Re: [slim] LAME: where to put on OS X 10.10 and LMS 7.9
You can get a command-line version of lame for OS X by installing Macports: https://www.macports.org/ Once Macports is installed, open Terminal and enter Code: sudo port install lame to install lame. On my Mac Pro, this installs lame-3.99.5 in /opt/local/bin/lame. every once in a while i see a post from andy or someone at slim sayng that incomplete, corrupt, etc... files can make the SC scanner slower. i assume the main cause for mp3s is a bad LAME header? (not id3 tags, but a lame tag) does anyone know of a utility that scans your files and looks for problems that would result in the SC scanner being slower? there is a small app that displays lame headers but its manual. every so often using it i find a file with no lame header (that it can see anyway). i would have thought those files would be listed in the SC scanner log but that doesn't seem to be the case... i want SC scans to go as fast as they can, so any clarity as to what slows it down exactly and what fixes there are would be great. -- MrSinatra www.lion-radio.org using: sb2 & sbc (my home) / sbr (parent's home) - w/sc 7.3.3b - win xp pro sp3 ie8 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - 1tb wd usb2 raid1 - d-link dir-655 MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64323 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I use Lame to transcode my flac file to mp3 for streaming from home to work because my bandwidth can't support streaming flac. Transcoding is set on a per-player basis, and is by default set to not transocde. Hmm, I thought I had gotten Windows binaries there before, but you're right I don't see any Win32 binaries. [slim] Lame to throttle bandwidth in SqueezeCenter?
Hi, all. When I was using 6.5.x of SlimServer, there was a setting to have Lame limit the bandwith of MP3 files to help with streaming to a remote player. I can't find it in SqueezeCenter. [slim] LAME for Intel Macs
I just did a search and didn't find much on this. Has anyone found a version of LAME that runs on an Intel Mac? I'm watching Activity Monitor on my Intel server and EVERYTHING ELSE is native except for the LAME encoding, which takes 99% of one of the processors while it's encoding! I did find find a version at http://spaghetticode.org/lame/ but it's meant to be used with Audacity for encoding and doesn't really work when put in the LAME frameworks folder as I had hoped. Anyone else have a way around this? [slim] LAME Question
I'm trying to get AAC files to play on SB3. I read through the FAQ at Slim's website, and downloaded LAME 3.97. It's sitting in my desktop in the form of a .TAR file. How can I unpack this? [slim] Lame problem
This morning my SBG and SB2 were unresponsive - the time on the SB2 was static. I went to the server machine and I could see that I had a Windows Data Execution Prevention message for Lame. This must have been blocking the SlimServer code in such a way that the squeezeboxes didn't report server connection errors. I killed this and tried streaming flac->mp3 to my SBG again, which instantly caused the DEP message again. Yesterday I changed my windows settings for DEP to "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select", and only had "windows.exe" selected as a test to try to resolve another unrelated issue with my system. I switched this back to the usual "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" and rebooted. I still got DEP messages for Lame though. This was strange, as I have been using Lame with SlimServer for well over a year without problems. So I thought I'd reinstall Lame. I was previously using version Lame3.96Final. I went to sourceforge and found there is a newer version (lame3.97b2), so I installed that one (copied lame.exe and lame_enc.dll to C:\Windows). I noticed that the file sizes for the new version were substantially smaller. The problem has now gone away (although I did have a few stutters in playback that I didn't used to get - but that might not be down to Lame). What could have happened to Lame to suddenly cause the problem I've been seeing? What is the best version of Lame to use with SlimServer? I read the following (from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Lame_Encoder.htm): There is a bug in LAME MP3 Encoder 3.96 Final version that can cause skipping. We recommend you to download LAME MP3 Encoder 3.96.1 Stable or LAME MP3 Encoder 3.97 beta There is also a 3.98 alpha version. I find the most logical place to be the SlimServer\server\Bin\your_OS_here folder that is already present, and already holds third-party tools. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of kdf Sent: 22 August 2005 08:31 To: Slim Devices Discussion Subject: Re: [slim] LAME, where to put?
