I doubt whether the companies do endorse it... it's marketing that's out of their control and could cause all sorts of repercussions. For instance the renegade Sonos forum administrator guy who wrote that *unbiased* review is likely to encourage Slim afficiendos like Robin to write into their forums.. and others to make posts like his one: http://forums.sonos.com/showthread.php?p=54752#post54752 which of course will bring lots of posts from Sonos users on how good the product is . Re: [slim] Duet reviews posted at pcmag and cnet
Thing that caught my eye is the 'can't sync internet radio sources on multiple devices' - that is going to seriously turn off to a lot of customers that would want to use this for multi-room audio. Honestly, that really bothers me, too. And would keep me from buying multiple of these things. For instance, on my dad's Sonos I can listed to Sirius in the whole house in sync. Sonos is out of my price range right now, so somewhat of a moot point. But not being able to do that on the SqueezeBox side is an issue. > How bad is the lag time? It depends. It's over wifi, so it all depends on the latency in your wifi setup. When I'm far from my router, it can be a few seconds. Now that I've relocated a router to the same room, it's a fraction of a second - maybe about the same amount of time as it take to press-and-release the button. > "That said, the Controller's scroll wheel isn't quite as good as the > Apple version: it's an actual wheel, not the solid-state > touch-sensitive version on the iPod, and it lacks the iPod's > speed-sensitive ability to quickly jump up and down through long > lists." (from the CNet review) That seems like old information. Of course, 'not the solid-state, touch-sensitive' is a ridiculous point. So much design is patented/trademarked/etc that it's NOT an option, so making it a "design flaw" is well, not much of a point. It could however, be better. I kinda like the way my sansa mechanical wheel works, and it doesn't get all worn and glossy like some touch-sensitive, solid-state wheels I've seen :). The speed-up on scroll complaint just HAS to be old. It is very much accelerated in current builds. It's not perfect but easily something that can be adjusted over time. I think there is still some slop in the wheel control overall (doesn't always seem to be a consistent angle for each step, and occasionally seems to go one step in the wrong direction when starting a scroll) may be a bigger factor than the acceleration itself. -kdf ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Our understanding is that the volume lag they encountered was a bug that we've independently identified and fixed since then. Likewise, the acceleration as they experienced may not have been the latest algorithm. However the hardware they received was final. It's hard to strike the right balance between getting the review units out ASAP vs being able to provide the most stable, final firmware release. -- seanadams seanadams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44232 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Can some of the beta testers speak to the accuracy of these statements from the reviews? "The worst is an incredibly big lag time between pressing some remote-control buttons (Volume, for example) and their respective responses." (from the PC Mag review) How bad is the lag time?
