Yeah, I guess I should add it to 6.5, although the location will be
temporary since we're planning better integration for 6.5.

Andy,

When will the "switch to SN" from the web ui go live in 6.5?

Thanks!!

SN now has the ability to disconnect a player via the website. The link
is located at the top of the Squeezeboxes -> Preferences page.

First, let me say I agree with KDF, that this is a first step and a
good one. I am sure developers on the SqueezeNetwork side are working
on a way to get us back to slimserver from squeezenetwork.

On the other hand, it is exactly those people have there Squeezeboxes
in inaccessible locations who will find the new feature by itself
pretty useless. What good is it to be able to switch to SqueezeNetwork,
if it causes you to loose access to your library. Having my Squeezebox
connected to a whole house system in the basement, I really cannot use
this feature though I would like to. I think this is what JJZolx is
getting at.

Again, though I am sure that the other half of the equation will come
eventually. I do recall Sean or someone saying that the goal is to
eventually have the differences between Squeezenetwork and slimserver
made completely transparent to the user.

Actually there's been at least two threads asking for this very thing.

These were people with SBs in inaccessible locations, media closets, no
remote etc.

Personally I can't use the feature. But I still think it's a good
idea.

Which is what I was asking. How is this ability by itself the least
bit useful to those people? I'm not knocking the feature, but I fail
to understand how anyone could get excited by it.

You connect a box to SqueezeNetwork through the web ui from a PC or
your PDA. Then you pick up the remote and use the remote interface to
connect to a feed. You could have more easily connected to
SqueezeNetwork with the remote itself.

that may eventually come too. This one is a step, jjzolx. Clearly,
it wasn't written just for you, but some out there appear to
appreciate it for their needs. It doesn't always make sense for
everyone. I personally have all the features I need on slimserver,
and only use SQN for testing a few things now and again. With just
one player (old SBG) running rss in the kitchen (sitting on the
microwave, wirelessly, no less)

No. SS -> SN, not the other way around.

Pity. I'm sure people are working on it, but I've never been quite
sure why the Squeezenetwork was not better integrated into the main
menus. I don't understand why you need to sign on to use those
services as a separate step. I mean could not selecting Pandora
imply the need to sign on without having to explicitly go through
that step? And couldn't selecting "Library" on the SB automatically
switch back to slimserver without explicitly signing off?

To me, those steps seem clearly implied and therefore should not need
to be performed explicitly in separate steps.

As I said, I'm sure people are working on it.

Once the box is on SqueezeNetwork, does it automatically connect to the
most recent feed, or do you still need to use the remote to begin
playing something?

2006-06-24 Thread rudholm

What would be really cool is if the Squeezenetwork web interface had the
full suite of controls, including the ability to disconnect from
Squeezenetwork and go back to Slimserver.

I have patio speakers for outdoor listening. When I use them the IR
remote isn't an option since the SB is far away, so I use a laptop to
control the music. But this means Squeezenetwork and Pandora are not
an option, which is disappointing.

I imagine anyone using anything besides the IR remote for SB control
would feel the same way.
