Re: [slim] Western Digital My Cloud
Sorry for the late replies. I never did try to put LMS on the My Cloud. I planned on it, but seemed to read there's a few other things you have to do. I'm not PC savvy at all, so I like to keep it as simple as I can. I had to replace the PC I was using as a music server, so I just bought a refurbed Dell desktop with W7 and a huge HDD disc and will only have 3 programs on it, LMS, dB Poweramp, and dB Batch convertor. The My Cloud will be just a back up and a remote way to access my media. Re: [slim] Western Digital My Cloud
Hi Yesfan70. I'm using my WD My Cloud for storing my music database, but I still run LMS on my computer. I have managed to play FLAC files over my local wi-Fi network at home using a number of apps on my iPhone, but I have not managed to play any FLAC files over the 3G network. I can play MP3 files using the WD My Cloud app. But this app only supports MP3 files. From reading your post do I take it that you managed to play FLAC on your Galaxy over 3G? I have an unlimited Internet package with THREE my mobile provider. norderney's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100648 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Western Digital My Cloud
For anyone thinking about running LMS on a NAS you can't go wrong with a decent QNAP. There is a simple installer and they just work! Re: [slim] Western Digital My Cloud
Thanks for your reply. I have a few questions. Hope you don't mind 1. Do you run LMS on the My Cloud drive or on your computer? I understand you can do either? 2. How do you backup your music database on the My Cloud drive? I currently have 3 x USB2 WD My Book drives which I use for backing up. I have the SyncBackSE app on my PC which only backs up changes I have made to the music database, ie new albums added. It does not back up items that are unchanged. 3. Was it quite easy to setup? 4. Is ripping CDs and changing tagging still a simple process? I use EAC for ripping CDs and TagRename for making amendments to my FLAC files. 5. Good news that it will play FLAC files on your phone, but a shame it can't see them as albums. Re: [slim] Western Digital My Cloud
1. Yes, can do either or both, some run multiple instances of LMS on several different platforms. Running LMS on two different computers can be a good troubleshooting tool (if/when needed). 4. EAC is fine. toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100648 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Western Digital My Cloud
I decided to get a WD My Cloud NAS drive today. I've got it connected to my network. I'm planning to continue running LMS on my PC and just have the music database on the My Cloud drive. How do I configure LMS to see the My Cloyd NAS? When I go into My Computer, the NAS appears as drive Y. But when I go into LMS Server Settings and try and browse the folders LMS does not see drive Y. Any ideas? Re: [slim] Western Digital My Cloud
You may need to make that Y a -permanent- drive letter mapping. How you do so depends on which OS you are using: http://www.it.cornell.edu/services/guides/computer/howto/map_win7.cfm Or, it could be as easy as restarting LMS. I think I'd make the map permanent anyway assuming it's not. Re: [slim] Western Digital My Cloud
norderney wrote: I've just been looking at Western Digital web site and see that they have a product called My Cloud which is esentially a 4Tb HDD which you connect via your router. I was wondering if anybody has been using this for storing their Music for playing on their SqueezeBox? As it appears to connect to your network via an ethernet cable to your router, can it be easily configured to connectto my Transporter? Looks quite an interesting product. They also have Smart Phone apps so that you can access your music, photos and files when you are away from home. But I doubt if their Apps will handle FLAC files. Here is a link http://store.westerndigital.com/store/wdeu/en_GB/pd/ThemeID.22586100/productID.292505700/parid.56797200/catid.56884200/categoryID.66911000 I have the 4TB My Cloud and the app is on my Galaxy S3. I can play flac files remotely, but I got a warning of going over my data limits. On my Wifi netowrk, I have no problems streaming flac file to my phone. The music player app on my phone also see the My Cloud as a nearby device, so I can stream music that way too. The bad thing is it lumps all the songs as if they are in one folder, instead of each album being it's own folder.
