click the send confirmation email
link on that page and never received an email. So that's probably my
issue.

I see no EDIT tab. If I click on the page source tab, I get this
message:

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:

The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups:

For some reason I'm also in the "Administrators" group, don't remember

A while ago I tried to figure out how to have ability to sign in and
edit WIKI but couldn't and assumed it was limited to certain folks.
Admittedly, I didn't spend a lot of time following up on this. I do

Yes, I realized that after posting the poll, I suggest that people who
feel it doesn't matter who host it:
1. Realize that the content might be lost the day Logitech decides to
shut it down.
2. Vote on the first option where it's hosted by Logitech if you feel
this doesn't matter.
3. Analyze why you haven't updated a wiki page during the last 6-12
months, basically why do you suddenly feel you want to update it if you
haven't done it during the last 6-12 months ?

There is no point having the wiki if we aren't using it and if we want
to use it we must be prepared to spend time to update it, which
obviously isn't the case at the moment because I checked in the wiki
history and there have barely been any updates during the last 6-12
months. Also, feel free to start updating wiki.slimdevices.com already
today because we should be able to copy the contents from it if we later
decide to create a community maintained wiki.

Point 1 is not a problem if the community maintains it because then we
can arrange so anyone that wants can get a daily/weekly backup of the
wiki database. It could possibly be worth to check if that would be a
possibility also if Logitech hosts it, but I personally doubt they would
be willing to arrange it unless they see that they can save some costs.

The thing is that I don't think we should take over the forum at this
time because Logitech is doing that great and people are still happy
posting in it, so based on this I don't think it's a good idea to take
over the whole domain.

The situation is different with the wiki where people seem to have lost
interest to add new information and maintain existing information, if we
decide to create a community maintained wiki we will check with Logitech
if it's possible to get the wiki database to make the transition a bit
easier. I'm not sure they will go for it but possibly there is a chance
if they can see that they can reduce some costs by shutting down
wiki.slimdevices.com after the transition.

As I mentioned in the other thread I've acquired a few potential domain
names we could use instead of slimdevices.com:

i just took a look at the wiki changelog. Heavy user creation spam.
*wow*

in any case the wiki needs maintenance, if used or not ;)

a wiki only makes sense if it is used. As the wiki is neither announced
by logitech (for tutorials) nor prominently here (for developer
informations) it makes not a lot of sense to me.

For me source code and the forum is the current information base. I only
update a few wiki pages from time to time if i happen to notice they are
out of date.

Since wiki.slimdevices.com is mediawiki, it should be easy enough to
dump the contents and move it over to wikia. This seems to be the most
reasonable way to for the information and start a community maintained
version.

It would be nice if we could get Logitech to release what's left of the
squeezebox system to the community. Maybe they'd be willing to give up
the slimdevices.com domain to the community.

[slim] Do we need an updated wiki ?

2013-01-17 Thread erland

Since the other thread I posted about a community maintained wiki got
pretty small interest, I thought I'd try posting a poll instead to see
if it's possible to find out a bit more about the interest.

The reason for the poll is that I've recently realized that we barely
maintain and update the wiki at http://wiki.slimdevices.com anymore. For
me personally, one reason to not spend significant time to update
information at http://wiki.slimdevices.com is that it's hosted by
Logitech and I'm a bit afraid that one day sometime in the future they
will just shut it down and all data would be lost. However, the problem
this causes me is that I'm starting to have a hard time to find certain
information because it's now spread in many different forum threads and
it's not always that easy to find which one that's most accurate.

The other thread was this one:
