> > there's no good (wiki or otherwise) instructions about upgrading 6.5 to > 7.x for Mac that I can find. > You're right but since it is 10 months since 7.0 - there is unlikely one to be written. Not upgrading unless you really have to or you have a clean start (e.g. new PC) is a very sensible approach. If you do upgrade allow for 2-3 weeks settling down time when things don't all work as well as they used to. If you expect this delay then you will not be disappointed and if upgrade goes smoothly - then you'll be happy. If you do decide to upgrade then you will then decide which version 7.2.1 has just been released or 7.3 which is planned for early Dec. Immediate Plugin compatability for 7.3 may not true for all plugins. General Points to watch. 1. Directory naming may change - Slimserver to Squeezecenter. Plugins organisation changes and so locations of plugins may also change. There are now two directories for plugins - one for users and one for SC internal plugins. Make sure users plugins are installed in the correct directory. 2. Make sure you know all the Plugins you use and locate all updated versions before upgrading to 7.x. Be careful - some plugins will not work with all version of 7.x. Check for any "gotchas" such as Last.fm if not in UK/US/Germany so you know what to expect. 3. Make a note of preferences - the upgrade should migrate them all but some may be forgotten (especially plugins). 4. Backup your entire Slimserver installation so that you can revert quickly if the upgrade goes pear-shaped. 5. Manage expectations of other users. 6. Don't upgrade anything else at the same time 7. Check system specs. User interface changes with 7.x which can be more CPU intensive. The old user interface is still available as Classic but some Settings are only accessible with the new interface. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54339 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] AAC Plus on Mac
Understood. I really must get from 6.5 to 7 ... though I'm largely of the 'if it ain't broke' mentality. Still, the iPlayer plugin and a few other goodies are making it increasingly tempting to take the plunge. But while we're on the subject, there's no good (wiki or otherwise) instructions about upgrading 6.5 to 7.x for Mac that I can find. -- whitman whitman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9053 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54339 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] AAC Plus on Mac
Limitation of 6.5 made it difficult to simplify. For 7.x - there is a minimal "plugin" which simplifies installation (except for mplayer) to a single unzip and restart -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54339 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I need to updaste/correct the wiki entry. Re: [slim] AAC Plus on Mac
Attached are replacement AlienBBC conf files. Download the attachements - rename them so that they lose the ".txt" ( which was necessary as an attachement to the post". Save the original AlienBBC conf files in case you need to revert. Copy the 2 conf file from this post into the Alien folder - replacing the existing conf files. Restart SC. Check Settings/Filetypes - there should be 3 new "mplayer" entries with no name (to give name requires editing the AlienBBC plugin.pm file). If the blank filetypes are present check by playing as known aacplus stream. +---+ |Filename: custom-types.conf.txt| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6136| +---+ -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54339 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] AAC Plus on Mac
They are plain text files, so any text editor can open them. I think TextEdit would be fine, but I can't recall if one has to do anything special to preserve Unix line endings. You may have to tell it to make the text plain text format, not rtf. -- danco danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54339 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] AAC Plus on Mac
mplayer will not add any filetype to SC - it is all within conf files. Re: [slim] AAC Plus on Mac
Sorry bpa, I think I confused you. I meant Settings etc, not prefs: that's where I looked. No AAC Plus filenames there. Here's the thing: I'm assuming that in order to play an AAC Plus stream, such as JazzFM's, through the 'Tune In URL' facility, I need a newer version of mplayer that will add the AAC Plus filenames to Settings. And I'm in turn confused by your mention of a plugin. Re: [slim] AAC Plus on Mac
You should be checking Settings/Advanced/Filetypes and not the prefs file. It looks like the installation of the plugin attached to the post has not been successful. Double check the installation and don't forget to restart SC. The issue about mplayer is only important when you have AACplus filettypes. What version of SC ? Have you a working version of AlienBBC installed ? -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54339 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] AAC Plus on Mac
But I have no AAC Plus entries listed in Slimserver's file formats in prefs. My understanding from the wiki is that I need a later version of mplayer to have that facility. Re: [slim] AAC Plus on Mac
If you have AlienBBC running then you do not need to install another copy of mplayer.
