[slim] Re: Can Headphone Port be used to receive IR commands
In the end, I just opened the case, split open the Ir emitter and put the IR emitter LED inside the case. It works a treat!! -- Bruce Hartley Bruce Hartley's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24657 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Can Headphone Port be used to receive IR commands
I'm looking to do the same thing. My remote transmits RF and an RF receiver then transmits IR through IR emitters. Can the IR output of the receiver be connected to the headphone port on the squeezebox. if the headphone port can be made to transmit IR, surely it could be made to receive IR. Otherwise as noted above, I will have to put an IR blinker on the front of the squeezebox and it won't look pretty. Hi there The current SB2/3 firmware only supports either headphone out or IR out. But feel free to file an enhancement request on bugzilla. Cheers Felix -- fcm4711 Everyone said: This cannot be done. But one day someone came along who didn't know about this - and did it. [slim] Re: Can Headphone Port be used to receive IR commands
No, but the built in IR receiver inside the SB can. If you simply want to repeat the IR signal back through the blaster there is a walk through in the Wiki. If you want to trap the IR command received to do things to your SB this can be achieved by mapping the appropriate code in the slim_devices_remote.ir file. If you want to capture the IR signal and send it somewhere else (e.g for home automation) you can use the xPL plugin to transmit the received IR codes to another xPL enable device. Lots of options, except mounting the IR receiver physically remote from the SB. There are plenty of commercial repeaters that will allow you to do that as well. I don't see the point of extending the IR receiver of the SB a few feet, since you want to be able to see the unit's display anyway. If it's a situation where you want to extend the IR reception across a house or from room to room then an IR repeater would seem to be the best bet. -- rudholm rudholm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2980 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24657 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Re: Can Headphone Port be used to receive IR commands
Thanks for the responses. By way of clarification, the reason I was asking was because I was wondering if there might be a way to connect one of the IR outputs of my Harmony 890 RF receiver to SqueezeBox directly avoiding the need to place one of the IR emitters in the line-of-sight of the SqueezeBox's IR receiver. However, I think you're made it clear that the headphone port can only be used as an IR output, and not an input.
