Re: [slim] SB3 Cutting Out While Playing Apple Lossless Files
I went back into iTunes today to switch its default CD import format to FLAC - and of course it doesn't support importing into this format. What are my options - stop using iTunes? Or will one of the other iTunes-supported lossless formats work? (What are they - only AIFF? Will this work?) If not iTunes, what other programs will organise a CD collection with database lookup and cover art? As ever, all advice gratefully received. -- BrynClarke BrynClarke's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15429 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41733 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Trying to do transcoding (particularly double transcoding) on a NAS unit is asking a lot of the hardware. Switch everything to FLAC as suggested and you should see a big improvement. -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41733 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SB3 Cutting Out While Playing Apple Lossless Files
Your problem may be the TS109. Playing Apple lossless will mean either 1. the TS109 will the decode Apple lossless and re-encode back into Flac. or 2. TS109 decodes Apples lossles to WAV and transmit this over Wifi which is a high bandwidth user. Try using using Flac and not apple lossless as decoding will be done in SB. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41733 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SB3 Cutting Out While Playing Apple Lossless Files
I bought my first SB3 a couple days ago, having purchased a QNAP TS109 with a couple of 500mb discs a couple months ago, and having started to rip my CD collection to Apple lossless format, looking forward to having good sound in my living room via SB3 and 802.11g, (the QNAP being 2 floors above though the wifi signal strength is excellent). First test on an MP3 file was fine, so I sat down to "Turangalila-Symphony" in Apple lossless format. It is unusable!!! "Rebuffering" dropouts every few seconds. This is really poor - spend £600-odd and it's unlistenable. nowhere is there any literature saying "beware, your wifi may not support this". What options are there to fix this? Are there other lossless formats which don't have the problem, or do I now need a new router? Ethernet to SB3 is not an option for me - I bought an SB3 because I need wireless. -- BrynClarke BrynClarke's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15429 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41733 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SB3 Cutting Out While Playing Apple Lossless Files
My SlimServer is on a MINI that sits in a closet with an external 500GB drive (for now, anyway). No kbd/monitor/mouse connected... just power and CAT5. It's been on continuously and running for 14 months now. Re: [slim] SB3 Cutting Out While Playing Apple Lossless Files
Eric - I believe you are correct in that the problem lies in the WiFi connection between the Mac and the router. The problems has gone away, at least for now, and I can now once again play lossless files. I am watching the "Network monitor" as I play lossless files, and can clearly see when the player is buffering the music. The graphs goes from nearly idle to maxed out. I think that something was interfering with the network speed for a few days, causing the buffering to fail to keep up. Longer term, the Mac will be tethered to the router via Cat 5, but not until I get everything moved from the the PC (Windows XP) to the Mac. The reason for moving to the Mac is I am so tired of having PC problems, so I was freaking out when the Mac was having problems. So far, I love this little dynamo! -- John151 John151's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13618 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41733 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SB3 Cutting Out While Playing Apple Lossless Files
John, is there any way you can connect the MINI via Ethernet instead of Wireless? I think that'll make all the difference. There's a LOT of headroom required for lossless files, and depending on the 802.11x format you're using, you could be pushing the limit! I have my MINI running wired into my router and distributed wireless after that... NO PROBLEM with any file type. -- Eric Seaberg Eric Seaberg - San Diego [EMAIL PROTECTED] Eric Seaberg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7896 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41733 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

The player is displaying "NOW PLAYING (REBUFFERING 0%). Does this indicate the source of the problem? Are there any parameters that I can tweak to solve the problem? Or, is the issue with my network? Anyone? -- John151 John151's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13618 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41733 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
