When someone creates a product or simply wants to promote it, getting as many people to go there is a common goal. Actually, it is a stepping stone to the ultimate goal of getting the person to act, whether that action is to buy something, learn something, download something, or whatever. The benefit is to get more hits, which turn into more actions, downloads, purchases, whatever. Was it a dodgy move for Microsoft to register microsoftoffice.com? I mean, they already own one domain name - and office.microsoft.com is the same page as microsoftoffice.com - so they don't really need microsoftoffice.com. They don't really need Windows.com either, I suppose. What about Apple? Does Apple really need to own itunes.com and ipod.comwhen they have apple.com/itunes and apple.com/ipod? I can understand you not liking the ads about OOo being, well, you know... But I don't get why the domain name bothers you. It's an interesting idea, but I only see a link to a Windows version. If you can point to a binary for linux or OS X, then I'd take a look. The latter is on our longer-range timetable, though. Writing really good filters is a huge amount of work. That's why we prioritized .doc, .odt and .sxw.
