Cool. Didn't know that about Foobar. I'll check it out. Thanks.

I use foobar 2000. It has an ipod plug in which seems to work perfectly
in converting to mp3 on the fly and works for me both with the ipod and
the ipod nano.

Running a script nightly is automated to me.

Re: [slim] FLAC to MP3 player on the fly -- no sound

2007-02-04 Thread ifoster

My problem was that I wasn't starting the stream for the remote player.
The right half of the SlimServer browser screen is titled "SqueezeBox
Music Player" however I never noticed the little pulldown menu in the
top right that allows you to select WHICH player. It was defaulting to
my local SqeezeBox however when I changed it to show my MP3 player the
playlist was empty. A soon as I added songs, presto! -- it worked.

It was a little counterintuitive to have a window titled "SqueezeBox"
control my non-SqueezeBox player.

Re: [slim] FLAC to MP3 player on the fly -- no sound

2007-02-03 Thread ifoster

I reverted to 6.5.0 (completely removed 6.5.1 first) and had to leave
the computer running all night to scan my library. Finally I
reinstalled LAME (from a different D/L location) in the /server/bin
directory. Unfortunately I still get nothing out of my remote MP3
player -- it connects but there's no sound.

I have the same problem with SlimServer 6.5.1. Try going back to 6.5.0.
That solved the problem for me.

If you're happy running perl scripts (no GUI I'm afraid) you might like
to try flac2mp3:

http://projects.robinbowes.com/flac2mp3

Using it is as simple as:

flac2mp3.pl flacdir mp3dir

It scans the flacdir and converts all flac files to mp3 and puts them in
mp3dir, replicating the directory structure and converting vorbis
comments to ID3 tags.

What’s the best program for windows to convert Flac to MP3?
Mark,
I don't know about "best" but I use the following script:
http://robinbowes.com/filemgmt/viewcat.php?cid=4
As of writing, v0.2.1 is the latest.
I've not got round to getting it working on Windows yet (tested and used
on Linux).

I use foobar2000 for that purpose and like it alot. Configuring it
the first time around can be a bit of a chore.
