Re: [slim] Live show help in Squeezecenter

2008-03-06 Thread rydenfan

I have figured out how to create my albumsort tag. However, when I
create the tag I also have to input a value, does anybody know what I
should put in that field? Thanks so much for the help!! I am so close
to being able to organize my collection.

I cannot seem to find a way to do this using TAG. I am assuming there is
no way to achieve it in Squeezecenter?

Once well tagged, you can show albums in SC (upper right in Fishbone
skin, lower left in Default skin) sorting by Album title, or Year and
Album title, or Year, Artist and Album title, among other options.

Right. SqueezeCenter doesn't write tags -- it uses the tags you have.
If your TAG program won't do it, you should try one of the other Mac
programs listed in the wiki, such as Media Rage, MusicBrainz, or
ExcelTagger. I don't think you've ever said what format your files are,
but if they're FLAC, you could also use the metaflac utility that comes
with Flac http://flac.sourceforge.net.

Re: [slim] Live show help in Squeezecenter

2008-02-29 Thread Stuart Hickinbottom
SqueezeCenter sorts using the ARTISTSORT and TITLESORT tags (I think
I've remembered correctly - check to make sure, though) in preference to
the ARTIST and TITLE tags you normally see. I suspect you could set
these with the year first to allow the sorting behaviour you want, while
maintaining the display format you also want.

It seems just like displaying Miles Davis but sorting on Davis Miles
to me.

Hope I've not completely misunderstood your question!

Curently Squeezecenter places the 1999 show before the 1998 show
because the month is a lower number. I prefer not to put the year in
front of of the month and day if possible. Is there a way to achieve
 this? Thanks for the help!!

I take it that these dates are the actual album titles?
You can keep them like this, and add ALBUMSORT tags to control the sort
order. For example:

Code:

  ALBUM tagALBUMSORT tag
  04.03.1998 1998.04.03
  02.25.1999 1999.02.25

Use a tagging program. Which program will depend what platform you are
on (Windows, Mac, Linux), and possibly what format your files are in.
For Windows, mp3tag is a good program that does FLAC and Ogg files as
well as mp3. See the Beginner's Guide at wiki.slimdevices.com for more
info.

That's definitely the best advice. Two good pages in there are:

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SlimServerSupportedTags

I second MP3Tag (if you're using Windows).

Re: [slim] Live show help in Squeezecenter

2008-02-29 Thread SilverRS8

Most applications can't sort the way you request using the date format
you specify. Almost all algoritms sort starting with the first
character and then second and so on. This is pretty logical since that
is how sorting should be done.

What you actually ask for is that there is a sort method for every date
format. Not an unusual request. I believe the data is stored in a single
database column so it is actually up to MySQL for providing the ability
to sort like you would like. Don't know if this is possible.

The US uses the .MM.DD format. It's just easier to read and sort.
But us europeans often use a DD.MM. format.
