Re: [slim] the "SQUEEZEBOX RADIO SHOW" (this Saturday night 11pm EST)
No, the Touch is simply a table top player intended to be connected to your stereo. The interface is essentially the same as the SB Radio. Touch has a lot of great features: bigger screen, touch screen, full button IR remote, built in mini-server, excellent audio outs (analog & digital), etc.. But it still does not have a browser to see or respond to web pages. For any such simplistic network devices like SB players connecting to an open WiFi, it is best to first connect with a laptop to see if such login screens are needed. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85686 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yup...that's a serious problem Toby10. I was trying to demo my SqueezeRadio at a Starbucks to my friend. Even though Starbucks has free WiFi, the SB won't connect...hence no demo. What's more serious is you're traveling with your SB and your hotel room has free WiFi. You think you're all set but then your SB can't connect because it has to the "accept the terms of use"ugghhh...screwed again!!! Not having a SqueezeTouch, I don't know what it can do but it looks like a mini iTouch that it might just have an "acceptance of terms" box on its screen. No? {I'll post the Starbucks problem in another message later) -- chipmalee chipmalee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39278 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85686 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Nice job. :) The one catch to using any open WiFi or hotspots, particularly with hotels, is many require some sort of web UI "action" be taken to log on to their network. Sometimes it is an actual ID and password, many times it is a simple "acceptance of terms" click. The SB players cannot see nor respond to these web UI screens as the players do not have a web browser. If there is no such web UI action needed then your SB player can indeed use these open WiFi's. There are ways around this using Internet Connection Sharing and/or bridging, but these require a computer be in use and the SB player is then connected to the computer. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85686 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] the "SQUEEZEBOX RADIO SHOW" (this Saturday night 11pm EST)
Here's the Hack or workaround: 1. Call in as a host on a regular phone and get the show going. This should take about 3 minutes. 2. Call in as a guest on the MagicJack. Once you accept yourself as the guest on MagicJack (on the Switchboard), you can hang up your regular phone. 3. You can control or accept other guests from your onscreen Switchboard. The downside is (a) you can only have 4 guests (instead of 5) as a free subscriber; and (b) if you get disconnected, you are screwed since you will need to call back on the host line and repeat everything again. Here's the cash layout for calling in lieu of MagicJack: $0.25 AT&T Prepaid Phone per minute _x__3_Three minutes estimated to get show going $0.75 Total Listen to discussions about MagicJack at 23:00 minutes (or copy following link into your Squeezebox favorites): http://www.blogtalkradio.com/convertplaylist.aspx?PlayListUrl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.blogtalkradio.com%2fblogtalkradio101%2fplay_list.xml%3fshow_id%3d1647267&OutputType=m3u Source: BlogTalkRadio Training: Live Q and A Session Original Air Date: March 16, 2011 http://www.blogtalkradio.com/blogtalkradio101/2011/03/16/live-q-and-a-session -- chipmalee chipmalee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39278 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85686 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] the "SQUEEZEBOX RADIO SHOW" (this Saturday night 11pm EST)
No problem then, let me know how I can help. So basically my phone line will be used as an invisible operator, as it were. Callers are actually calling you, but the "third party" on my phone is actually the podcast stream. Correct? I'm almost certain I have 3-way calling, dunno about the "conferencing" aspect. I do travel for biz on occasion so we would have to coordinate schedules. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85686 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] the "SQUEEZEBOX RADIO SHOW" (this Saturday night 11pm EST)
Thanks toby10. I'm going to try one last test to try to trick the system with MagicJack. You don't need to reveal your telephone number. All you have to do is dial in a 213 number and punch in the access code BlogTalkRadio supplies...then dial my home number and tie us into a 3-way conference. I'll send you that information in a PM. I've never tried NowLive but I've been a listener on BlogTalk for about a year now. I've become an expert on streaming them on my SqueezeRadio. I am proud to say I've learned some tricks recently, such as being able to fast forward (as well as reverse) their podcast on the SqueezeRadio. I've never had any problems with BlogTalk so they get a big THUMBS UP from me. -- chipmalee chipmalee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39278 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85686 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] the "SQUEEZEBOX RADIO SHOW" (this Saturday night 11pm EST)
My two phone lines through my cable provider has a bunch of features I never use, I'll check to see if conferencing is one of them. I have no interest in acting as host or co-host, but if using my phone line can help I'll gladly donate that. Would my phone number need to be public? What about something like NowLive? A friend use to do a show on there and it had some sort of call in feature with lines waiting. Each show had their own chat room as well. But NowLive did not stream very well to SB players though. :( -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85686 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] the "SQUEEZEBOX RADIO SHOW" (this Saturday night 11pm EST)
Hey toby10, No...never gotten to 1st base with the Squeezebox Show because this long distance fiasco is draining all my efforts. I'm looking at a couple of other options but I don't think I want to pay Verizon $10 every time just to host a show for 30 minutes. If you want to help, can you patch me into a 3 way teleconference? You would be co-host and I'm assuming you have another low cost long distance provider besides MagicJack. I'm also reading that Google Voice now blocks the hosting/213 number. -- chipmalee chipmalee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39278 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85686 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Chip, Yeah, I've read also where if they see "unusual" call volumes on a MJ account (like a business) they will terminate the account. What that call volume threshold is is completely up to MJ's discretion. BTW: Have you completed a SB show? Is it archived as a podcast somewhere? -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85686 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

They forwarded the problem to a generic customer service support center. The bottom line is it costs MagicJack money so they are not going to do it. Yeah, MJ customer service is notoriously horrible. Luckily I've only ever had to contact them once and that was a billing issue (their web site refused to take my renewal money!?!). See below for some MJ contact info I accumulated to resolve my issue, hope it helps. YMax is MJ. I use it mostly to call back to the US when traveling internationally and it works very well for this while saving me a small fortune.
