[slim] Re: Help! SlimServer won't start
I installed yesterday's 6.3 nightly as a clean install after removing my 6.2.2 install and deleting the entire directory to remove any leftover stuff the un-installer hadn't taken care of. Everything seemed to work fine until today, when the service had stopped and Windows was not able to re-start it. The Windows event log had this entry a couple of times The following information is part of the event: OpenService failed: The specified service does not exist as an installed service I wonder does the un-installer not clean up the service control manager entries correctly so that the new install doesn't set up correctly. Just a guess. Maybe a reboot was required. Anyway, I then couldn't figure out the cmd line switch to install Slim.exe as a service. The only switch missing from the cmd line listing must be --install. I entually found it in the FAQ, but when I ran the command I got an error C:\Program Files\SlimServer\serverslim --install CreateService failed: The specified service already exists Weird. Had the same problem with 6.2.2 offical release on a new PC build with XP Pro. Same sympton as last post - just shows Slimserver Starting in the system tray. This sounds like a bug in the installer that we've had a heck of a time reproducing where the SlimServer service doesn't get installed properly. It's fixed by running the installer a second time. I'm having exactly then same problem...installed 6.2.2 and slimserver no longer works (thank god for squeezenetwork). I'm running under xp home sp2. Have tried scrubbing slimserver from drives, registry and nothing works. Will try reinstalling 5.3.1 cos that's the previous download I had and see if that helpsbut I'm not best pleased. Alsoanyone figure out why live364 urls don't work anymore ?
