Richer Sounds are sort of a special case, they specialise in buying up stock cheaply and selling it until they run out. It is probably just that they got a good price on a batch of Touches and that the promotional activity is just to make sure they get rid of their remaining stock. -- andynormancx Yes, it will. [slim] Logitech revamping their range?
I was in Richer Sounds Exeter branch a little earlier today enquiring about the availability of the Squeezebox Touch, and was told that it was an end-of-line product and that they couldn't get any more in. In fact the man I spoke to seemed to think that most of the Squeezebox range was in a similar position. Is this true? Are Logitech bringing out updated products soon? It seems a bit unlikely to me, although I've not been able to find any shop in Exeter that stock the Touch. Re: [slim] Logitech revamping their range?
Logitech doesn't talk about forthcoming products, and they don't seem to talk much about the future of their products. But I think the salesman you spoke to was probably misinformed, or making stuff up. The Radio and Touch appear to be selling pretty well, so it would be silly to pull the plug on them now. And Logitech just went through the hassle of recertifying the Duet Receiver after they had to change one of the internal components following the demise of one of their suppliers. I don't think they would have done the recertification or a new production run if they were planning to end the line soon. Looking over the longer term, however, it's easy for me to imagine Logitech not introducing anything new in the SB line. I think the Revue is more indicative of where their attention will be for the next few years. But this is all pure speculation on my part. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84377 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Logitech revamping their range?
Thanks for the info guys. I did think it somewhat odd that these products were end-of-line. I did wonder if there may be a replacement for the Transporter though as it doesn't seem to get mentioned on Logitech's website, and it's a huge jump in price from the Touch. I'm guessingt that Logitech aren't really interested in competing with the likes of Naim, Linn, Meridian etc in the serious audiophile stakes. The Touch looks like a great piece of kit, and quite possibly the most versatile internet radio device you can get. -- Nick_G Nick_G's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38427 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84377 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

You now have the transporter SE :-) but Touch is so new whey not wait and let it mature a bit. They do compete with the others with the Transporter SE and as a digital transport with Touch, it's good enough digital transport for anything. But they make real world products no cargo cult science involved . It's hard to get it anymore expensive than the TP without resorting to some vodoo logic to justify price and design of the piece. Re: [slim] Logitech revamping their range?
I didn't realise there was an 'SE' Transporter. What's the difference between that and the old one? I thought I read on here that the Transporter architecture is looking dated compared to the Touch. Can you play the new BBC HD Radio 3 stream on the Transporter? I also think it would make sense for Logitech to release a streamer that bridges the huge gap in price between the Touch and Transporter, maybe in the £5-600 price range. It could still have the nice touch screen but be more solidly built and look more like a hi-fi component. -- Nick_G Nick_G's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38427 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84377 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It could still have the nice touch screen but be more solidly built and look more like a hi-fi component. transporter SE is the same transporter minus that funky transnav wheel and actually a lover price :) 1500$ at logitech US that measn that it's eventually going to get cheaper elsewhere as logitech tends to be price leading on thier own products. CPU wise the architechture is a bit dated as no new DRM streamings shemes can fit in the firmware and no more native formats than it already has. The Touch can do AAC natively while a TP needs a server to transcode , so no AAC radio without a helping hand from a local server. But the typical TP user has a server that can transcode anything and has a huge collection of their own files not needing the bleeding edge in streaming radio services. Note that it does support all stuff available at mysqueezebox.com now but who knows in 2 years . It also has digital inputs so if the streaming parts get obsolete you still got a nice DAC ,. It also has wordclock input to be clock slaved to a DAC if used as a transport thast as god as it gets. Actually the law of diminishing returns kicks in hard at prices above where the Touch is ? A beefed up Touch at 2*price will it really be that much better ? If you also made a nice hifi like box that would eat most of the cost . Actually that nice shiny custom made box much super hifi comes in cost more than the manufacturer care to admit , bill of manufacturing can be more than the insides if whe are talking preamps and DAC's and CDP's Power amps sports a large transformer cast cooling fins that add costs. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE rear ch.
