Wouldn't it be more sensible to omit the word "Duet" in this sentence, and then add it to the Duet column as well? For someone new to Squeezeboxes, it could be inferred that you get a Radio, Boom or Touch only after you already have a Duet - and as we know the Duet is certainly not the easiest device to set up (for a lot of people), and a negative experience of the Duet will put people off from trying other products. On the other hand this is a specialized product, unlike a notebook which must be able to work with every bit of windows software the world can throw at it. The screen is much larger as well which is where a chunk of the cost comes from, and internally, it would probably would use much of the stock componets that a laptop uses. Of course, the audio circuitry is more extensive than a laptop, but they have this developed anyway. As for product runs, how much difference are they to the average laptop anyway. There are so many laptops and netbooks out there now and many from much smaller companies than Logitech. A classic example is the new internet tablet from always innovating. Now this is "design" and could probably run slimserver at least harware wise, and is going for about the same price. People can run slimserver on some pretty low powered PC's, notebooks, nettops and even NAS units, so I really don't think it would be too hard to include this in a slim device I think the only reason they don't is because it would defeat their name ;O) It won't be a slim device anymore would it ;O) I personally am tired that I have to keep switching on my PC every time I listen to music. This was fine when I bought the device, but that is so retro these days. -- Justme Justme's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64706 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Actually wall mounting appears to be quite do-able -- but you have to cut a hole in the wall. In other words, mount it in the wall rather than on the wall. Re: [slim] New "Logitech MM STREAM Squeezebox Touch" spotted !!
I use another solution for the controller. I have a Philips Pronto 9400 touch screen remote control with an application to control the Squeezebox. It is not a very cheap solution but the application is embedded in a remotecontrol-only solution, which I think is ideal. Controlling my home equipment and controlling a Squeezebox. It communicates directly by WiFi. The only disadvantage is that the Pronto's Screen is blanks after 30 sec. And I like the idea of a LCD screen in the SB Touch which is always on. You can look at each moment to see what's playing without waking up a remote control. And that is something I can't with my Pronto. And probably also not with an iPhone/Pod. But I think there would be a market for touch screen remote solution if it responds fast. Just take the touch screen from the SB Touch, put it in a flat and small case and there is a touch screen controller... But on the other hand the tablet pc are coming. Who knows what's possible then . . . -- Bert0123 Bert0123's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18574 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64706 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

How about different international power standards? need for isolation of data signal from mains? While powerline Ethernet works great when it works, it doesn't work in many cases, sometimes even in the same house. Re: [slim] New "Logitech MM STREAM Squeezebox Touch" spotted !!
This probably will look nice sitting on a table or counter somewhere, but it will only be as good as the back end and infrastructure supporting it. Hopefully for as much as what is going into the user interface of these devices, one would hope the same goes into the other pieces. I believe the new device will have the ability to attract some new customers, but the bigger bang for the buck for me would be to introduce something that would allow users to more easily setup and configure their system. On top of that, it would go along way if a "device" could be provided that would allow the customer to implement the system without having to source their own server for Squeeze Center. Some little device that runs Squeeze Center and allows you to expand storage when needed. In other words more turn key. What about a server with it's own Wifi router and software to allow easy configuring of squeeze devices with it. Again, aimed at the less technical customer providing more of a turn key solution. For others, they might go the build it themselves approach. Why not offer options like mains / power network adapters branded as Logitec bundeled as part of the package. Beter yet, could also have these part of the product just plug in and away you go. The only issue you have then is the controller but at least that can definatly minimze potential issues. -- froth froth's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11878 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64706 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Sike;452400 Wrote: > My thoughts exactly. They should of squeezed an extra inch in.. I agree. It looks like a digital picture frame from a few years ago. I think it needs to be smaller, or have a bigger screen, even if it's a bit more expensive. The Classic looks good on a shelf, this looks cheap. I like the idea of a touch interface, I'm sure it will make using the SB much easier eventually, but I think I'll try and hold off until there is a better version. I'm using iPeng at the moment and it's a big jump in usability for me from the IR remote. But my wife doesn't find it intuitive to search for music, while she has no problem using an ipod. In fact she hardly listens to music now because she finds it too complicated to use. Has anyone worked out what the USB host and SD card slots are for yet? Or are they for future use? I have a horrible feeling that they are just going to be used to load photos to use the Touch as a picture frame. As I suggested in my blog - IFA in Berlin is next week (4-9 September). I'd be very suprised if it is not announced there - and it would be a better announcement if they said it was shipping. The fact that an order has shipped shows that the device is in warehouses. Revo are sure to be hyping their new touchscreen radio at the same event (press release earlier this week) - Logitech could try to trump it by saying that theirs is shipping (albeit with smaller screen and without the regular radio and iPod dock of the more expensive Revo model). http://dabdig.blogspot.com/2009/08/revo-ikon-more-promise-than-your.html -- Paul Webster Paul Webster http://www.lastfm.com/user/BondJamesBond Paul Webster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=105 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64706 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
