My experience has been just the opposite. I have never been able to

[discuss] download

2007-07-24 Thread Pete C. Hamre

Hi,

I found the whole download process a little confusing. On the main
download page, the straight download link is in a green box with no line
through it, while the other 2 options are in a blue box with an
underlined link. The green download box looks like its a header or title
for the following 2 options. I thought the only way for me to download
it was to order a cd or get it through a P2P.

This and any other problem should be addressed to the
users@openoffice.org mailing list.

It probably hasn't been corrupted by a virus. The error means that the
copy you are downloading has become corrupt (damaged) during the
download, noisy telephone lines, power fluctuations, or a dozen other
causes exist. I recommend dumping the copy you have been getting and
starting again.

I would also recommend you use a download manager that will restart from
a point before where the error occurred. They even allow you to start a
download, stop, then finish the download on another day.

http://download.openoffice.org/
Download managers are listed halfway down the page.

An additional suggestion on top of Michael's is to make sure you have your
virus scanner turned off for the download and install. Virus scanners
detect changes to files which may be false viruses. If you are downloading
OOo from the home webpage or one of the mirror sites, it is unlikely to be
any viruses in the files.

I guess that you are using a dial up connection, the best way to get OOo
if you cant get the program to install is to buy a copy of OOo from your
national distributor. They are small price, they are secure and also they
might give you more goodies like extra templates, documentation etc.

Perhaps a download manager is what your after. Have a look at the

It's nice. :-)

At the moment we are using a page that requests monetary donations only,
and I think we ought to privilege that for regular downloaders, my
reasoning being that these people may just not read to the end of the
options and impatiently click the "continue download" button.

Thus, a solution would be just to have it a line above the others.
