I have to say I find the descriptions of your problem to be very hard to follow. Can you give some detail about what you mean when you say your Squeezebox has stopped working. It would seem that the display lights up and the unit accepts input from the remote, right? Nevermind that the IP-address changes, that's a red herring, but the fact that you get an IP-address in the right range automatically indicates that quite a lot is healthy. Did you ever verify that the server was actually running on your PC? If you launch a web browser on the PC you should normally be able to open the web interface by going to http://127.0.0.1:9000 alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109713 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Squeezebox suddenly stopped working help please
There does seem to be something amiss with your server, looking at the output from the web interface, but I doubt it's the cause of this problem. You say you use ethernet, but do you have a cable connected straight to the router or do you use some kind of powerline ethernet plugs? These can become a bit unreliable. Also, do you use any kind of firewall or anti-malware software on the PC? Reserving an IP address for the PC will ensure that it will always get the same IP address, it shouldn't affect this issue, but I admit it's a bit strange that the PC gets different addresses. Often the router will assign the same address on the next boot. alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109713 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

You shouldn't have to change anything, I'd even advice against it, just set it to automatically get IP through DCHP and then never touch it. With a few exceptions, setting IP addresses manually gives no major benefits and has a tendency to cause a lot of weird problems. Another thing, I believe you said that you changed from wireless to ethernet, did you change the configuration in the Squeezebox to use the wired connection instead of the wireless? alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109713 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If disabling the firewall or antimalware software doesn't help, next I'd look at those. It's a bit of a reach since the Squeezebox get an IP address from the router, but still worth investigating. Just as an experiment, bring the Squeezebox to the same room as the router and use just the ethernet cable between the two. You'll see on the display if it connects to the server. Most likely the power supply, voltage shouldn't drop that much when connected. Re: [slim] SB3 rebooting after playing a few tracks
Two common faults that can give those symptoms are the external power supply and the WiFi board. Since you have a spare SB3, have you tried with the power supply from that one? Next would be to open the unit and remove the WiFi board and test it using ethernet cable? Both power supply and WiFi board should be possible to source on eBay e.g. If none of that helps, there are capacitors in the internal power supply that could be past it. There are some threads in the forums about replacing those, but start with the simple things. alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110531 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] creating a current playing display
I tried a different take on this, casting the web interface, in this case the Now Playing of the Material skin, to the Google Nest Hub. The word to note here is the "casting" bit, my home automation controller (Homey) allows me to cast a web page to a specific Chromecast player, but I'm sure there are software available to be run on our servers that can achieve the same thing. The key is that it's the server that initiates this instead of you pointing your display to a specific source. In many cases I think this can be beneficial, perhaps the community can come up with more ideas based on this. One thing to remember is that this particular setup can not be both controller and player. I can use the castbridge plugin to play on the device, but that stream will replace the stream with the control interface and vice versa. Perhaps this could be solved if it was integrated in the same plugin, but as the sound from this device is far from exciting, I don't care. Anyway, I got a tidy interface on my device with minimal tinkering. 27887 +---+ |Filename: hub_control.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=27887| +---+ alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110757 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Plans if Logitech pulls the plug ?
chopinhauer wrote: > But if Logitech pulls the plug surely at least my current set up will > still work. Correct? Correct, up to a point. It won't halt the minute Logitech shuts down the servers, but it may still affect you in a longer run. Considering that the Squeezeboxes were always a bit of a niche product, and how long it was since it was dropped, there is still a pretty robust ecosystem and user base. It's obviously not on an upward trajectory, but there are some heroes that manage to keep it relevant with new adaptations and additions in reaction to how use patterns and delivery methods change. If servers were shut down and this forum closed the natural hubs that some of this work depend upon are lost. Fully replacing them will not be trivial if at all possible and that could, in a pessimistic scenario, lead to the end of support and development. For a user that only use a local music library and a handful of plugins it would not immediately change anything, but you could experience a gradual loss of functions. If you need to migrate your server to a more recent operating system, LMS may not fully operate on that without updates, new network security protocols may block crucial resources for LMS or plugins etc. It is very much a community effort today, but the community is helped by the resources Logitech supplies. Sounds like doom and gloom, but what I'm saying is that life with LMS will be easier for all of us as long as it is a maintained product. It could very well go on for years without Logitech sponsorship, but I don't think a transition would be without major hassles, resources scattered and some developers losing interest. alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111525 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Sorry for being vague, shouldn't have formulated a question before my first cup of coffee. I was thinking of the model of the memory device. But from your answer I can deduce roughly what kind of Flash it is. Flash of that generation usually have pretty much no data retention problems, but heat can accelerate the process so maybe using a hotplate for soldering could potentially be an issue. Never had a problem with data loss in normal circumstances, some 15 years ago I came across a few memories where single bits had been flipped, but that was on outdoor equipment where we suspected lightning could have been involved. alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=117140 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] New approach to dead Boom / SB3 (Classic) / Transporter
Too lazy to dig up the datasheets for those memories but I suspect they are rated at 10,000 or even 100,000 erase cycles. I feel it is unlikely wear should be an issue when used in this application. Since the erase operation is rather slow, sometimes you don't erase and overwrite when using this kind of device to store small data structures such as player settings, instead you invalidate one setting entry and then append a new. This way you normally don't waste an erase cycle each time you change a setting. Just speculating, have no idea if any of this is how it's done in the SB. And for more speculation. Perhaps some power glitch could be derailing the state machines inside the Flash that perform the low level erase/write operations, leaving stuff half erased/written? Especially since the failures were triggered when playback was about to start. Now, given that this happened after you had replaced a bunch of capacitors that were past their prime the voltages should be cleaner than before, there's a lot to contradict this theory, but maybe it's still worth looking for ripple or spikes on the voltages. Anecdotally, I've seen some weird issues in some consumer electronics when I replaced electrolytic caps of questionable pedigree with the best stuff I could get my hands on, seems like the design was tuned for the low budget components. alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=117140 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
