Re: [slim] Musicovery.com can it work on the Squeezebox?

2007-10-09 Thread juniper

I have now listened to Musicovery using the Wavein plugin release 1.02,
and it works. However despite my earlier expressions of joy on
discovering Musicovery, I do now have some concerns particularly that
their free Lo-Fi (32 kbs) option sounds pretty miserable on my SB via
the soundcard, and I would not yet be prepared to pay a monthly
subscription to their Hi-Fi (128 kbs). Mainly because although I am
intrigued by the Musicovery approach (see www.musicovery.com) I am not
sure that I would want to pay regular money to experience it at an
acceptable level of quality, and I think that their range is narrower,
shallower and often repetitive (same title different artists in same
selection / multiple titles same artist (and often not that worthy of
selection) in same selection.

I understand your concerns about the quality of the feed. I use Yahoo
Music Unlimited @192kbps in conjunction with the waveinput plugin ... a
good way to sample music and their catalog is quite extensive (although
not as large as Rhapsody @160kbps) plus it's cheaper to boot.

Thanks Haunyack, but both services are only available in the US. Its
back to Last.fm for me, at least until the geographic listening
rights can be sorted out, maybe I will try again then.

Well, you can always listen to sites like Deezer.com for those who are
deprived of Pandora and Rapsody.

Re: [slim] Musicovery.com can it work on the Squeezebox?

2007-10-09 Thread PeterDB

I do agree that Musicovery could have a wider selection of artists, but
from a personal perspective, their selection fits perfectly into mine.
Although, yes, I might not get my musical spectrum expanded as I would
with Pandora.

I miss Pandora, I would happily go through the hassle of moving to the
US, finding a job, getting a green-card etc etc, just to get a US
credit card to I pay the silly 36 USD for a Pandora account.

But, the likelihood of that happening in the near future, is minimal,
since I already have a job I love.

So until then, I have to find the better services here in Europe.

I just discovered musicovery.com also and it has had some upgrade over
the past months, and I think, that it is actually better than last.fm

Hi,
The waveinput plugin can stream this from your soundcard to the SB/TP
(Lossless - whereas the stream is piped directly with no transcoding
loss)
Works great...a plugin worth mention.

btw... I love the service, thanks for the heads up.

Bottoms up!
