Re: [slim] Making a Squeezbox Kid Friendly
bare in mind that 'look for new and changed music' will only pick up files that have a new modified time stamp, if you tagger doesn't change the time stamps (this is uaually an option, and a very useful one at that) then you will need to do a complete clear and re-scan. -- funkstar funkstar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2335 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32427 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Because her library is filtered on the comments tag containing her name, I found I had to rescan using 'look for new and changed music' in the standard Slim Server settings before any changes were reflected in her library. Re: [slim] Making a Squeezbox Kid Friendly
I am thinking of setting up something similar for other reasons. I am curious, when you say "rescan", do you have to do a full library rescan, or are you using the "rescan" for custom tags in the Custom Scan menu? Thanks to Erlands plugins and setup guide she now has a SB with 1 menu item that lists all the artists she wants. All I have to do to add something is put her name in the Comments tag of the files they appear after a rescan. You may also want to radically trim the menu options available. -- Mark Lanctot "It's like, you know, a New Age religion, but with better treble response." - Jon Heal Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32427 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Thanks Guys, Erlands wiki has details of setting up a kids Squeezebox using a couple of his plugins. I'll let you know how it goes. So I think I'd just create a 'Kids Music' folder in the top level and teach him/her to go there. It would be nice if you could put a 'Kids Folder' menu option in the top level menu and make it point directly to a certain subfolder/genre/artist whatever. Check Erland's custom plugins; The "Custom Browse" plugin could filter on genre, so you just add a "kiddo" tag to the genre for the albums she should listen to. But now I believe he just has released a "Multi Library" plugin... :) -- tommypeters SB3-->Meridian G68-->NuForce Ref8-->Bc Acoustique ACT A3 tommypeters's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6528 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32427 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Making a Squeezbox Kid Friendly
I've finally succumbed and put a spare SB1 in my daughters bedroom. I need to make it simple enough for a 7 year old to use and the most obvious way is to reduce the amount of music she has to browse to find what she wants. My idea was to run a second server on my server pc (if that's possible) with a different music dir and then put shortcuts to the music she want, in there. Any better ideads?
