[SH-Discuss] SynHak Renovations Fundraiser

2014-01-22 Thread Andrew Buczko
Would it be possible to do a fundraiser to help with SynHak's renovation
expenses?

I asked like two members about the idea and they seemed to like it. One
suggested a Silent Auction.

If you have a suggestion for a fundraiser please post it in a reply to this
email (for now) and then we can go over the suggestions at the next meeting.

Plus this would be another opportunity to bring new faces to the space.

What would we sell at the silent auction?

We would need to partner with nearby businesses to donate items for
auction, Walk-a-thon.

Oh my gosh you should do something similar to junk yard wars. That would
 be a riot.

For all who have never seen the show, two teams (you can do many more)
were let loose in a junkyard with an objective. Some sort of obstacle
course awaited them and they had to build a machine to complete that
 course.

2014-01-22 Thread nyoungkin
I don't have any metals pieces to donate right now, but I am more than willing
to make some jewelry pieces to donate! I'll need to be able to set up my
chemical picke to clean the metal before I solder it, but once I'm able to do
that I can start working on pieces. (I haven't been to the new space yet, so I
don't know how soon I would be able to start working there. I just need an
outlet for a small crockpot and the butane torch...ideally the drillpress as
well, but if that won't be ready for a while I can work around that.) I realize
that it was mentioned to happen a few months down the road, so there isn't an
immediate rush. I'm just excited to make things!

As a somewhat related note, I have been considering buying myself more sterling
silver to work with, which would increase the potential value of any donated
jewelry. I order from Riogande.com, but shipping can be expensive. If anyone
else wants to work on small jewelry/metalwork and needs materials, let me know
and we can organize a combined order and split shipping! (I can also advise on
materials if anyone has questions.) ...should I also send that note as its own
topic to try to increase the number of people who see it and to prevent this
from going off topic? (Or I can just bring it up at the next meeting. I wasn't
able to attend the last one.)
