Use the Advanced > search to do that. Maybe I am a little dense, but if the simple search is searching for text strings in the TITLE, ARTIST and ALBUM fields, why doesn't it find all tracks by an artist then? Isn't the artist just a text string in the ARTIST field? Example: SONG TITLE:Pata Pata ALBUM: Putumayo Presents The Best Of World Music, Vol. 1: World Vocal ARTIST: Miriam Makeba If I search for "Makebe" this song doesn't show up, but searching for "Pata" it does... -- treble treble's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2797 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28102 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Ceejay, are you sure you're talking about the _basic_ search ('Search Music') and not the advanced search? The Advanced Search works like this if you search for an artist. The basic search does not, nor is it designed to. Treble, again, the basic search is a simple search for a text string. It's _not_ a search for an artist, so it won't read your mind and pull up the tracks for the artists matched by the string. Use the Advanced search to do that. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28102 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Well, I'm using a 6.5.1 nightly from a few nights ago, you might need to give it a try? Copy your current slimserver directory so you can roll back easily if you find it creates more problems than it solves... Hi Ceejay, Yes, that's the behavior I would like :-) I am using the following version: VERSION INFO SlimServer Version: 6.5.0 - 9916 - Windows 2000 - EN - cp1252 Server IP address: 192.168.168.210 Perl Version: 5.8.7 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt My compilations settings are as follows: List compilation albums under each artist List albums by all artists for that album I have been thinking about upgrading to 6.5.1, but I am reading to many problems with MusicMagic integration. MusicMagic (MusicIP mixer) works ok for me on 6.5.0 (except for sometimes getting empty playlists because of probably accented characters in filename, but that's another thread...) Maybe I wasn't totally clear. When I search for Makeba it doesn't show all songs performed by her (where she is the artist) on Various Artist albums, like these two: 4. Pata Pata from Putumayo Presents The Best Of World Music, Vol. 1: World Vocal by Miriam Makeba 1. Pata Pata 2000 from New World Party by Miriam Makeba So it seems that normal search only picks up those albums where Makeba is the sole artist. To confirm this when I search for an artist who is only present on a Various Artist album, the search doesn't return anything. However, using Advanced Search does find the song... I am not sure why this should be intended behavior. Don't you want to find 'all' songs by an artist when you search for it? -- treble treble's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2797 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28102 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I agree that the functionality is fine as it is, but treble's problem can be summed up more precisely with "Slimserver doesn't act like iTunes". He's wanting it to show him a list of songs, then filter that list down when he types an artist into the search box. -- "I spent all me tin with the ladies drinking gin,So across the Western ocean I must wander" -- traditional ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

It gives you the artist, which you can click and then you have all albums by that artist. treble wrote: > Of course it's a bug... if I search for an artist and don't get all > songs by that artist it's wrong. Read carefully what you're saying. You're searching for an artist, not for songs by that artist. As you've already discovered, you need to use advanced search for that. However, once you've found your artist, clicking on the artist name shuold show all albums by that artist which does not seem to be happening in your case. Doesn't look like a bug to me. The way the basic search works is that it searches for the string within an artist, album, or track name. So if you do a basic search for 'makeba' it will show you any artist, album or track containing the string 'makeba'. It won't show you all the albums and tracks recorded by the artist with that name. (Note: there's a server setting for the search behavior to either search the beginnig or _within_ words - I'd recommend setting it to search within for more complete results.
