The key for me is to be able to syncronize with the other SB's. We have a multiroom setup, but that's a tad expensive to fit out every room, and having the iPhone play from squeeze server would add another room. But it has to syncronize. Softsqueeze used to be able to do this on a PC. So, I wonder if the same can be done with an iPhone. I also presume it will play music from mp3tunes. -- Justme Justme's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66511 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

(This downrezzing isn't just for the iphone client. Same thing happens on the desktop.) I'm real tempted to open up port 9000 on my router and connect remotely that way, using the SC password. Hoping an update fixes things. Sorry I haven't been checking this thread just the product announcement one. If you have problems you can always contact me via the support link in the app itself. Using winamp or vlc isn't a good test for the stream.mp3 as both of them don't seem to be as particular about the container/format. I recommend testing the stream.mp3 with iTunes instead if you have it. If the music stops what's bearing out is SC can't transcode what you want at the rate you want. The same thing that happens there generally happens in SM as well. We have NAS users to thank for a lot of that information. Make sure in your file types MP3 is native and all your other formats do indeed have MP3 enabled next to them. Beta users may not have that enabled by default. I have an update 1.1.0 awaiting the App Store approval process and am working on on 1.2.0 1.1.0 I added library search so you don't have to wade through pages. 1.2.0 will have multiple server support so if you access SC from inside and outside your home you won't have to go into settings and keep changing the address. There is no default for your player as that data is not stored on your mobile device but fetched right then and there. Actually no data, save the server, is on the device. For me on 3G the device is always different and the IP of my device never matching the public. I'm open to suggestions that can actually be implemented on that front. I'd love to be able to submit parameters like the playerid to the stream url itself like the other urls in SC. -- jtpowell jtpowell's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31597 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66511 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] iPod / iPhone as a receiver
I just bought the Squeeze Mobile app and it seems to work for me mostly as it should. No problems with flac or anything. Several crashes. Switching tracks often crashes it. One oddity/annoyance is that when I restart the app I have to select the SqueezeMobile player each time. Seems like it should be the default. Actually sometimes it resumes playing before you select but you cannot control any thing. It seems that selecting in the Players list does the "selecting." I don't know what "Squeeze Player" in the next window does. It takes quite a while to respond to requests to skip to the next track (buffering?) and there is sometimes a hiccup sound when it goes to the next track. I like the functionality, but definitely not too solid yet. -- mkt mkt's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14921 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66511 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] iPod / iPhone as a receiver
For VPN I've got a DLINK DIR-330 it does IPSEC and PPTP and both work great WIFI/3G. I picked it up dirt cheap $50 off Ebay. The VPN server is built in no extra parts needed. VPN is definitely for advanced users. As for the security of SC that's not entirely unknown for starters it's open source and perl. Perl and the web go way back. Any time you open any port that's possibly available to public consumption though even ssh, even vpn(remember the hordes of brute force attacks on that) you're open to exposure. SC itself can be as secure as can be but if any part in the stack isn't. I'm pretty sure Logitech and others don't want to be in the business of fielding complaints or blamed as the source of ill from folks who didn't patch or properly secure their Linux, Windows, Mac, etc., etc. device so if I were Logitech I'd give the same answer they did. For all intents and purposes though this is basic http traffic wether or not one should open it like any server really depends on your level of expertise and willingness to exposure and your own ability to mitigate that exposure. -- jtpowell jtpowell's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31597 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66511 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It's technically possible but not quiet sure I'd want to go down that road. One it duplicates functionality which Apple doesn't seem to be too keen on. You can see the screenshots of it though here techadvantagenow.com/v1/products/SqueezeMobile.aspx I've been dogfooding it the last few weeks and it works well Wifi or 3G. I can control the player from the iPhone itself or Squeeze Center. Works great in my dock too. I submited last week so hopefully within another week it should be for sale in the App Store. -- jtpowell jtpowell's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31597 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66511 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] iPod / iPhone as a receiver
Warning! I had a problem after this experiment. If the 'Mozilla from ...' player is left sync'd to other players (even when I'm sure I'd closed the quicktime player) then playing FLAC files results in the message "problem: unable to play file type" on the SB3 (but not on the controller) and no music. Normal service was restored by selecting this defunct player on the controller and unsync'ing it from my hardware Squeezeboxes. -- DigitalMitch DigitalMitch's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15999 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66511 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] iPod / iPhone as a receiver
tried the above instructions for Iphone 3.0.1, whilst playing FLAC files synchronously to 3 other players. Safari opened Quicktime and this was visible as a player from both iPeng on the same phone and my Controller. Both indicated the player was off and I couldn't control it into life. The progress inicator on the controller would track as if playing but both it and playing volume would rest to 0 periodically (amd restart on waking the controller). All play ceased and the controller displayed the error message 'Unable to play file type ...' Player display persisted even after I had switched off Quicktime player and had music playing again (player display corrected by using IR to cycle display size !!!) I tried the Quicktime player unsync'd from the rest of my players but had the same result. I then tried with an old mp3 file unsync'd and it worked, that is I got streamed music from iphone. However it seemed to carry on playing and ignore controller instructions (skip track and pause). I tried syncing it, and after a delay, during which rest of players went quiet, it started to play sync'd track, whilst controller labelled it off, rest of players never resumed playing. This shows it is possible but the limitations may be too much for many (I can't see a use myself as i've 5 squeezebozes and a controller). -- DigitalMitch DigitalMitch's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15999 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66511 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] iPod / iPhone as a receiver
Assuming you have iPeng, you can do this right now - first, use safari to browse to "http://:9000/stream.mp3". This will bring up a media player in safari. Now hit the "home" button, and from the springboard launch iPeng. You should see the player listed as "Mozilla from ". Select it, and play away! Your actions may be a bit delayed, as your SC is converting to mp3 in the background, but otherwise it works perfectly for me! If you don't have iPeng, you could use a web browser on another device to control the player. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find a way to browse to another "tab" in the iPhone Safari browser while it's playing a stream - which is why I use iPeng to control it. -Alex -- alex_london alex_london's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=906 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66511 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] iPod / iPhone as a receiver
The developer of the iPeng app is hoping to add player functionality at some point. It makes much more sense to build it into iPeng than to have a separate receiver/player app. -- andynormancx Yes, it will. Yes, all of them. Yes, SoftSqueeze as well. What ? There is an iphone/touch app called audioin (and a server program) which can stream all audio played on a pc/mac to the iphone. -- kernel kernel's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14943 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66511 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] iPod / iPhone as a receiver
Hi - Is there any plan to have application to transform an iPod / iPhone transformed into a receiver ? I've read that porting Squeezeplay would be rather difficult, but what I had more in mind what a simple solution like SqueezeSlave. My use case is that I'd love to use some of my iPod portable (battery powered) docking stations to listen to music _and_ to sync it with my other players. A portable boom would be perfect, but obviously this does not exist (I I can't find any solution, I'll probably work something around with an external battery, but this is going to look ugly). Initially, I would not even be willing to have a fancy app on the iPod, just the receiver capability and I coudl use my regular controller -- philippe_44 philippe_44's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17261 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66511 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
