Re: [slim] Re: SB2 Dead - HELP!

2006-06-15 Thread Richie

In addition to this, the SB3 is more expensive, albeit almost identical
but for casing, as far as I'm aware. Therefore, my only option to
resolve a faulty unit is to have it sent back, then pay more money for
a replacement unit that I don't really like so much in a colour
different to the old one. I'm either going to have to rearrange stuff
to fit it in, or sell it on, since right now I'm not best pleased.

It's a shame that an SB3 wouldn't fit in your setup as I think you'd
like it. However, if it has genuinely failed under warranty you really
don't have to pay extra now that the SB2 has been superceded with the
SB3. Your supplier should either offer you a free upgrade or your
money back. As a consumer in the UK you have rights, unfortunately a
lot of shops try to avoid their obligations to save money.

[slim] Re: SB2 Dead - HELP!

2006-06-15 Thread Cessquill

Sorry for the delay...

After talks direct with Slimdevices technical support, they determined
that my machine was dead and needed replacing/repairing depending on
warranty.

Fortunately, the place I'd purchased from in the UK didn't dispatch my
unit until mid June '05, putting it still within its 1 year warranty.
I couriered the unit back, they determined first hand that the unit was
faulty and offered a replacement

UNFORTUNATELY, the Squeezebox 2 is no longer available, so my only
choice would be a SB3. Wasn't best pleased with this, since I much
prefer the SB2.

In addition to this, the SB3 is more expensive, albeit almost identical
but for casing, as far as I'm aware. Therefore, my only option to
resolve a faulty unit is to have it sent back, then pay more money for
a replacement unit that I don't really like so much in a colour

to fit it in, or sell it on, since right now I'm not best pleased.

Maybe it's just unfortunate, but it still gripes initially. One of the
deciding factors originally was the design and integration with an
existing setup. Bah!

[slim] Re: SB2 Dead - HELP!

2006-06-06 Thread ob_kook

I have just experienced the exact same issue:

Left SB2 off while I was on a 2 week business trip (left it unplugged
actually), just went to plug it in and nothing. No screen, no
scrolling, no finding the network, cannot see it as a player in
Slimserver...just a small red light that can be seen through the
optical port in the back.

Has there been any resolve or update to the OP on this issue?

Peter

I will try that when I get home, but other options not looking good.

Nothing going from that

Windows XP SP2, Slimserver running 6.2.2 - 7135 (although I think I was
running previous full release when it went down), it's connected via
wireless

Siduhe Wrote:

Nothing. Not even the splash screen scrolling across.

Tried that just now - nothing. (also changed batteries in remote)

Not looking good here...

First suggestion to rule out just screen blankage: Press the brightness
button on the remote a couple of times - it could be that SB is on and
functioning but the brightness has been set to 0.

If not, a few more details of your setup please ? OS / version

If you unplug and plug the power back in, does the SB default to
network set up or does nothing happen ?

What about a hard reset - (unplug and replug power supply all the while
holding down the Add button) but you will lose your settings with this.

[slim] Re: SB2 = dead

2006-04-06 Thread karthik

I bought my sbabout 3-4 months back and it's been great. I had a power
outage a couple of days back, and the sb's been pretty much dead since
then (same symptoms as descibed in previous posts). I did have the sb
connected to a very good surge protector and none of my other, more
expensive components on the surge protector were affected by this.

I spoke to tech. support, who was very helpful. Made me try a few
"idiot" steps, but was very polite. Finally gave up and suggested that
I send in an RMA request. Hopefully, I'll get my new sb soon...I've
gotten so used to this wonderful device, it sucks not to have it.

One thing the tech. support guy had me try that I hadn't already: Hold
down the + button (Add button) and see if that does anything.

Thnx for all the advice. At least I know the difference between current
and voltage now ;-)

Unfortunately there is no led on the SB2 (at least I didn't find it).
Maybe it's time to look for a voltmeter.

Anyone knows if there is some sort of systemreset possible for SB2 ?

Lucky that I still have my cd's

It's not very high power, so you should be able to safely do my usual
electric test: lick the 5v end of the cable. You should get a nice
tingly on your tongue.

It may hurt slightly so keep it short.

In the Netherlands the devices is sold by mcintoys

I don't know where you bought the devices but you also could contact

I bought 2 devices from them with no problems at all.

[slim] Re: SB2 = dead

2006-03-26 Thread MagicK

Hi Ceejay,
Thanks for your quick reply. Here are some confirms:

- when you say its dead...
no display, no player found by Slimserver (also after restart), no
reaction on any button of the remote (incl. brightness :-))

- have you checked voltage
The box get's some warmth, so I gues there is power. Unfortunatelly I
don't have another block to test with

- try email to the support desk
ok I will sent them the same question.

- and if they can't help you fix it then you may indeed need to send it
back to whereever you bought it from (this is a reason for buying
locally, but you probably don't want to know that just now!)

Thnx for that, but it was a little hard to buy one locally in Holland
:-(

[slim] Re: SB2 = dead

2006-03-26 Thread ceejay

Some things to confirm...

- when you say its dead, is that because there's nothing on the display
(think how embarassing it would be if you had the brightness down to
zero...)?

- have you checked that there is some voltage on the end of the power
supply? Do you have another power block of the same spec you could
try?

- always worth trying email to the support desk (which this forum
isn't!!)

- and if they can't help you fix it then you may indeed need to send it
back to whereever you bought it from (this is a reason for buying
locally, but you probably don't want to know that just now!)

Good luck

Ceejay
