Re: [slim] Using iMac as a music client and living with iTunes?
OK .. answered the first part of my question myself by searching these forums.! Installed squeezeplay beta on my iMac and it connects to my squeezecenter and synchronises with the other devices I have. Great! So my question now revolves around the best method of setting up a separate itunes library on my iMac to 'feed' my iphone (and keep a backup of all my music) - I'm guessing there are other threads on this so I will continue to search. The ideal situation would be... - I keep maintaining my music on my WHS server; - This music folder on the WHS is somehow synchronised with my iMac and itunes picks up any changes to the folder - iTunes is used only for the iphone and when I want to listen to music exclusively on my iMac. Too much to ask for? Re: [slim] Using iMac as a music client and living with iTunes?
Thanks David I'll search on the following topics 1. iTunes 9 and folder monitoring 2. Synchronising files between windows home server and iMac OSX10.6 (if I can't get iTunes to do this) 3. iTunes 9 'self-managing' (to avoid me having to add every new folder of music manually) . It would be great if iTunes could monitor the folder on the windows home server and reflect any changes in the iTunes library which will be held on the iMac (i'd have to go wired while it build the library given the amount of data). I'd back up my mp3s differently (have RAID on the home server) Will post progress here. Any further advice appreciated (pretty new to this iMac and iTunes thing but have had squeezecenter and mp3tag working well for years) Regards Ian -- ianof ianof's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9505 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68007 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

There are various options, depending on where you are initiating the synchronisation from. On Windows, SyncToy is a fairly decent option. Don't know if this'll still work from WHS. As you say, search is your best option. But, why sync? There is an option to stop iTunes messing with your music files, and let it just read the metadata. Have you tried iTunes 9? I believe it can now monitor folders. -- david_f1976 Living Room: SB3 - Musical Fidelity X-DAC V3 - Marantz PM-66SE -- Tannoy Profile 631SE Bedroom: Boom Dave www.last.fm/user/david_f1976 david_f1976's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15354 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68007 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
