I got my spare Controller charger with the universal power pack this
week too. Anyone want one or more of the non-US adapter plate plugs
for free? I think it came with 3 non-US plates.

Hey Howard, how about that URL for everybody else or are you waiting to
make sure it works first?

The guy at the Cinglar (I mean ATT) Store gave me an adapter plate for
free. Seems my Blackberry charger uses the same plate at least here in
the US. YMMV.

Yep, thought I'd be sure it fits first. They don't have a mechanical

O.K., I checked the one I have on my cradle at home and I am now
confident it is the same one as I found. As a matter of fact it has
the same manufacturer part number on it.

Here's the manufacturer and the page with all of the different plates.
http://www.phihongusa.com/html/psam30r.html

Here's where I found the plate here in the U.S., but I would imagine
there are many other places you can get one. On the manufacturer site
they even gave names and contact info for companies that carried them.

Anyway, here's where I got mine.

Transporters are actually sold brand new to the buyers. Slim Devices

 Hey Howard,

Have you tried a Transporter for 30 days? It didn't even take 15 days
for me to decide to replace my Esoteric Transport and Dodson DA-217
MK2-D Digital Processor as my main digital source with the Transporter.
I was very skeptical that a NMP was going to be able to match my CD
setup at a fifth of the cost, but that was indeed the case. So I sold
my Esoteric Transport. I got to good of a deal on the Dodson to let it
go and its nice to have a great DAC around anyway. Speaking of DACs,
the Bel Canto e.One DAC3 D/A processor makes a great partner to the
Receiver or Classic but sadly that combo costs $900 more then a
Transporter and will not play 24/96 files native like the TP will.
There is a ton of value in the Transporter.

If it doesn't change your mind then send it back before the 30 days are
 up.

(using my best Jack Benny immitation) Ya knw,... For some
reason 30 day trials..or any number of day trials, rub me the wrong
way. It might sound rediculous...wait, it even sound rediculous to me,
but I don't think it's fair for the companies who offer these trials to
sell the merchandise as new after they send it out for trial. I know
some companies have open box sales, but just as often they simply box
it back up and send it out, especially when there is minimal profit
involved and it's an expensive item. I just don't feel like I'm being
fair to Logitech or anyone else.

I'm what they call an advanced amateur photographer and with the onset
of the digital age, DSLR cameras have become quite expensive. Most
reputable dealers offer a liberal return period on these cams and it
seems just as often you hear about someone who purchases a camera from
these dealers that has hundreds of activations on it. Personally I
don't feel it's fair to pay the exact same amount of money for a
slightly used camera as it is for a brand new one. Feeling that way is
why I am opposed (for myself) to trial periods on devices. Another part
of the issue for myself is that I have no doubt the Transporter will
work as advertised, but the part I care about is one of personal taste
and it doesn't sit well with me to use a piece of equipment and return
it based on my personal tastes.

I know all of this seems silly and I think there are ways around it. I
would love to find one locally to listen to (not likely) or if companies
would make trial models available. The automobile business does it.
You have demo models that are used for test drives and then sold at a
reduced price because the dealer has depreciated the vehicle. Same
thing for local sound shops. When I purchased my equipment years ago I
took home floor models to try over night. As long as I didn't damage
them I didn't have to pay for anything and the shop would sell them as
floor models at the end of the year.

Anyway, like I said, it's just a personal quirk of mine and I'm willing
to wait for the opportunity to hear one local to myself.

Nuts, huh?

Ahh. Just re-read the thread and came across this. What we have here
(for us long suffering European residents) seems to be a chink in the
Logitech you have to use our decrepit European distribution system so
we can keep our differential pricing armour. It still peeves me when I
remember trying to get a boom when they first came out and was told that
'we have boxes full in our back room' in Mountain View and the UK
delivery at higher price was 4 weeks. Just for grins, you should see
the places that Slim will ship to out of the US (have a look at the
drop down box on their website). I am not sure all of them are even
inhabited. Pretty much everywhere in the world except Western Europe.

I may need to move.

 Logitech store.

I'd really like to revive my beta remote from it's slumber and I'll buy
a cradle and battery to do so.

Isn't the battery some type of an easily available cellphone battery?

[slim] SBC cradles now for sale...

2009-02-10 Thread Howard Passman

I guess I need to change my signature from still waiting for cradle to
finally got an extra cradle.

$20 seems reasonable and I'm just glad they are finally available.

I also notice a Transporter rack mount kit?

Can't say I've ever seen that before!

Man, if I thought for a second the Transporter sounded near as good as
my old Revox CD player I'd buy onesigh.

soon.

Sounds like they opened the factory tap? My guess is with production
declining, factories in China are working on their backlog now.

I think the power adapters are a new item too. Glad to see those being
offered, especially for the Boom.

Reasonable indeed. And now for the next inevitable question. Where's a
Dutchman going to order one with the right plug?
Will they be available through the Logitech store or anywhere else in
Europe?

The Cradle has a wide AC transformer on it and the device is outputting
DC so a wide range of AC input voltages (100 to 240 VAC) are covered.
The wall wart uses slide on plug adapters for most AC outlets. The
voltage of ones country shouldn't be a problem.

I don't know if they are including all the adapters or if they are
including the adapter for only the country itÂ’s shipped to. IOW, at
this time I wouldn't have a buddy in the US buy one and send it to you
unless you have friends at the Cellular store that will give you the
correct adapter.

Note that the slide-in plate adapters are also available

If it doesn't change your mind then send it back before the 30 days are
up.

Isn't it really $27 if you factor in the plate adapter?

The power adapter plates could be a good buy regardless. More and more
devices are coming with those slide in plates so could be good if you
travel a lot.
