You might want to try checking for it on Octopart. If you can find a part number for it, punch that into Octopart and see what comes up. Not local, but it should find you a source. Re: [SH-Discuss] cast iron repair
Kent quick weld service could probably handle the welding but it would cost you some bucks. The other option might be taking a close look into a Loctite product. They have adhesives which when applied correctly, any failure will occur beyond the glued joint at the parent metal. And if you are able to install a few strategically located steel dowel pins, you may be able to minimize stress at the joint making a glued joint more practical. Take Care & Have fun Always. Re: [SH-Discuss] Discuss Digest, Vol 30, Issue 58
Steve, Thanks for the reply and information. I have a short list of Akron area welding shops, with phone numbers. I plan on making calls on Thursday and Friday, hoping to find an experienced welder to do the repair. Wish me luck! If all else fails, I will give Devin a shot at doing the repair. He says he has other cast iron welding projects to complete before he would be willing to attempt the repair I need to fix the mixer. Re: [SH-Discuss] cast iron repair
Devin, Thanks for your prompt reply. Welding the broken pieces will be Plan B. You can have a shot at it, if I must get it welded. Success will earn you a steak dinner (or whatever your brain demands as food). Failure will require re-education and discipline in the form of 20 lashes out in the parking lot. I have contacted the manufacturer (Thunderbird) and inquired about buying a new, or used, or second grade blank housing to use in the refurb/repair project. Would much rather use a whole, undamaged housing instead of one repaired with a weld or glue. When I get a reply from the CSR at T'bird, I will let you know the status of the project. I would like to move the item to SH at the Summit St address to work on it. When can I do that? Philip ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@synhak.org https://synhak.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[SH-Discuss] cast iron repair
*Does anybody know how to repair broken cast iron?* Can cast iron be welded? Can cast iron be repaired with an adhesive? Details = I recently acquired a broken Thunderbird 20-qt commercial dough maker/mixer. It is a table top appliance that is used in a commercial bakery to make dough or mix large batches of bread dough or cake/cookie/pie dough. [image: Inline image 1] The previous owner, a Certified Level 3 Moron, dropped the 225 lb unit off a work table when he was trying to move it to another location by himself. The top part of the mixer broke off. I cut the internal wiring to enable me to move the unit in two large pieces to my storage unit in hopes of eventually repairing the mixer. [image: Inline image 2] [image: Inline image 3] If anybody at SH can help me with this repair project, I will be happy to *fully reimburse them for all expendables* used in the repair. I will also thank the person who helps me with the repair with *a full-course dinner, as a token reward,* at Macaroni Grill or Outback Steakhouse or House of Hunan. The repair project - cast iron repair and rewiring - will be done at SH as one of my personal DIY projects. When repaired and functional again, I plan to donate the mixer to a local non-profit organization that provides monthly meals to the needy families and homeless people. In case you are wondering, the value of a similar, used, working mixer is about $1250. A new one costs $1925 plus about $175 for freight shipping, a total of $2100. Thanks in advance for any help available, whether just technical advice or welding expertise or merely a suggestion.
