[SH-Discuss] Electric Work Status

2014-02-23 Thread Chris Egeland
Hi everyone,

If you come to the space tomorrow, you may notice some half-finished work
on the electrical installation going on in the back half of the space.

Andy installed conduit from the breaker panel to the post that has the
hexagonal table. I installed 2 outlets in the box above, and 4 outlets in
the box below. At this time, that circuit is not energized. The wire is
run into the load center, but is taped off and NOT hooked up to anything.
If you open the electrical panel and notice that there is a spare set of
wires coming in, DO NOT HOOK THEM UP YET.

Please do not touch the stuff on the electrical panel or the two boxes that
haven't been finished. I'll complete those tomorrow (Monday) night. I ran
out of steam and couldn't continue any further.

Andy, I think our definitions of the word "easy" slightly differ.

I too, should be down to the space approximately 6PM to continue working on
electrical.

2014-02-23 Thread Andrew Buczko
Mike, what exactly do you mean when you say "Drinking the Coolaid" I hope
you are not referencing what I think you are referencing.

Hmm, we should try some coffee mugs to see just how good and how many we
can form, using the plastic that we have.

as for getting food safe plastic, better order it over night if you want it
in time for opening day.
I think that making our own "SynHak We Make Akron" cups would be fun!

OK - I will bring the box of pots and pans to SH on Monday evening.

They are being donated to SH as an organization for use by all members and
non-members as shared kitchen equipment.

They are not meant to be items available to members/non-members to take
home or to use exclusively at SH.

The intent is to donate kitchen equipment available to all, regardless of
organizational status. Non-humans and homeless bums are excluded from the
list of users.

The large pan that is no longer suitable for human food may be
laser-engraved with a scary warning label, if I have the time to do it.

DW

I will take the 4.19pm or 4.36pm or the 4.53pm #1bus from west Akron to
downtown tomorrow and get off in front of the Main Library. Will check out
the books and/or the librarians while I wait for confirmation of your
arrival.

Please call me or email me when you arrive at SH and I will walk up to the
building from the library.

Tomorrow is "orange" night in the rear bathroom! Whatever needs to be
orange will be painted.

The slide bolt will be installed on the door to the rear bathroom.

Plus, stars and constellations will be adhered to the night sky in the
front bathroom.

Also, a color print of N. Tesla will be hung.

[SH-Discuss] stuff for kitchen

2014-02-23 Thread Philip P. Patnode
SH cooks, bakers and sandwich makers -

Just finished updating the kitchen at my secret underground man cave and
have a box of pots and pans available for donation. All are used, but in
good condition.

One large pan is not good for food prep but could be used as a utility
mixing bowl or to heat up wax or as a small pond for some goldfish.

Available = several frying pans, some sauce pans, and a few larger cooking
pans.

All are aluminum, Teflon-coated, with glossy black trim. Most have a clear
glass lid.

Somebody who will be using the kitchen should consider this offer to donate
stuff and make a decision before Tuesday at noon.

If SH does not want the pots and pans, I will donate them to Salvation Army.

When will the building be open on Monday?

I have at least *six hours of work* remaining on the two bathrooms.

If I can get in to SH, I can finish all my work in one work period.

I am available to come to SH tomorrow anytime after 12 noon and I can work
until 10.45pm.

Hopefully, somebody with a key will reply and let me know when to show up.

If a new sink, base cabinet, and faucet for the front bathroom suddenly
appear on the premises, I will come to SH early on Tuesday afternoon and
get all installed before the 7pm meeting.

Re: [SH-Discuss] Budget reimbursement plans

2014-02-23 Thread Philip P. Patnode
FYI

On my initiative, I have purchased a few items needed for the two bathrooms
at SH, including some hardware purchased at Home Depot.

The list includes two wastebaskets, a slide bolt, a door clothes hanger,
decorative wood blocks for the toilet paper holders, a hand soap pump, a
bag of adhesive glow in the dark stars, a special effect paint roller, and
a color print and frame.

All the receipts have either been submitted to SH or saved for my records.

I hope that I did not cross some imaginary line in the dust by acting on my
own, without formal approval or permission from a member.

I DO NOT expect to be reimbursed.

My money, my time, my donation.

[SH-Discuss] vacuum former question-OPENING DAY related

2014-02-23 Thread Michael Griesacker
-hello,
1) is our vacuum former using food-grade plastic?
2) has anyone made forms for cups yet?
3) is anyone interested in showcasing our infrastructure capability by
making SynHak logo cups for "Drinking the Coolaid" on opening day/ or other
sponsored event? I'm thinking about 4oz size to facilitate punch,
adequately carry our logo or web address, and small enough to serve as a
novelty/keepsake/trinket
-so bigger than shotglass, but not by a lot.

thoughts? -and a cost analysis would be appropriate, I don't remember how
much sheets cost

Best Regards

Mike G

A key would be the easiest way to open the space, I think.

I'll be there at 6 PM :)

I think explaining the protocol and explicitly stating that "If you don't get
it pre-approved, it is 100% at your own risk" would:

* Permit small purchases of things that we need without bureaucracy
* Remove any right to complain if you didn't get it approved and thought a
verbal agreement was safe

Right, I had that in mind while coming up with my protocol draft. There was no
written agreement, just a verbal one. We totally should've known that without
having it in writing, we had a chance to be 100% liable for any expenses. If
that had been brought up, I'm confident that we would've made a more concerted
effort to get that in writing.

If someone gets screwed out of some cash, we can point back to this and say
"If you absolutely needed reimbursed, you should've gotten it pre-approved."
The treasurer will be sure to inform anyone of this protocol if they come to
them and think a verbal agreement is "good enough".

On a related note, I'm going to be drafting a form for this protocol and print
out a bunch to keep by the front desk along with a better wiki page.

I really need to start documenting what I'm doing on the wiki...

Re: [SH-Discuss] Budget reimbursement plans

2014-02-23 Thread a l
Greetings,

I like that you've outlined the reimbursement protocol, but not requiring
pre-approval is going to cause issues. Likely sooner rather than later.

I don't have all the facts regarding February's build budget, so feel free
to correct me if I'm missing something. I appreciate that there was no
written agreement but it seems what you're doing is the same game that we
dealt with at the last space and getting electrical installed. I'm sure you
remember the frustration we all had with that situation. Verbal agreements
are binding. So I'm not sure how it's "fair to everyone" when one person
is getting screwed out of $150.

Everyone needs to remember to save their receipts.

regards,
Andrew L
