Re: [slim] Hole in the top of remote

2009-01-22 Thread pichonCalavera

Well I actually would like a Squeezebox Portable:

Take the controller as a basis, make it smaller, put some buttons on
the side to save space, keep the same UI, keep the memory card so the
capacity can be upgradable, make it a top notch SQ headphone out, same
audio codec support as the other Squeezeboxes, keep the streaming
playback, install Squeezecenter inside the Portable, ability to sync
with other Squeezecenter instances over Wifi so I can choose and copy
my music easily to my Portable, and use the transcoding abilities of
Squeezecenter so that I could have a choice of transcoding my FLAC
music library in my main server to MP3 or OGG on my Portable (and this
way I eliminate the need to have duplicates of the music I want in my
portable).

I'd say. Good, you just described the Sonos remote! Obviously anyone
who'd ever held one knew SD had to develop something similar.

I think the Controller is a result of trying to make it more
 complicated.

This, OTOH, was posted by me, long before the SliMP3 came on the market,

Then again, the idea of multiple transducers in an earbud is
intriguing!

Back on topic, thanks for asking this question, I was wondering about
the hole in the top of the Remote! :) Since the battery life leaves a
little something to be desired, I doubt I'd be using it to listen to my

2008-10-16 Thread tamanaco

Just a thought... now that the headphone jack is activated... I think
the Controller will work both in sync mode with other player(s) and as
independent player. If it works as an independent player, I'd like to
cue the next track to be played in the SB3 connected to my home stereo
system via the Controller. In other words, using the Controller as an
independent player, I'd listen to other tracks in my library while the
SB3 is playing a different track via the stereo system. Then I'd sync
to the SB3 and add the previewed track(s) to the currently playing
playlist in the SB3 using the Controller?. Did I make sense? I'm afraid
that when I sync the Controller to the SB3... the sync process will
stop the currently playing track right? I guess what I'm looking
for is the ability to sync the Controller and the SB3 on the flight
without stopping the currently playing track in the SB3. I don't have a
Controller, but I have been contemplating getting one as soon as my ever
decreasing purchasing power can accommodate it. Having this ability
either via the Controller firmware or via a Controller DJ Emulator
plugin could be interesting.

I see that the controller supports SD cards. Does anyone know what the

Re: [slim] Hole in the top of remote

2008-10-15 Thread funkstar

You mean the Controller right?

The remote is just a remote (written with a lower case 'r').

That is a headphone socket which at the moment only plays the clicks
that play out through the internal speaker.

A software upgrade that turns the Controller into a player is in the
works and is being bushed out to those testing SqueezeCenter 7.3. This
is a beta firmware and the audio playback is considered alpha quality
right now.

Agreed. In fact it's the first time I've heard my FLACs on headphones.

I compared SQ to the Boom headphone/line out and they seemed very
similar, but that's with cheap Denon earbuds. The Controller went a
little louder than Boom, surprisingly. It's miles ahead of the output
from my laptop, if that means anything.

Thanks Skunk.

I guess the barometer for me will be comparison with an iPod, any ideas
on comparison ? Not sure whether this is a red herring given iPods will
tend to be mp3's and we can no listen to FLAC's

Does the current Beta version give the ability to stream internet radio
and other services (last.fm etc.) ?
