Personally, I think the little loop is best thought of as a grabbing/pulling convenience. R. Re: [slim] The Current State of USB Sticks
I use a USB flash drive for my Arlo camera system to store videos locally. It is a Sandisk Cruzer 32 GB. It works fine for about a year, then it will go into write protect (?) mode, which is a state that you can read from it but can no longer write to it. SanDisk has replaced two of them under warranty. My guess there is a limited number of write cycles and the Arlo system is doing something with a lot of writes. I have posted on the Arlo forum of the issue and I have gotten little response. Upon its recent failure, I switched to a different model, SanDisk Ultra. I will see if that lasts longer. On another subject, the Arlo camera system is unreliable and customer service is terrible, so I don't recommend it. I bought the Alro system on sale and it took me a while to set it up, then the return period expired. If I had a little LED flashing in > my truck it would drive me nuts! Sorry, I never replied to your post from awhile back - yes I can see why an LED in that case would be annoying! By the way, if you look close in my drawer organizer pic, you can see I have one of those small Sandisk sticks, it's an 8GB and I bought it on December 12, 2011 according to my Amazon history. I bought it specifically to use in my... yep, Blaupunkt car stereo. Sold the car and the stereo with it not long after. I remember that stereo was weird in that it played the tracks in the order they were written to the stick, so if you dragged and dropped (I was using windows at the time) they sometimes played back out of the expected track order. Robocopy was the solution. sodface's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19057 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116407 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] The Current State of USB Sticks
38958 Heh. I have lots and lots of flash drives, some with only a 1 gb capacity, filched from my former workplace, branded. I use the drives almost exclusively as a mechanism for porting music to the car, although they are sometimes useful for porting from main computer to a laptop. The DAC in the car's display head is apparently much superior to the one on on my quite good phone, and the music just sounds better when played from a flash drive instead of the phone. Otherwise, the system in my newish car, a Kia Niro PHEV nine months old, is quite nice, nicer than I'd likely have opted for if it hadn't been the only option. Of late I have migrated towards minimalist but good quality drives. I like these ones, and similar, from Kingston, which have no outer housing and the entire working end plugs into the port. They come in different form factors, as illustrated, and there is at least one that is smaller yet. Small and easily misplaced, though, take care. They are usually among the most expensive for the size - although these days storage cost, including flash drives, is seldom high enough to warrant differentiation on that basis. Stupid tip of the day: the local dollar store has these little plastic lunch trays that make nice drawer organizers. +---+ |Filename: IMG_20221021_184355158.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=38950| +---+ sodface's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19057 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116407 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
