2007-03-10 Thread Tristan

Hi,

Sorry for the delay. I've been away / had no time. OK The problem still
persists. Ive uninstalled AVG just in case. I have just installed Avast
Home edition 4.7. Im not sure the AV software iusnt a red herring but
this is a virtually clean insall now with hardly anything on this PC.
Its just used as a music server running XP Pro.

Just tried to play something. Here is the dubug code. Is this still
looking the same. Im mystified. Your help is appreciated. Thanks

Re: [slim] Radio Stations Playing but Music Files Arn't

2007-03-10 Thread Mark Lanctot

I believe in some other threads this happened when you played Internet
radio, then went back to your local collection.

I wish I could find those threads. I can't, but IIRC a workaround was
to reboot the player by pressing and holding the power button on the
remote.

Re: [slim] Radio Stations Playing but Music Files Arn't

Hi Mark,

Thanks again for responding.

My 2 players have been hard booted, soft booted, cuddle booted and
whispered to in to in tounges by sultry maidens (at great personal
expence..)

I've tried rebooting the PC then playing files or playing the files
then rebooting the PC Still no luck. I think (though you can never be
quite certain) that I've tried every combination of file / radio/
reboot / non boot / tickle stick play now.

Any other ideas or boot file combinations? I'll send champagne or beer
tokens whichever you prefer..

Cheers

LOL!

I was going to suggest a factory reset (unplug the power, press and
hold ADD and replug the power) but your log is indicating SlimServer is
having trouble transcoding. The process isn't working or isn't allowing
SlimServer to control it.

I think there were some changes recently regarding which decoder to use
for decoding AAC or Apple Lossless files. Unfortunately I believe it
was pre-6.5.1, so you should have it. Still, at this point, it
wouldn't hurt to try the latest nightly - what have you got to lose?

Re: [slim] Radio Stations Playing but Music Files Arn't

2007-03-10 Thread Tristan

Hmm, vexing isn't it. Worth a try though..

I downloaded the new version but it woudn't start. It said it was
starting but it just never did. Maybe there is a clue in that or maybe
there isn't

I uninstalled it. Rebooted the old PC and reinstalled your currrent
6.5. For some reason it decided it didnt like where my music files were
located and chose a directory that my music was not in.

So.. I moved my music to that directory (as I hadn't tried that one
yet) but it didn't work.

Radio is fine. FLAC recorded files are fine. Old files just still wont
play.

Next and a prize for the wittiest.

Cheers Mark.

Re: [slim] Radio Stations Playing but Music Files Arn't

2007-03-01 Thread Tristan

Hi,

This problem is still with me. Radio is fine. New recordings are fine.
All my music files recorded last year simply wont play.

The fix of replacing the socketwrapper did work... for a while then the
problem re-occured for no apparent reason.

So I 'repaired-re-installed' my copy of XP and re-installed slimserver
etc and that fixed it... and then it re-occured again nearly
immediately.

So I then re-stalled Win XP completely from scratch but the problem is
still there on the new install. It's absolutely vexing.

I've rolled back numerous full versions of slim server (and
socketwrappers)and it makes no difference.

I belive that its affecting all of the music files that were originally
recorded using ITunes (whih is 210 out of 214 albums! Music Files that I
recently added using FLAC / Winamp are fine as well as any radio
streaming

Any final suggestions as I really dont want to re-encode all my
albums.. ? especially as a good many of them came off CD's that left
with the ex I cant really ask to borrow them all again now can I.

If you problem is only with m4a files, then the maybe it is related to
the transcoding ?

The error in your log

Code:

  2007-03-01 23:29:32.5290 Pipeline reader connected
  2007-03-01 23:29:32.5379 readlen undef: (Unknown error)10054

This is typical of security s/w (e.g. Firewall AV) blocking
socketwrapper from working. The Ian Cook revised socketwrapper fixes
this problem for many users but sometimes it is a case of adding
entries in the security s/w.

What security s/w are you using ? Norton, NOD32, McAfee, ZoneAlarm ?

Re: [slim] Radio Stations Playing but Music Files Arn't

2007-03-01 Thread Tristan

Hi, Thanks,

Im using none of those. I'm using (Grisoft)AVG Free edition. Which I
was using before this happened. I haven't installed any other blockers
though of course Win XP is using its firewall.

As I said before though it may not be relevant to your point some files
eg. new ones taken from CD using Flac are working.

Closer?

Re: [slim] Radio Stations Playing but Music Files Arn't

2007-03-01 Thread bpa

The following says that slimserver decided this file
C:/Documents and Settings/Tristan/My Documents/My Music/Base Ibiza 2004
(Disc 2)/2-12 Dancin (Fuzzy Hair Mix).m4a
is to be treated as a mov type file and should be played in Flac
format. To play it requires that it is played using the application
mov123.exe and the output piped (implicitly using socketwrapper) into
Flac.exe to create a flac stream output.

Code:

Files which need transcoding using socketwrapper will not play because
something is stopping socketwrapper.

Can you be more specific about the version of AVG software you have
installed ?

Thanks Mark I will try that tonight. It did stop working before I
installed the new server though and before the XP rollback.

[slim] Radio Stations Playing but Music Files Arn't

2007-02-19 Thread Tristan

Hi,

This is a bit weird and I'm sure its probably a Windows XP / OS fluck
up but do any of you have any ideas please?

All was fine Ive had no problems innearly a year and have two
squeeseboxes. The other day I foolishly installed a new version Windows
of Media Player on my PC. Anyway I coudn't get it to do what I wanted so
I uninstalled it . Since that point Ive had no problems playing radio
stations but if I try to play a music file slimserver says its playing
it and the squeezbox shows its title and scrolls 'now playing, track
title ect' Only it isn't actually playing? Its just holding it at the
start of the track and doing nothing in silence.

I have taken my PC back to an earlier restore point and just in case
installed the new version of slimserver (6.5.1) and updated firmware on
my slimservers. I've even done a special dance but no luck.

Its really annoying. Has this or anything similar happened to you?

I think something similar was happening here:
